Hey SS, I've been busy without much online presence in the last few days, so I just now noticed this effort of yours. It sounds fabulous! I was quite surprised. I'd like to keep an eye on the compatibility between UT3 Platinum and Jailbreak. Would you consider adding hooks for other mods to extend your single player tournament? For instance, just to add an additional gametype ladder to the tournament?
Haven't got to that part just yet. Obviously if I make this use a mod structure lots of other mods will break (well, as far as I know you can't enable more than one mod to work). But once I get more of it done, I can start talking to you guys to fit it in there somehow.

Are you changing the engine source code or the unreal script code? I presume the later.
Unrealscript only.

A new actual tournament campaign for UT3, yes, a lot of people would like that, my self included.
Yes, I'm planning to add a tournament mode first and then start adding in all the things we wanted earlier in the day. It'll take some time to get it all there however.

I saw this randomly and I had to register to tell you how much support this idea! I was really disappointed in UT3 because of how boring the single player was and that it wasn't a tournament like the previous games!

Keep up the good work and I hope to hear more about this soon!

Are you implementing your uWindow system into this? If you're going to (eventually) fix up multiplayer the first thing to start with would be the terrible in game menus / lack of ability to browse servers while in a match.

Yes please make this the return of uWindow2. You've already got a strong base with it from what I remember of it so I don't understand why you are looking for a UI developer :p

Cool. Welcome to BeyondUnreal. Yeah me too, when I played it, I was thinking "Jeez, what is this?". Thanks, I would have started earlier, but I never quite new what Epic had up their sleeves (aka, I didn't want to start it and then have it replaced).

Not the one I wrote for MSUC. I'm actually using the existing UIScene now that I'm a lot more comfortable with it. However, I don't use data stores and data providers at the moment. This could change at a later; but I'd much rather spend (the little) time I have on implementing fun, playable things first. I may possibly try to convert UIScene into UWindows however. I think it's possible to do.

I'm looking for someone who is willing to do the UI art. People don't like the existing one in UT3 and people didn't like the one in UT (back when I was using it for uWindow2). I don't have a lot of time to do the art, so if someone is keen to do it then that would be great.

I would rather have smart AI that acts like a good playing human than UWindows.
Yeah, I can agree with that. For now, I'd much rather make the game more fun and have more interesting things to do.

There is a lot of people who still prefer UWindows as it was in UT. There is a lot that like the 2003 menus, as well there are fans of 2004 ones. Finally, I am already used to the current UT3 menu system. Why don't you please us all by embedding all four UI systems? I know it would take longer, but at least you'd really please everyone coz any player would simply select the UI of their choice and no one would bother criticizing YOU choosing an UI over the three others, coz they would be able to change it themselves.

Best of luck with the mod anyways ;) You're doing a great job.

Wut?? if you were an programmer do you get any idea what an amount of work mean to be for doing 4 menus? Omg XDDD

By the way, I wonder if some parts could be backported to stock UT3 if this is going to break mod support, since while it would be awesome to play with smart bots, it would at the same time be not very awesome to miss all the MapMixer's features, or those of other mods'...

The primary goal for this project is to extend game play as of now. People spend vastly more time playing the game than they ever will in the menus. I'm not at all ignoring the request to have better menus but I think it is better to focus on thing that people can play with.

I suppose this is why many developers don't say anything. You can clearly state "Please do not ask for X" and in five seconds you'll have fifteen posts asking "CAN YOU ADD X" and you'll end up wasting time answering people who just can't comprehend simple statements. :p

Thanks a lot for the support! :) Weekend is coming up soon for me (I work at a day job from Wednesday to Sunday)... so I should be able to get some more done.

The game itself is pretty sadly dead, but not by any real fault of the game, but by it's lack of ease-of-use, and people's general tendency these days to hide behind team-based games and avoid DeathMatch like it'll really get them killed irl.

(oh and yeah my mistake earlier in the thread, hadn't let my brain do the loop back around to realize that UDK is totally free, and thus putting UT3 into it would thus make UT3 totally free. ..but hey let's be honest, would it cost Epic a penny in potential sales at this point? lol. They're protecting Gears, not UT3. :lol: )
