Unreal Evolution for UT3

Personally I couldn't care less how the Skaary looks. The AI is what matters.

P.S.: The AI matters, but the appearance matters even more. It has to match the style of the game/mod. Otherwise, it'll be crap. Can you imagine the Quake 2 Strogg in Quake 4? That would be terrible.

But how does respond the AI via UnrealScript instead of C++?
Isn't it slow?
I mean, I don't know much about programming AI, but if I remember, we do not have acces to the Source, so we could only use UnrealScript.

Any answer would be welcome. :rolleyes:

I like this idea/plan... don't waste time explaining yourself to the short sighted negative people who are hell bent on killing off UT3 (and any support) as quickly as they can.

I think 'unreal 1' with a decent level of graphical improvements using UE3 would be a sweet thing indeed. I started my Unreal journey with Unreal (1) and I still remember it fondly.

In the absence of an Unreal 3 or any new Unreal Tourney games on the horizon (yet) I think any mods/TCs or remakes using the UE3 engine are welcome as there are those of us who have always liked the unreal universe and it's games / engines who don't really give a damn about online player counts... esp for single player stuff of course.

Best of luck with it, a huge undertaking but this is the kind of thing that made PC gaming great in the first place.. the customising, the community.. it's something that is slowly dying (or trying to be killed off) in the name of consolisation and profit margins so real PC gaming fans should always be behind stuff like this regardless of the overall perception of the game it uses as a base.

I want to tell you something. Not all hardcore U1 fans such as myself own those games, nor have any desire to. Just because a game is unpopular doesn't mean more people won't start playing the game again.

UT3 has enough of a playerbase, and I'm pretty sure most, if not all fans of U1 and UT99 will probably buy UT3 just for this mod, thus increasing the playerbase.

How much sense does it make to make a mod based on the ORIGINAL UNREAL on an engine other than an UNREAL ENGINE game, besides UT2K4.

On a similar note, I don't want to hear about UT2K4 again. I'm sick of you people tooting your horn about how UT3 fails and UT2K4 still dominates. Just because it has a bigger playerbase doesn't make it better. I swear to you if UT3 would work on my computer, I'd have left UT2K4 a digital hobo on my drive. And before you use Unreal 1 as a counter against me, Unreal 1 has left behind a legacy. A legacy that was passed on to UT99, killed in UT2K4, and partly revived in UT3. That legacy has brought us to play constantly for 10 years and eventually improve the game engine itself. And with this mod, the legacy can be fully revived in UT3. Porting and upgrading the original game on any engine other than UE3 would be an insult. UE3 is basically begging for something like this, and it would die on any other engine. So I don't want to hear you promoting anything other than UT3 just because UT3 isn't good enough for you.

I hope I've made my point.

And now back to the blatantly ignored topic, if I knew how to use UEd4 as well as I use UEd1 and 2, I would have started making Nyleve already. Too bad I don't, so I guess I'mma have to sit this one out and just cheer from the sidelines.

Concentrate on a short term goal for now, like, Vortex Rikers layout or monsters for Invasion. It will go a lot smoother that way. And you can also write your plan here, so we could remind you that you still have some work to do ;)

Please don't tell me this project is dead. I was really looking forward to at least seeing some screenshots... however, in the case this project is NOT dead, I have good news... and bad news. The good news, my parents are going to order the new video card that I've wanted. This new video card, a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4650, will be able to run UT3. The bad news... actually, there's two bad news...s. I might not actually get the card tomorrow, AND I'll have to wait until my birthday to replace my crappy Celeron D 3.33GHz Single-core CPU with an Intel Pentium 2.5GHz Dual-core Wolfdale CPU. Once that happens, you can bet I'll learn how to make maps with UE3Ed and start work on Vortex Rikers or Rrajigar Mines, whichever one you guys hadn't done first.

  1. It's extremely unlikely the mod would be coming out tomorrow. You have better odds of watching Elvis pilot a UFO into the Loch Ness Monster and seeing Bigfoot climb out of the capsizing wreckage.
  2. Pentium Dual-Cores still suck. They're a notch above your Celeron D. Get a Core 2 at least.

Hmm, as I now have UT3, I might be able to help this project too. If you want, I could start working on Passage, as I know terrain and fluids quite well.
