I bought UT2K3 when it came out and then UT2K4 when 2K3 died the inevitable death. The MSUC back then was a great way of transitioning players into 2K4.

If this ends up as a whole new release in the same manner as was handled back then I don't think I will be shelling out cash on a 3.5.

I will spend money on this.
If it was "free" I couldn't see this being as major as I would like, and if this was in the stores maybe some new people will join and Epic gets some money to advertise it as well.
(I'm expecting and willing to be paying, it's easier that way ;))

That said, I kinda agree with what some others have said which is that this is kind of a "last chance" with the most of the PC crowd. I don't think it has to be ultra-perfect but there would be a permenant loss of numbers if they do it poorly.

I mostly hope they come out with new themed maps (new content, textures, meshes etc..) and if the UI menu was more like UT2004 then that would be great. (although I use mapmixer, so I don't even notice that anymore)

This obviously isn't going to be anything more than a huge expansion or perhaps something like the ece version for ut2004. The MSUC is still going on for nearly another year for UT3 so I don't see epic coming out with a new UT for quite some time

One thing is for sure. This is Epic's last chance with the PC crowd. This will either make up for the disappointments and the feeling of neglect, or it will kill the UT franchise on PC for good.

I think we have to assume at the moment the announcement means for all platforms ut3 was released on, so that may affect the end result of so called expansion, is pc going to get the dedication it deserves/needs?

I really hope they take their time and come up with something good.

GOW2 is out of the way so they have no excuse.

i think the most important thing to focus is UI, customization, and making warfare at least half what it was supposed to be, making it independent of cores and nodes
give it actual missions and objectives capabilities
bringing back assault and Domination spirit into warfare
i really like both gametypes, but we cant risk fragmenting the community like that

hum i forgot the AI
they spoiled us with an unbelievably smart communicative AI, but the current is a port over from ut04

Why do people keep wanting the Ripper/Razor Jack back :s It was cool in U/UT1 and worked in it, but it never would have worked in 2k3/4 or UT3 because of the level design making it a ricochet nightmare. It would become a fraction of the gun it was.
This is actually a really good point and seeing it made me recall some comments I heard from someone close to the project. The ripper in a static mesh filled environment would have great hurdles to overcome to work successfully.

Rein saying "Major Expansion" should be taken with a grain of salt.

Either way, to warrant a purchase from me I want to see:

- Overhauled UI

- Removal/Option for ambient music

- Return of Thundercrash/Juggernaughts

- DOM/AS

- Heaps of new maps/locales.

This is certainly great news however I will reserve any urges of excitement until I now for sure what "Major Expansion" means exactly in Epic's definition.
Meanwhile I will expect the worst and hope for the best.

Nonsense. There were plenty of maps in UT2004 in which the C.U.T.T.E.R. worked great. Lots of fun. I'd even say it was at least as much fun as the original buzzsaw was back in ChaosQ2.

And don't forget..., if for some reason you design a map that doesn't play well with a certain weapon, you don't have to include that weapon in the map. That's the simple beauty of the system. And, in those rare occasions, folks can even design maps with the 'game play' foremost in their mind. ;) I've heard rumors that mapping can in fact be more than just seeing how many purdy smeshes you can slap in a box.

I thought the viper was a vehicle D: The flak cannon is totally different as it fires a large amount of projectiles with a good spread. The Ripper fires a single projectile, making it rely heavily on bouncing around for a kill. Most people would probably end up using secondary fire which would, again, be degrading it again from it's previous stance.

That screenshot you posted with the CUTTER in it is a good example of a map that it COULDN'T be used in without a headache because of all the meshes, just look at the walls around the lava pit. EPIC is not going to include any maps with very without any meshes in them in retail. They want their maps to look nice so that they can use them to sell on graphics. Therefore, the maps wont' work well with the Ripper.

Hell, for gametype requests, I'd say they put orb/flag carrying in a vehicle back in
They had it once, saw the vids, so either that or at least some damn valid reason why they removed it

This isn't much of a point though. MSUC started with UT2003 last time, and the submission deadlines were altered when UT2004 came out to allow time to adjust to the new engine/game. Once UT2004 came out, all mods had to be compatible with it.

o damn I'm late for this one.

But woo yay. I enjoyed ut3 (sue me) and the only reason I dont play it much is because of the lackluster community. Any updates are cool in my book.
