That screenshot you posted with the CUTTER in it is a good example of a map that it COULDN'T be used in without a headache because of all the meshes, just look at the walls around the lava pit.

Actually, that map is an example of where the CUTTER worked wonders. Only took me a moment just now to grab another (head)shot to help me make the point. Blades bounce around just fine, and it can be great fun.

And in the first shot I posted, secondary fire would have done the trick just fine, and is also quite fun.

EPIC is not going to include ....

If I were to rely solely on maps (or anything for that matter) that come from Epic, I never would have played UT and UT2004 for as long as I did. Without a constant flow of quality custom maps, you've got a dead game (from my POV at least).

So anyway, I respectfully disagree. I don't feel you've made a good case against a buzzsaw type of weapon. To each his own. Which of course is the beauty of a fully mod-able game. Which brings me 'round to being on topic, sort of. Let's hope 'fully mod-able' is in UTs future...

...somewhere, over the rainbow....;)

(not reading the whole thread)
This is good news to me, as long as this expansion includes "lots more configuration options available ingame without editing ini files!"

Sometimes I don't understand the guys over at Epic. It's like their team of dev's is Split. Clifford B, Mike Capps, and Tim Sweeney are all revolting against the PC and fostering to consoles, making remarks Epic is done with PC games and support. Then mark rein comes out and says a major face lift add on is releasing for UT3, along with a couple of unannounced PC/Multiplatform titles - Yeah I read PC in that. Weird. What they need to do is have cliffyb quit talking out of his ass.

If this expansion is just 'new' maps, 'new' characters or 'new' gametypes (rehashing old ideas isn't really new) then I don't really see this sticking unfortunately.

It's been almost 10 years, so as far as gameplay goes, i'd like to see ONE, SOLID, completely new gun. Or, at the very least, an official Ripper comeback.

Ha!

Yet I totally agree. I have no faith left in Epic, if they prove me wrong then great, but I doubt it.

My sentiments exactly.

One thing is for sure. This is Epic's last chance with the PC crowd. This will either make up for the disappointments and the feeling of neglect, or it will kill the UT franchise on PC for good.

I also agree.

Holy crap, too many comments to read!!

Here is what I hope we will see (and if we see this, I'll be excited to pay money for the "expansion").

* New, reworked UI that is easier for technical people to mod (UIScene is cool but I can't wrap my brain around it).
* Working clientside demorec
* Better custom crosshair manipulation (preferably in-game)
* Removal of, or minimization of integration of, Gamespy
* Improved netcode for all gametypes with tweaking done between vehicle maps and non-vehicle maps on server on the fly
* Linux client on-disc (that possibly works for regular UT3 as well).

Bring on UT3.5 at retail!

I agree except the pay part.No way will I give them a cent after the beta I purchased. They fix it and we'll call it even. That's how it should be imho.

Rein saying "Major Expansion" should be taken with a grain of salt.

You know it.I have a hard time believing him period.

Make the game harder, more stable, custom hairs, swap fire mode, fix the well know bugs and obvious problems, polish, hone, then go back it and do it all again.Remove GaymeSpy altogether. If it doesn't have what 2k4 had then it's a step back, not forward imo.

I'd like the game to flourish and return to playing it,but I think the damage has been done.If the game was given away the player counts probably wouldn't rise much, but this is one thing I want to be surprised and wrong about.

We'll see.(fingers crossed)

Personally, I hope they completely destroy netcode compatibility between un-expanded and expanded. For one, there is not enough people playing the game right now to care if a few of them drop off. For another, they would have an opportunity to fix some problems in the core netcode engine (namely things like Demoguy crap).

Its not enough!

Were split into 4-5 different game generations.
Epics next step needs to be so revolutionary that they force people to move from the old to the new game.

Someone said this is Epics last chance and i agree.

Dont screw this up Epic, THINK BIG!

Well I think this is good news myself, what Id be wondering is if the "expansion" will be released on all 3 platforms. I could see that having some impact on how well it does if the content is made more generic to suit all 3.

I really do hope we get a UI overhaul on PC though not so much the system, that kinda works, it just needs some loving to bring it inline with what people are used to on PC. Hopefully the UIScene editor gets some much needed loving as well :p

Anyways I wont say anymore, I'll leave the feature list in Epics hands, cant wait to hear more

Then, frankly, you shouldn't have bought it. I've gotten way more than my $50 worth out of the game, and I'll gladly sink another $50 into a new game in a series I really enjoy.

I'm sure you'd also like to have the UT2004 gameplay back :shake:

So? If you want to play a series that isn't broken into this or that or whatever, then start playing brand new IP. Once you make a sequel, you fragment your community.

Also, there is obviously no way they can live up to your expectations. Why set your hype level so high that they can't possibly attain it?

yes fragment what little bit of community this game has left rofl. 300 people play ut3 online on a GOOD DAY. if this is truly ut4 I guess we well see even less on any given day. Why can't they just scrape this all together and make something that would create mass player counts and easily bring interest back to the unreal series. ALA UT99Live.

How would breaking up 300 players and hopefully adding more players where the game is all fixed up be a bad thing?

Well something to note here, those may not be the same 300 people every day. So it could possibly be up to 2100 in a week and thats not even counting people who play every other week etc :p

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

TheIronKnuckle

What the hell is this "ballin" thing?
Things I wouldn't mind are a better UI, the OpenAL option fixed so it doesn't crash people's computers, DemoGuy an official skin name, a better way of downloading files than having them spammed in chat, something like 2k4 in terms of crosshair customization. Please.
"DemoGuy an official skin name"
Hell yes!

You speak words of win. All these people saying "bu- but, you'll split the communtiy!" are obviously blind. What community? 300 people? Let them die and reforge a new community in the ten thousands!

The main thing for me: I want a tournament mode as it appeared in UT99 TBH. Just give some more backing story to it.

And you know what would be nice to include? Jailbreak. Hire wormbo and the JB team pls epic. ;)
Serously. JB is more fun then CTF imo and making it a stock gametype is a decision that is totally made of win.

edit: This is a late april fools joke right? Where is the source of this quote from mark?

I don't know if we'll finish JB by the end of the MSUC, at least, not with enough maps to be worthwhile anyway. (hint hint visit JB forum section here if you'd like to make maps!)
