Scar d00d .. you used play gunner are you saying you feared a tech ? -_- please dont say yes .. the trick is gettin in close to gunner and alt shotty them .. but in order to do that you risk an early death ... lets see you accomplish this agianst a formitable ally such as Jimmeh,Fluery or Vengeance playing as gunner and see how succesful you are .. trust me .. its an early grave .. the most you can hope for is bringing them to near death

PS: only gunners hate gas becuase its a very effective way to kill them .. but rest assured im sure FMI already has a fix for that :p ... but i fear that techs will not be useful for anything more then hacking stuff -_-

one other thing .. how many techs do you see these days besides clan dedicated postion followers ? .. only techs i see is the noobs becuase of the deployables i think techs suck as they are right now lol

Just a note here:
As a life-long shotgun owner and hunter I can assure you that real-life shotguns spread nothing like the ones in games.
Game versions are extremely exaggerated in terms of pattern spread as well as velocity drop-off.

Even a sawed-off holds a tighter pattern than any shotgun I've ever seen in a game.
They are also far more dangerous to fire in an indoor environment with bulkheads instead of walls made from softer materials.
Ricochet is a bitch... lol.

Btw, my official stance on weapon balance is as follows:
They make it, I'll use it... as long as it goes "BOOM!"

you can shoot a long way with the shot gun in xmp, after a while you can figure out where the actual balls will go... :eek:

However they balance the wepons - the same as XMP v6 or v7 - people will still winge :D

There are ways of killing every class and every player... So chill :lol:

I always played as the Tech, ever since the Beta. BTW, not a noob. I was very good at my position.

A long long way from home...
I play tech quite a bit and (~appently) am quite good at it, unsurprisingly! I tend to have a rule of sparingly using gas and deployables (ie when i run out of other stuff) - It's so much more fun to bbq people :D Or to bounce Assault rifle shells off people's heads :p

Yah, I also rarely use the gas, and only use deployables in defensive places (AND SPARINGLY).

Yet again, i say, learn to code in unrealscript, it is a fairly easy start, to learn, and get ready to create mutators, because if you don't like how it plays, mutate it. :lol:
  • instagib pistols for everyone
  • Conc jump to original u2xmp state ( with some tweaking)
  • adding of extra classes
  • returning of tech shotty to v 7710 state ( one shot alt = instagib if at very close range)
  • instagib gunner rockets ?
  • instagib for ranger on headshot? ( should have been there, because it sort of mutes the point to be a snipper if ur position is given away just to get one person)
  • various other issues/wishes not shown in that small list.

Anyway, i had a post about this topic before...In my opinion, gas nades need some limitation-ing, and the shot-gun is a bit over powered. Everything else is.good...****..my.space.bar's.gone.now...anyway.if.you.think.i'm.biased.against.techs,.you.don't.know.****...it's.like.playing.the.easy.mode...i.mean,.i.played.gunner.since.this.thing.started...and.switching.to.tech?..god.that's.easy...granted.i'm.not.a.great.tech,.and.i.can't.utilize.it.well.enough.to.own...but.it's.way.to.damned.easy.to.kill.gunners.with.em...you.guys.just.listen.to.zak...he's.pretty.smart...

i thought they were fixing the third person bug, because that was what i was referring to... but if it is still there, i will be one of the few conc jump masters of utxmp ;), after all, almost no one plays gunner.

that's true bottie, but mind you
these days around it's hard to find a good gunner that's active and that has the rocket aim to get rid of rangers and techs easily
only ones that come to my mind are slow,silver and dakar and like you said vengeance and fleury and puppy if he's still active
there should be a couple more but that's it
jimmeh isn't active by my knowledge
but to start off clean in utxmp the new players should learn how to use the emp nades and get the nade aim up as it is far more effective for a tech vs gunner if you're a good tech.
most techs concentrate too much on the gas and they spam it all around so that they run out, need time to switch weapons and get killed


and like you said you risk an early death if you go in close, so throw an emp at the gunners foot and shotgun him two times in the head
should work most of the times unless it's a gunnner mentioned above,then you need some luck

Honestly, I think that techs are decent against most gunners. Once they get an alt shotty in, blindness, and shotgun at a nice distance. Emp grenades are great to get rid of the shields and of course a few techs soften up the gunner with gas/or assault rifle from a far distance before coming in...so I don't think it's as unbalanced as people might originally think.

Conc jumping is still in UTXMP.

Or, you know, the tech can just jump into the air and become almost immune to rockets. You have to wait for them to get close to a solid object before you can fire a practical shot which gives them at least two shotgun blasts or 1 gas grenade attack on you. Then you get one or perhaps two shots at them before they go airborn again.

The gunner should be the ultimate in close range combat and as of right now the best place to be in a fight with a gunner is in their face. This is because the flamethrower is a short range laggy piece of crap that blinds the gunner to its own target.
