At the outset, I must say that I don't want to become involved in any more flamewars. It really is a distraction from the MY main game which is downloading and commenting on maps. Deciding to comment was the only reason I registered with this site. I thought someone with a few decades of computer gaming experience may make some helpful comments to new mappers. So for me it really is about the gaming aspect.
That being said you should be aware by now that, if anything, I am the master of being unreasonable to people. Lately though I've decided, if this business is ongoing, to stay out of it; it really doesn't help the site and it certainly doesn't make me love the world at large. Basically it just ends up being stupid and negative.
But, for once, I think this )Hidra( guy was a real problem. I've been tracking the guy's behaviour over the past month or so and, quite frankly, it's impossible to post any comments against him; either on his own maps or comments he made on other people's work. (A lot of those comments were in situations where he had not even played the map; totally useless really and IN MY OPINION insulting to the mappers who had put the work in and given us these free maps whether they be good, bad or indifferent product).
The only comments he would accept about his own work had to elevate him to the pro mapper level; if not you got flamed with the most ridiculous and pathetic rubbish. It wasn't even flaming that you could argue against. In fact, I was beginning to wonder if the guy had some serious behavioural problems. (I don't mean that to be taken lightly or comically; I think someone should email him and tell him to see a professional before there are some serious repercussions in his young life).
The whole thing really became evident when Fordy left an honest, yet er, "negative" comment against his 1/1-CharbonX. Because it was Fordy, who has a site of some influence in the UT mapping community, you could see this guy's mental process starting to unravel. He didn't like the comment, he tried to throw it off, but he couldn't out and out attack either because it was to his benefit to stay chilled on Fordy. That's o.k. for Fordy, but everyone else got treated like ****.
Then he started on at slaskan as if slaskan was a new mapper and he ()Hidra() had been around. Indeed, he had been around; he posted against one of slaskan's maps last year under the handle zzeta. It was only a matter of time until he painted himself into a corner and now this is the end result.
Personally, I have never seen any good or pro mapper act with such disrespect to others. They don't have to; their work speaks for itself. Perhaps there is someone out there who has no sense of respect or community but I, personally, am not aware of them.
I agree that the clan thing was bad. That type of behaviour is just as negative and destructive and, if those guys had been around for some time, as they said, they could have done better by themselves. (As previously mentioned, even I have decided to clean up my act).
Personally I think that this )Hidra( guy brought this on himself. In the short term his behaviour may have been excusable, but in the long term the only thing that really "rocks my balls" (thanks Prophet) is respect and a sense of community. Either he was 10 years old (literally) and these concepts were too "adult" for him or whatever; but it had to stop. He shot himself in the foot; over and over again. In the end, him ****ting on others was only destroying himself. Indeed if it had been either of my kids I wouldn't have let them near a computer if their behaviour was going to result in this type of thing. They would end up being destroyed online by some dickhead (like me).
That's it for me. I'm going to change into my flame retardent underwear. You can all have at me now and ****kick away. Personally I'm not interested. I just want to get back to gaming. (Oh and finding interesting screenshots to post in the screenie musuem thread).
