Q, you continue to put me in the category of people ignorant of science just because I believe in "god". I fully understand the end of the Cretaceous. Evolution and mother nature do some weird things. Given your number, that 10% of the population was still around, then it is completely likely in my opinion that some dinosaurs might have survived. Between the two options I stated, one is more likely. Doesn't mean I'm not highly suspicious of the dinosaurs living on until somewhat recent times. Your coelecanth, and other species like the australia dingo IIRC were thought extinct and then mysteriously reappeared in number a long, long time later.
"catharsis" ****ing germans are using words I don't even know.
First of all, I think it’s admirable that you continue to work through this discussion when most religious people have given up.
As far as dinosaurs surviving the asteroid, the large dinos didn’t. There wasn’t enough food and warmth for them. It was mainly small animals that could live underground or live off small amounts of food that survived. Big animals require big food sources, and there just wasn’t any. Many times there is an abundance of small animals, like rats and mice, because there’s enough food in the surrounding environment to sustain them. If large dinosaurs multiplied like mice, the food supply of the world would soon run out. anyway, the greater numbers of small animals also helped to ensure survival. Like going into battle with a large number of troops compared to a small number. With large numbers, many can be killed off, but there are still sufficient numbers to carry on.
The fossil record ‘clearly’ shows that there were no large animals like dinosaurs around after the catastrophe. However, in a way you’re correct in that small creatures survived and they have evolved over time to look different. There is strong evidence that birds evolved from these small dinosaurs.
