In terms of graphics, I didn't see much games lately which had ownage graphics and ownage gamepley for me.

Look at the original Unreal II, eveyone said "OMG WTF GFX!!!111" and the game was through in like 8 hrs.

Lots of people do still play CS/DoD, I don't think they play them because they have UBER-gfx.

And the UT2003 graphics dont impress me either.... I find it quite ridiculous that some(!) of the so-called(!) pro-gamers even whine so much about gfx, when they turn them down, down, down (skyboxes off etc to save fps). I've seen some funny hacks, the pro-gamer-wannabes use, and it's really really ridiculous!

Another fun image from the closure:

The guy pictured is some Atari goon who confiscated everyone's machines. As you can see the room has been cleansed of all decoration, save for the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas" poster.

That is very sad :(

I'm sorry to hear you guys got shut down. Your history extends a long time, and your presence as Legend Entertainment will be missed.

Take care guys and good luck in your new careers. May they be exciting and fun and pay well.

cheers,

Tye

Believe me, I feel horrible for the guys. The office where I was a network administrator closed up - home office sold our division to a competitor. 50 people lost their job in one day. Another 25-30 lost theirs in the next 3-6 months during transition. It's horrible - but it's a fact of life in the corporate world where decisions are largely out of our hands.

Yeah, it blows. This world needs all the development houses it can hold. And one less is not a step in the right direction. Hopefully an insightful house will see an oppurtunity to pick up these talented people. Games now-days are much like art. It's very subjective.

Peter, you're right, and I apologize.

I bet epic had something to do with it, because XMP was a CLEAR competition to ut2004 and maybe even far better too. It's no wonder epic has microsoft as a partner (or so). Evil likes evil.
Epic and microsoft are AXIS of EVIL in the gaming world!

Erm...this is what I know of about the MS deal. When the news was first announced, none of it stated that MS would publish any Unreal title after UT2k4. In fact, I heard the contrary, that Epic was happy with Atari and they were going to publish more Unreal titles. The announcement about MS was they will publish future games from Epic and Scion Studios. Unless I missed another important news announcement, I still don't see how people came up with the "fact" MS would publish the next Unreal title.

I'm not saying the plans haven't changed...only there was no official statement from either MS or Epic claiming Microsoft WILL publish the next Unreal game...only that they will publish some un-named titles.

As for the pics...that is truly sad to see. I'm still shaking my head over this decision to close down LE. The pictures show us the true pain the LE folks experienced.

I really don't see what ANYONE else sees in XMP.

Graphics are crap (huge step backwards from UT2003, even Tribes2)
Sound is crap (UT2003 is great, 1942 is awesome)
Gameplay is subpar (muddied controls, unintuitive hud)

funny thing is, I could say exactly the same thing about the game you like - Desert comabt. The only difference being DC has had the time to be patched and tweaked which has added some of the polish that XMP may be lacking, however gameplay in DC is not very good IMO. I find the game is played as a big maps with a bunch of 'toys' being the various vehicles, which people squabble over and mess around in very rarely playing towards objectives or any constructive type of play. Its fun for a while, but once you've tried all the vehicles the 'gameplay' is nothing great. I'm sure you could argue that clan players\organsied matches are so much better etc etc. But the fact is most people play on public servers which are disorganised, and quite frankly boring.

XMP is screwed because of U2's failure, and it would take a lot to change that right now even though it is a good game as I know many of you would agree. Difficult to expand the playerbase of a mod if nobody has been interested in the game its running on.

Some good comments Julian_K, I agree with a lot of what you have said.

Also good post Bazzi

Epic announced that around Fall of last year. Infogrames bought GT between UT and UT2003. Then Infogrames bought Atari and began using it as the brand name.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry too much about Microsoft as the publisher. They've published quite a few great games.
I hope your right hal. I would hate to see Microsoft give more support to Xbox, and expecially with Xbox2 coming out. And like Selerox said, What about Mac/Lunix support now?

I think Atari has the best support to community, I dont see Microsoft doing the same, I would hate to see the comunity split even more, like it did between UT and UT2003.

Our News

Scion Studios. Basically the same news letter...nothing explained.

Again, no official announcement was made to suggest any Unreal title will be published by Microsoft. It does state:

Epic Games and its recently-formed Scion Studios will develop several new games exclusively for Xbox and Windows. The to-be-announced products will be published by Microsoft Game Studios.

Epic and Scion are making new games that isn't related to Unreal, but I can see why people would automatically assume future Unreal titles will be exclusive to Microsoft Xbox and Windows. What I do know is that Epic has plans to create a new game, but it isn't related to Unreal. Who knows...but all I'm saying is no official word or confirmation has been made that Atari will not publish another Unreal title...more specifically, nothing has been mentioned that Microsoft will publish another Unreal title. In fact, there are two new games coming out that Microsoft will publish. As I was told, Atari still has Epic's trust and vice versa. Until they announce anything further, there is no truth to Microsoft *exclusively* publishing any future Unreal title.

At first Epic gotta finish Unreal Warfare, doesnt it?
And then, UT2006 is heading towards us. DUH! (Nah, ok, they can split the work between DE and the `lost` people of Legend which can join Epic/DE for a achange ;) )

First you read the thread, THEN You reply so as to avoid looking like an idiot, as you do here. If you HAD read the thread, then you would know that Epic had nothing to do with it, it was Atari's decision.

And if you're not going to read the thread, then stay out of it and don't post.
