Resident Evil 5 (PC) - 4/10. Definitely not as good as RE4. It wasn't scary at all, and the bad guys get thrown in your face pretty much right away; there's no mystery as to who or what they are. I has a lot less content overall than RE4. The only reason this game was worth getting at all was for the CoOp.

Team Fortress 2 - 6.5/10. Not as good as I expected it to be, but it's still fun when I'm on the same team as my friends. I can't stand being on opposite teams at all, because then there's pretty much no teamwork. I guess I just figured that there would be a lot more teamwork involved, although I suppose it could just be the server I'm on. It's still been a blast when I get to team up with friends.

For some reason, every time I look at the marketplace thing where you can buy hats and such, I always wonder how much money Blizzard could make if they did something similar on WoW.

Section 8 (PC) - 6/10 so far. Just installed it today. The multiplayer community is pretty much dead. I did have a lot of fun playing against bots, though. The whole deployment thing is really cool. Even if it's a generic space marine shooter, it has still been a lot of fun so far. I imagine it'll be great on LAN.

Demigod - 4/10. The demigods are all pretty cool, and the graphics are great. The main problem is that there aren't that many maps to choose from, and the AI is dumb. What's left of the multiplayer community sucks. They refuse to let new players join servers because they're "noobs", only basing that on the player rank. Yeah, ok. Sins of a Solar empire has a similar community, unfortunately. Hopefully that's not the case with all Stardock games.

Fallout: New Vegas - 6.5/10. Honestly, I haven't even beaten the game yet, but I don't think my rating would ever change. This is the first Fallout game I've ever played. I noticed a lot of similarities to Stalker: Call of Pripyat, in terms of issues I have with the game. The main plot has been kind of boring so far, and I keep noticing that the AI and I constantly get stuck on little things like small rocks. A lot of the animations are pretty weak, and aside from that, the game just seems kind of inefficient, and it's crashed on me more than five times so far.

The side missions are a lot of fun, and getting critical hits is really gratifying. The environments are fun to explore, but they do tend to get kind of boring after a while. The RPG system is really well done, although it tends to get kind of overwhelming trying to choose which stats I want.

Hopefully there won't be so many issues when a patch gets released.

Fallout New Vegas: 9.

Yo man this game is pretty damn good and probably the best one I have played in this year alongside misters Lords of Shadow. PC version, and to be honest, I haven't encountered game bugs or glitches, just crashes. Well, I prefer crashes instead of something screwing up the game from inside.
This is the real Fallout game, FO3 was simply Oblivion with guns, but that doesn't mean that FO3 was bad. It was awesome in its own rights; can't forget the times of going into tons of metros, exploring tons of stuff in every locations, random encounters, funny SuperMutants and more. These factors don't appear in New Vegas (it's like, every location in the map is just a big truck with items).
Didn't play the thing in Hardcore mode since it sucks ass, but Very Hard itself is just amazing. Quite, I can go melee with the Cazadors alongside Rex, while Deathclaws and LakeLurks are still wtf.
Great game but I still hate casinos.

Megaman ZX Advent - 7.5/10

A decent Megaman game for the DS that has been sitting in my queue for nearly 2 years. It isn't your traditional megaman game in a sense, but more of a hub type game where you except little side missions as well as the usual story progression.

You still kill your basic 8 robot masters, but they have goofy names like Buckfire(fire based horse), Hedgeshock(shock based hedgehog), Chronoforce(water based turtle thing), etc. You also fight what are considered Megaman clones, and they are elemental based just like the robot masters.

Voice acting is pretty harsh but really no megaman game has ever had decent voice acting anyway.

I blazed through the game on Easy just so I could get it out of my queue, but I did have a save on Normal about 3/4 the way through the game. Difficulty can be a tad hard but nothing as bad as a proper Megaman title. With that being said it is a short game. I took it to town in about 5 1/2 hours, and that could easily be cut in half if you know what you need to be doing.

They have only made 2 games in this series in the last 4 years, which is quite odd for Capcom since they pump out Megaman games left and right it seems. I hope they do flesh out this universe a bit more as it is rather interesting.

Portal - Outstanding (5 stars)

I'm not sure I like the new ending opposed to the old one, which had a little more ambiguity and bleakness to it. Nevertheless, this game still is a masterpiece and imho the best thing Valve has done to date. Perfect pacing, great writing, a kickass song at the end ending and a wholly unique gameplay experience place this game on a level far above that of any FPS I have played.

The first 20 hours of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Good or Great (3 or 4 stars)

The jury is still out for this one. One one hand, I really like the combat, the ability to negotiate and recruit monsters as well as fight them, and the Fusion system that lets you play around with creating hundreds of demons. On the other, yeesh this game can be a grind fest. Experience grinding is practically non-existant thankfully, but hunting down the right demons for the right materials to make a new item is a chore. The dungeon-crawling is acceptable, but the first-person view just makes me look at the map-screen rather than the top screen.

And I really feel like this game is Pokemon for adults sometimes. Then again, for me that's a good thing. Oh and a portable RPG with this much content is so wonderful.

League of Legends 8/10

Apparently it's very reminiscent of DotA, but I never played that. :p So I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm thoroughly enjoying playing LoL. Addicting little game. Free to play too, always a good thing. Incredibly elaborate for a free game, well crafted and pretty too. A ****load of very different champions to pick from, all with their own story. Pretty good stuff.

