mmmMMMmmmm...The idea of sniping from 600+ meters and hiding in bushes etc makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
mmmmm, the idea that players think they can or will be viably doing such shots makes me itch for an uninstall button already...

Sounds promissing.

The mod menu is fairly common, but UT(2kx) has been the only series that allows a
person to select multiple mods at the same time. Still, sounds like you can probably
work something comperable in via the scripts.

Looks like I need to make a trip over to CompUSA :)

Farcry looks okay... I still prefer UT2k4. Farcry's what-you-see-is-what-you-play editor looks very nice though for an inept mapper like myself. I don't think Infiltration would be as popular with the crowds if they moved to Farcry... maybe that's a good thing?

I can snipe (albeit not too efectively against moving targets) from across RtK. I think the sniping system in-game represents the difficulty of long range shots (barring wind etc...) fairly well. The current problem is that when a sniper shoots at you it is rediculously hard to find cover, something that should be much improved on a newer engine.

Please oh please oh please go with Far Cry engine. OMG that would make for an awesome Infiltration. Their AI and such is already really good. The gameplay is great. I cannot imagine what it would be like after you guys were done with it, but I know it would be great. Once again, please oh please oh please. :)

If you do go with Far Cry, please consider some level of integration with Teamspeak since Far Cry does not include integrated com.

Farcry's LOD shifts are apparently incredibly obvious and annoying, almost like popup objects in a PSX racing games, even on people with 9800 and FX cards and top of the line systems. Plus the plastic normal mapping on objects and people doesn't impress me.

So can I. So can anyone else for that matter. That's the only thing anyone does in that map.

It's also the #1 reason an updated engine can do us some good, an increase in detail means an decrease of rediculously flat objects for us to stick out like sore thumbs against.

That is of course, provided that steps are taken so Farmer McScopejockey isn't humping the most important peice of hardware in his squad.

yes, i know. The updated engine will also help because with more space to operate in it will be easier to avoid a sniper once his presence is known, as opposed to the current maps which tend to funnel you towards particular chokepoints.

Must bea differant game, because the Far Cry that I played had some of the dumbest bots I have ever had the displeasure of "fighting." I put that in quotes because it's not really fighting when they have the intelligence of an AFK player. I had a video showcasing Far Cry's AS (Artificial Stupidity, as it is obviously not AI), but I can't find a working link for it.

I found the bots to be more "intelligent" than in any other FPS game I've played. They work together, try to flank you and respond by scattering and heading for cover once they are fired upon. They also keep their "alert" level once they have spotted you, making it more difficult to sneak past them even if you drop out of sight. They also start searching for you once you are spotted even if they can't see you at the time. I'd say they are more clever, if there is such a thing when it comes to computer games, than in most other FPS'.

The video that I mentioned shows a bot crouching and facing the corner of a ramp while the player throws rocks at its head. It never gets up. It never shoot back.

Another thing that I have seen is that bots will run back and forth endlessly, untill shot.

My concern at the moment is the support for modders available for FarCry. Just visited the site and there doesn't seem to be much there. Just downloaded the patch. Thank god the shadows are fixed. I just don't see much elase there. Am I looking in the wrong place?

short replies:
@sir_edmond... I have these links already, thanks ;)

@Demosthanese... the AI is incredible but can get stuck like in any other FPS out there in places. UTs bots behave pretty bad in certain situations too. If a bot gets stuck (no matter what engine) you can normally do anything you like without him reacting. FarCrys 'bots' do have different modes of alertness that really affect how they behave and these modes can change based on the actions you and they take. The group AI is most times really incredible too. But as all bots out there... you can get them at specific bottle necks like doorways and such pretty easily. But even there the FarCry AI is pretty good cause their bots can hide behind walls, obstacles aso and even lean out behind them. Things that UT bots do not need to know due to the different style of play they are designed for.

@benmcl... their support is there. They have released a documentation for their sandbox editor that really deals with everything you need, and it was updated already to get even more infos within. Sure, the SDK is not yet released... so everybody is waiting for this to happen.

@OICW... the LOD shifts on my system aren't that bad as you describe them but they are noticeable within certain areas. But if you check out the view distance and fog then UT is not actually the best reference due to the very early fog showing up. Sure adjustable but not that much to get a decent view.

anyway... you pulled me into some sort of discussion I actually did not planned to start with this. ;)

Ok... errr... when the sdk is out, you could try to learn it all the stuff making a little mod for Far Cry to modify the weapons (free-aim animations, no aimpoint, you know :D)

I played Far Cry, it was great, but the weapons were very average. I want like-Inf goodness weapons!!!

@zeep , go buy farcry.

does farcry come with a cd key to play online too? it seems like all you people got it already and somehow i dont get the feeling you all went out to the store to pick it up.

Anyway, im jealous.

And the farcry engine may be all that, but it doesnt have voice com. UT2k4 does.

dont mess with me now, im in a very bad mood.
my day has been bad. very bad.

.. i still like the idea of comunity mutators, from RAv2 back in the 2.86 days to the weapon mods out now. i think its important to keep things like this in future versions of inf... they sure as hell keep me playing (even if offline)
