UT2007 Page Updated

We've updated our UT Codename Envy Unreal Tournament 2007 page with a bit of new info as well as a crapload of screenshots from various sources, including the hi-res screenshots that surfaced earlier today. We're only mirroring the low-res versions of these screenshots for the moment. Hi-res versions can be obtained over at GameWallpapers.com.

Update: Midway Media Relations has confirmed to BeyondUnreal that "Unreal Tournament 2007" is indeed the official name of the next UT title.

I am just stunned because I thought this was going to be a "very different game" and to me logically that would mean a break from previous naming conventions as well to really show the different direction that is being taken ... but now I don't know just how "different" it will be from UT2003 and UT 2004.

I am personally disappointed because imho it shows a bit of a lack of creativity. For years now it has been tied to a year ... why not be bold and tie it to the engine used? But I have been wrong before I and in all likely hood I will be wrong again. Darn it I just don't like that name for a completely next generation game with a completely new and overhauled engine. But of course I support Epic and wil be porting HaloUT to HaloUT07 .. I've got to come up with something better than that. I think we will call our updated version HaloUT3 ... it sounds better than the former to me.

At this point I'm not lending a whole lot of weight to Envy or UT3 or UT2007 or Unr341 70urn4m3n7 as the "final title" than I would lend to... oh, say... the name of the new XBox.

Yes, it could basically be any name right now, but for now it looks like UT2007. I sure hope they change it to UT3. Good shots anyway though.

Boo. I hope Epic's reading this and realizing that (hopefully) most users are NOT interested in the year-name schema. Even just for working titles, "Envy" is a billion times better than "UT2007". I'm so sick of typing "UT2004" or "UT2k4" -- I fat-finger it a couple of times, pretty much EVERY time I type them out. Give me "Envy" any day.

"Envy" is a better name than the yearly naming theme...considering ENVY is what other games should feel when they see it!

According to the Epic official forum Admin we should wait for the announcement at E3 before jumping to ANY conclusions ... I started a thread and he answered so maybe there is hope after all.

I'm just against weapons that you can't obviously tell what they are. What happened to the good solid weapons? Like the Quake3 rocket lancher or the Doom2 Super Shotgun. The gun in that third pic looks so fragile. Don't get me wrong, it looks good technically, but it just looks so tacky at the same time. The first thing that came to my mind was, "Is that a salad shooter?".

Mann I can see why ppl complain about the name, but my qualm about it is minimal at this point... hehe I'm just too busy being syked up over these screenshots. Mann! shoot if this is how the game is gonna look, I'm gonna finally feel good about holdin off upgradin my old ass PC.

No, I didn't fall for the "upgrade ur PC to play Doom III" hype...

But this??? If this game is what we are all hopin it is... I'm definitely gettin me the new CPU, PPU, and whatever other U's I'll need to experience this game... dare I say it...

Man I haven't had a video game "hero" since... sonic da hedgehog lol, and I outgrew him a long time ago (sorta). Malcom is da man! hehe and they're makin him look really badass in these screenshots! He's like... the Mace Windu of da UT world hahaha...

In all honesty, I would much rather have UT2007 than another one of the TITLE:Subtitle style names that are all over the place now. As for UT3, that's technically UT2004 (which I know someone is going to say is just UT2.5, so shut up, it isn't. Third UT release, wasn't an expansion pack, ergo, third UT).

Y'know TomWithTheWeather, I can see where your comin from as it's a matter of taste. But personally (and this is just my personal taste), I actually am totally the opposite...

Part of what I'm all syked up about is the exotic, over-the-top, look of all the weapons I'm seeing so far. Sure, they dont look "realistic" or "solid"... but then again screenshots rarely do weapons any justice... we gotta see em in action, in their proper context, before making any judgements.

I love the over the top weapons of UT2k4. The only two that I don't really like are the Assult Rifle and Sheild gun; imo those are the blandest of em all, but the rest are really kewl...

That's one badass "salad shooter" tho lol watch out for exploding tomatoes hehe...