Fallout: New Vegas - 7/10

Cons: (PS3 version)

  • Crashes. It will freeze the system at least once an hour. Reboot is the only option.
  • Slow-downs. Entering Freeside and Camp Forlorn Hope almost always cause massive slow-downs it takes minutes for it to return to normal.
  • Massive (8+ MB) save-game files.
  • Top out at level 30 is ridiculously low. Should be at least 50. I topped out playing nothing but side-quest, and having never entered the Las Vegas strip.
  • Limited access to "Perks" as compared to Fallout 3. Every other level up is stupid.
  • Some quest are irritating in that they require you to run back and forth between locations and most often between several load-screens.
  • Dated graphics.

Pros:

Hard (for me) to say... but, despite all the stuff above. I've been playing it daily since it came out. I've purposely avoided finishing the main quest just so I can continue to explore and play the side-quest. With any luck, the expansion pack(s) will start showing up before I finish the main quest.

I've been playing this as well. It's fun, but I have two complaints:

(a) A lot of the heroes feel pretty same-y. In general the design is to make heroes less wildly varying than they are in DoTA, which is both good and bad.

(b) The costs associated with everything are literally insane. And yes, you don't have to pay any actual money, but the game's "Influence Points" are accumulated at a grindingly slow pace to encourage you to buy with real money.

If you buy $50 of Riot Points (the highest ROI in dollars per RP), you get 144 Riot Points per dollar. However, many champions cost 975 Riot Points, which is nearly $6.77 for a single hero. Many skins cost $6.77 as well. Sure, this stuff can go "on sale" for 50/75% off, but even at 75% off you're only getting 1 character for $1.69. Since there are nearly 100 champions in the game, and well over 100 skins... The grand sum price of buying everything in this game is probably over $300 assuming you buy everything at a steep "discount" price. If you bought everything at the non-sale price you would probably spend over $1000 on this game.

I might be willing to pay $20-30 for League of Legends with everything unlocked, but I sure as hell am not willing to spend anywhere near either of those sums on it. It's a fun game, but the whole pricing scheme totally reinforces that League of Legends is a game you want to play casually and only with a couple of heroes you buy with IP, because it's absurd otherwise.

You're certainly not alone, cons or no cons. From what I hear the PC or 360 Version have their bugs as well but they're not as prevalent as PS3. I agree the level cap could have been higher this time, simply because I'm nowhere near as super powered as I was in the previous game and there are still enemies that can drop me in two or three hits. I hit my cap all too early, I felt.

True. I haven't really dove into the transaction side of the game, because I'm not going to spend any on it anyway. But yeah, it sounds pretty harsh. That last part is exactly what it's for for me though. Just a casual game. I'm noticing it goes incredibly slow to get the points together to buy a new champion, but I'm not in a hurry. ;p

Has anyone played Rock Band 3 yet or is GH2 still the best music game evar?

Been playing it since launch; I don't have any of the "pro" instruments yet so I'm still mostly just using the dinky plastic guitar.
It has a few options the series really should have had a long time ago, such as the ability to rate songs and sort them by rating, the ability for players to quickly change their individual settings, various features for sorting your playlists... It also has more of a cohesive, characterful playlist than RB2's, which was kind of messy and filled with ridiculously bad metal songs. That said, there are less highlights for me than either of the previous games.

There are quite a few stupid oversights though. They claimed before launch that you would be able to filter who you'd play with online by how much DLC you have in common - there is in fact no way to do this. The automated matchmaking does seem better, but you're still very likely to be stuck with a few pillocks who only have the basic song list.
They haven't added pro, vocal harmony or keyboard tracks to any existing DLC songs, and you have to actually pay extra for new DLC with pro guitar. That's pretty outrageous given how expensive the peripheral is. And if you bought a keyboard, for now you're stuck with Rock Band 3, The Doors and the Bee Gees.
It seems like you fail out of songs much quicker if you're having a hard time. You also don't get ranked on the leaderboards if you have No Fail Mode on - I had it on as a leftover from Ocean Size's insane solo, then played Mountain Song on bass and came in #1 in the world, but it wasn't recorded. I was angry.

Seems like a trivial thing, but the character customisation is annoying. There's a complex face generation system in addition to the usual stuff, but if you don't like your work once you've finished (which is very likely, as you only get a couple of angles during the creation process, and the finished characters have some very unpleasant animations), you can't edit them, so you have to delete them and start over again.
Also, you no longer have to "buy" clothes from song winnings (instead of winnings you just get fans, which improves your e-penis rank. But the final rank requires you to get every single goal for every single instrument in the game...), you just unlock new stuff as you achieve goals. This means that every time you want to change your outfit, you have to go sifting through the entire menagerie of trash to find anything you'd actually like. There's no way of saving your favourite outfits. Like I said, trivial, but annoying. It's also much harder than before to create a good-looking character.

There are a lot of other small ways in which it feels clunky. It's been two years since Rock Band 2, I really felt they should have done a lot more. If you're new to the series, you're not missing much if you pick up cheap copies of RB2 and RB1 (the latter for the playlist, which can be imported).
