I think the Ripjack could be redone and retooled to work correctly in UT3. you'd just have to tweak the rate of fire, number of bounces before the blade projectile explodes (explain that with "Tyridium vibration threshold..." or something.

I only fight for the ripjack 'cause it was one of the franchise's defining weapons/characteristics. I detest the Translocator myself and avoid CTF play mainly because of it, BUT I gotta say I'd NEVER ask for it to be removed. It too is one of UT's defining items even in my eyes.

anywho, among the bugs and fixes I'd like to see,

I want more video/sound/performance options in my UI, and I'd appreciate it if they all worked. Not a TON, but if they were close to the UT2004 options I'd be happy as all heck. Those kind of solid fixes, the kind of options any good PC title should have, would warrant me spending a few $ but I'd still be a bit annoyed overall if the rest of the game didn't shine and say "sorry that last one was our bad".

Fix the weird mid-air projectile physics screw ups. I'm tired of seeing my Bio stick to nothing,.. floating there and rockets that explode upon impact with apparently dust particles, or maybe it's errant oxygen molecules..?

FFS optimize the physics wouldja? I'd love to see UT3's vaunted and overly hyped physics work on a machine that doesn't also happen to launch spacecraft for NASA or crunch numbers for the NWO's budget plans.

Drag the Demoguy out in a back alley and shoot him, then hang him, then kill him. (then maybe rape him...)

Oh and Dodge Jumps,.. another defining characteristic of the UT franchise,.. I do NOT think they should be on by default, but an official Mutator would be sweet imho.

Work on Warfare some more until mappers are able to create both Assault style, and ONS style maps from the content. I'm maybe mistaken, but I haven't seen anything that seems "Assault" to me, just ONS with Orbs.. ugh Orbs.. smack the guy that brought those into the developer meeting please.

I think the devil will be in the detail.

I'll wait and see what's on offer. If it's a UT3 expansion rather than a complete repackage I hope for those who have already purchased the game (me and others) it will be free.

There is also how it will be treated for consoles as opposed to PC's.

Yeah, I'll wait and see...........

Mark rein or epic's idea of major might not be your idea of major.

Some of you keep talking about old content from the older games it's like you want the old unreal games made in a newer graphics engine, is that all UT is about? I think in a futuristic setting as UT there will be many inventions and technology used to make all kinds of weapons and objects - yet many just want to port old features, what about new and exciting features. I say if you really want the feel of the old games just go and play them. I still do.

I paid a high price for UT3 collector's edition so hope I'm not going to have to pay for the game again, I think a lot of us feel this way. If there's money involved - it has to be seriously worth it - epic know this. An updated version of the game should be priced accordingly - perhaps even sold in 2 versions - a ut3 sold with new additions included phasing out the current product, and an expansion pack which is cheaper, so those of us who already have the game can get that. Free download would be best :)

I'll be surprised if they release any old gametypes.

I'm expecting some skins, vehicles, maps, mutators, perhaps new special weapon... and maybe something interesting from the mod community, maybe a new gametype, something.

A major redesign of the interface for the PC version will be a surprise, not expecting something like that, but I'm expecting some new user/community friendly features to come in to advance what is already there.

I don't expect any big single player stories to be added.

end of the day, not everyone will be pleased with what epic bring us, someone will always complain :)

I think some seperation needs to happen between what we should expect, and what people fantasize about.

if every suggested feature was included the game would be a complicated mess.

we still have mappers and modders ( respect :D ) who provide us with plenty of excellent content for free, including all those old features some of you long for in a newer graphics engine.

If they bring back the ripjack i hope it will be the natural evolution of the one in UC2. The rate of fire and the modified secondary they've made in UC2 seems to me the best way to port it in UT3 without being too spammy. Of course it needs some tweaks, as the splash damage of the maximum charged blade it's a little too much, but that's to me the way to go.

Of course if they want to come out with a brand new weapon for the franchise i'll probably be even more happy to try it out. It's almost 10 years that we're using the same weapons over and over again, a new toy to frag people with should be a welcome addition if they do it right. :)

Actually this is the first feature i'm expecting from the expansion. Mike Capps already said that they started it but they didn't managed to finish it before the game hit the shelves, so i think it's fair to assume that they are picking up the unfinished UI they already have and get it done.

What I don't expect from them, sadly, is the demise of gayspy as the master server infrastructure. I think this is too big of a feature for an expansion. :(

That would be cool but all too often a game adds something way too gimmicky.

One thing is for sure. This is Epic's last chance with the PC crowd. This will either make up for the disappointments and the feeling of neglect, or it will kill the UT franchise on PC for good.

I'd expect a retail release of the winning MSUC stuff, kinda payback for payout. Perhaps with some Epic polish. An expansion pack would be cool, maybe with afore mentioned MSUC winners for a ride. I can't see a redo of the GUI or fixxor physics as it would break compatability and end up its own game...

A non-beta demo to coincide with the release of whatever this expansion ends up being would probably be a good idea. Valve offered a free weekend with their first big expansion and, seeing how they've done the same thing with the other two big updates, I'd say it's been extremely successful in terms of sales.

I'd really like to get back into UT once I've done some upgrades. Whether it's free or retail, it'll probably end up on my hard drive.

Holy crap, too many comments to read!!

Here is what I hope we will see (and if we see this, I'll be excited to pay money for the "expansion").

* New, reworked UI that is easier for technical people to mod (UIScene is cool but I can't wrap my brain around it).
* Working clientside demorec
* Better custom crosshair manipulation (preferably in-game)
* Removal of, or minimization of integration of, Gamespy
* Improved netcode for all gametypes with tweaking done between vehicle maps and non-vehicle maps on server on the fly
* Linux client on-disc (that possibly works for regular UT3 as well).

Personally, I hope they completely destroy netcode compatibility between un-expanded and expanded. For one, there is not enough people playing the game right now to care if a few of them drop off. For another, they would have an opportunity to fix some problems in the core netcode engine (namely things like Demoguy crap).

Bring on UT3.5 at retail!

im on that ride... UT3.5 Xtreme Edition. Theyve just got to figure out a way to trash and redo the UI without breaking compatability.. then Fix & Polish the game up like it should have been on release. Add bucketloads of tight new content, a couple factions and some more maps, make character customization like it used ta be and add the Winners from the MSUC like they did last time and we'll be talking...

oh yeah, dont forget the discount coupon codes for each retail UT3 we bought for those of us who support with cash through thick n thin :)

How can an INTERFACE break compatibility with another version of the game? The only aim of a user interface is to collect input, store values on some configuration files and put together a command to start the engine with the maps and the rules you specified within it. It's only a facade that can be good or bad to deal with, but as long as the mechanism behind it remains the same you can modify it the way you want.

Just think about the uWindows 2.0, if what you're saying is right there's no way that you can play with other people online if they doesn't have uWindows installed too.

Also, they already make us re-download almost every system file at every patch, so i believe that, if they really want to, they can replace the whole UI in a single patch without making the download any larger than what it is with the 1.3. It's just more logical that they make the change in a full fledged bonus pack.
