oh yeah one more thing. I watched TWD and Brizz play a match once and looked at some other players who were good, and from what I gather Onslaught in pubs goes like this:

Two guys fly in raptors or one guy flies in raptor and other in manta.
Go to nodes as quick as you can and build them.
One person defends nodes under attack, one person attacks the enemy nodes.

as for playing tactics:
fly in raptor
kill tanks
see infantry firing AVRiLs at you
get out of raptor
kill infantry with 1337 skills
go back in raptor
repeat

:p

tell me what I got wrong here

edit: don't forget to heal your vehicles, that'll make you really 1337 :p

you forgot, defending :)

edit: but yes, momentum is the best way to get your team helping you and to win :)

1 The Leviathan is absolutely horrible against a manta. The homing missiles the thing fires go too slow to hit a circle strafing manta, and when deployed there's no hope for the Leviathan; the manta can easily speed away from any ion blasts

I would have to disagree with you there. If the levi has decent gunners, the manta will lose. Also 90% of the maps with levis dont have enough room for you to circle strafe a levi in the Manta. U need a big arc in order to stay far enough from the missiles that they wont hit u, and also so you dont kill yourself.

AS-Temple of Trials is good and so are AS-Skilltrials 1/2.

defending "tactics" and Levi killing

defending tactics:
look for node under attack
fly to node
get out of raptor/fast vehicle
attack and capture node
kill n00bs with 1337 skills
plant mines around base which kills more n00bs
kill tanks with raptor
kill raptors with turrets/hitscan wpns
go back in raptor/manta/fast vehicle
repeat
:p

In Severance there's enough room for me to fly circles around manta, even if I make oblong weird circles because of tight space. Red Planet has even bigger area to circle strafe. Custom maps with Levi's usually have big areas to dodge Levi's.
I agree simple circle strafing doesn't cut it, but circle strafing is usually just flying in circles around the levi. If you try to run right under the thing and spend more time dodging than shooting, the side turrets should have trouble shooting the manta and the homing missiles go too slow to hit usually. If the Leviathan manages to hurt me, I run away and heal my manta, then going back to killing the Leviathan. The beast takes awhile to destroy and you probably are better off capturing nodes, but sometimes you need to kill the Leviathan. More or less this tactic will work, atleast for pubs :p.

My point was that the manta takes damage from hitting just about anything. No map has a flat open space where you could do this, so you will damage yourself guaranteed. Now going back and healing works until you run out of link gun ammo, but that just wastes even more time than you already are fighting the levi. The best way to do it is to jump out with DD on top of it and use flak. Raptors are always better than Mantas for this anyway. Like you said the time would be much better spent on taking out the node that links where the levi is heading. That thing is too slow to kill a node before a Manta unless it has a across the map open shot with the big cannon.

Can we discuss a bit of weapons in this thread also? I have ok skills in most weapons, but the link gun I can't use at all. Is it even wise to use it in 1on1 games? I know only 4 hits are needed to kill an opponent, and this can be done in less than a second if yo hit with all. But somehow I just can't kill people with this. It's fairly easy to just dodge jump away and shoot with flak for example. Do you expert think the link gun is a worthy weapon to use, or would you rather use some other weapons for close combat?

Edit: and then the link secondary. I know it slows people down, but is it worth using in 1on1? I mean, it does not kill as fast as the primary, so I see it being even less usefull. In Bombing Run it can be used to slow down ball carriers, but my concern is more in 1on1 play.

I Love Onslaught!
Hi alls!

I have a question to the vehicles: how does this secondary horn works??
It sounds very very funny, but everything I try its always the primary horn..

In Raptor fights I always try to fly straight to the enemy Raptor and just in the moment he passes me, I turn quickly around and shoot the rocket.
In 90% the other Raptor has no chance to escape, cause the rocket is very near to him and he has too much speed to turn away.

With the tank it is best to shoot an approaching Manta as soon as possible. It works best to shoot on the ground where it goes down after a jump. This way you can burn him with one shot!

..btw. I think I should look at Taleweavers guide now - maybe its old stuff for you I'm talking about.. :nag:

Wireless Intelimouse Explorer 2.0 Key Binding

Has anyone figured out how to bind keys to the two side/thumb buttons on a Wireless Intelimouse Explorer 2.0? Pressing them while in the "Input" screen of "Settings" has no affect and I have no clue what to add to my User.ini to make them work in the game. The mouse is great except for this problem.

Well, thanks for the comments so far, guys.

Could be hopeless but I won't stop looking around for info and will post what I may find here.

All I've been able to do through experimentation is re-map the side/thumb buttons to function as the CTRL key. You can do this in the Mouse Software program that comes with the Wireless Intelimouse Explorer 2.0. None of the other choices you can set the buttons to seem to be recognized by Unreal Tournament 2004. Also, I had to manualy edit the UT User.ini to make this change; making adjustments through the in game Settings interface doesn't work for me.

tactic: sticky a 8 spider with 1 grenade each, making them twice as powerfull as they are normally. Or just stick 8 grenades on 1 spider, creating a BIG ASS EXPLOSION when the spider/grenades detonate

tactic Torlan: sticky an enemy basetower sniper with 6 grenades. Then jump down behind the base. Wait untill he gets into a vehicle, the grenades will be stuck on the vehicle instead of the guy himself. Detonate, and blow him into pieces (use 6 grenades because you need 6 to blow up a hellbender)

tactic: sticky a powernode, take a rocket launcher and shoot a centered triple at the grenades. Massive damage.

If you attach grenades to mines it does increase the damage - and cut the mines' speed in half.

Whenever an AVRiL comes at me in a manta I prefer to jump out of and back into the manta, destroying their lock.

Of course if you cant recover a vehicle you jump out of, it might be a better idea to die in it - letting the other team get your vehicle isn't ever a good idea - unless you attached a few grenades to it first. ;)

Link gun is not useless

The link gun primary fire is useful in SOME situations, such as when your opponent is running away from you in an attempt to get, say more health. You have to anticipate where the opponent is running, and shoot in front of where the guy is running. But on the other hand, I would prefer explosive weapons than the Link gun, like rocket.

Actually this wont take their lock away unless they let go of the lock or they dont follow it. And also the stealing factor like you said. Stolen Manta on Primeval=gg.

Good tactic, but incomplete. This only works if you're driving the manta; if you're just 'in' the manta (motionless), the enemy doesn't need to maintain the lock, as the rocket will keep going that same direction after the first lock, hitting your (still motionless) manta.
Also, you shouldn't hop back in unless that rocket's away, or when you're sure the shooter is distracted (like on spammy places)
