I think these tips weren't posted here so I'll jus share them out with you... :)

1. If you get tied up by the Scorpions primary fire you can always enter a vehicle and that will take the damage instead. You can patch it up with the Link Gun afterwards. ;).

2. Bind the ThrowGun (or w/e) command to some key (i have mine set to the middle mouse button) If your gun's ammo is below the amount you get from a weapon base you can just chuck your gun away and get a fresh new one. :)

3. The link gun is useful for distracting campers (like in LavaGiant-Classic). Jus spray and see the results!

That flip is called a dodge: practically, it's a jump in the sideway direction. Seen from behind, it makes some characters make flips or cartwheels, but you won't notice it from first person view. Dodging is very common in UT2004...it's something you really need to master to become good in this game.

I made a list of the different moves on this page; I hope it helps :)

I would really suggest that you read Taleweaver's guide and then practice, learn, and master the various movements. The are one of the primary things that separate adequet players from very good players.

If, after reading the guide, you're still not sure on how to do some of the movements, looks one of us up online and just ask. There's many people here that would be happy to help you.

The "flip" is just an animation of the double jump. Some characters have it as their animation, some don't.

If you use one of the characters that have the flip as their double jump animation and you execute a double jump, other players will see it as a flip. You, however, will not. You cannot see yourself do the flip in first person view.

Again, the "flip" is simply a character specific animation, and has no advantage over any other double jump.

Hope this helps.

Finally got around to write out my next guide: discussion issues. For those of us who haven't followed Boogity's thread on
Acceleration: it discusses those parts of the game that might help you play better, yet come at a price of uncomfortableness (eg. key and mouse setup) or just a less fun game (eg. forcing player skins).
I hope I'm doing a better job in explaining the pros and cons of the situation instead of just pointing out the 1337 settings that racks up the victories.
Happy reading :)

PS: I still only see one kind of "comfortable with" ;)

Wow, great thread. Some really nice tips in here.

I have one to add. I call it "Avril Jumping".

What is Avril Jumping?

Avril jumping is a method for Onslaught infantry players to move very quickly on-foot at the expense of Avril ammo. It makes use of the kickback mechanism to move faster.

How is an Avril Jump performed?

Avril jumping itself is not difficult to learn, but it is difficult to master. The easiest way to do it is by the following:

1) Double-Tap [Backwards]
2) Press [Jump] immediately afterwards
3) [Fire] the Avril while in the air

What do you do when the Avril is reloading?

Depending on your skill, you can either do an angled backwards double-jump (ie, hold down [backwards] and double-tap
or
while moving your mouse to go as straight as possible) or turn around and do a forward double jump. In my experience, continuing to move backards has been most efficient, however it is not easy to continue to perform backwards double jumps.

What are the pros and cons to Avril Jumping?

Pros:
It allows fast infantry movement in Onslaught.

Cons:
It uses up Avril ammo.
You are blind because you are moving backwards to get to a location.
You give away your position.
It is difficult to perform for beginners.

When should an Avril Jump be performed?

In my experience, I've found that the best times to perform an Avril jump are either at the very beginning of the match when players are trying to get to vehicles quickly, or if you are pinned down in your base and are trying to get to a few of the initial nodes. I do not recommend Avril jumping out in the middle of the field because it becomes too dangerous.

Has anyone figured out how to bind keys to the two side/thumb buttons on a Wireless Intelimouse Explorer 2.0? Pressing them while in the "Input" screen of "Settings" has no affect and I have no clue what to add to my User.ini to make them work in the game. The mouse is great except for this problem.
I have the solution.

First, let it be known that wireless mice are not ideal for gaming, to those thinking of buying them. There response isn't as fast, they use batteries that cost you more money and are toxic to the envirnonment, and are heavier reducing 'snap' aim accuracies. So, gaming-wise, pocketbook wise, and environmentally, wireless mice are not the way to go.

I have the wired version of your mouse, and was disappointed when updating to version 5+ of it's intellipoint software. For some reason, they dropped program specific binds of the buttons, most importantly, the side buttons that many games don't otherwise accept input from.

The solution is to download Intellipoint 4.12 (it works fine in XP and 2000, so if the text above the download button has you worried, look under the supported operating systems at the bottom of the page), then uninstall IP5+ and then install IP4.12. Then, open start>settings>control panel> mouse and then check "enable program specific button settings". Then click the settings button to the right of that to open up a new window and click the Add button. Search for UT2004.exe (likely in C:\UT2004\System) and select it. Then highlight it on the list click the left or right side button box, scroll down in it and click "keystroke..." and enter whatever key you'd like to be "pressed" whenever you hit said button. I do comma and period. Then open the game and bind the button like you would a any other mouse button. The game will indicate that the keyboard key you bound it to was pressed, and it'll work fine.

On rare occasion the custom keybinds wont work in game. In that case, I just alt-tab out of the game, open up mouse properties, settings, the higlight the game and click apply, and go back to the game.

I hope you peek at this thread via a topic reply notification email and that it helps. I realize it was quite a while ago you posted about it. If not maybe it'll help someone else.

Actually, it's more distracting if your character does it, IMO, so it throws off others' aim a bit. At least it does mine. Then again, my aim was never really good, so... Why else do you think Raffi uses a model that flips on a double jump?

Well I see a lot of people jumpin around a lot, is that something that is essential to staying alive? Because I do it, but I still die, A LOT! lol

Well...the moving/dodging/jumping isn't the essential part, but rather the ability to remain unpredictable. Jumping and especially dodging, makes you harder to hit so you won't die that much. But even that is just the basics of movement: you also need to be able to shift directions quickly if you see or hear missiles approach and never blindly get to somewhere where they might be expecting you.

If you googled for it, any UT2004 movement guide would tell you the basics. Before asking questions, remember posting questions on this forum without doing a basic google search is looked down upon by many.
