I hope Ninja Gaiden 3 (best action game series I have ever played) will be awesome but with Itagaki gone it will be probably even more shallow than the Sigma versions of NGB and NG2.

Ninja Gaiden Black makes me sad because I think of how Ninja Gaiden 2 would have been better if it weren't for just a few, buggy things.

Anyways,

Aquaria - 4/5 (Great)
I'll warn you right now, the ending cutscene and beyond is ****, but damn the rest of the game is so amazingly awesome. A MASSIVE Metroidvania with shoot-em-up gameplay? Hell, I don't care if I'm playing as a fish-girl, this game has incredible moments and so much exploration. It starts slow (that's what throws people off), but once you start shooting things and leave the starting area, the game opens up to the true monster that it is. Tons and tons of content for a Metroidvania.

Cooking is the weakest link in all of this, but that doesn't really get in the way of things, so I'll let it slide.

So yeah, if you like games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid or Shadow Complex and can't find a good Metroidvania, play Aquaria.

Are you insane? With Itagaki gone, females might actually have tits smaller than their heads this time.

And don't be hatin on the Sigma series, the first Sigma was vastly improved over Black, even if the Rachel sequences were a little meh.

Can't comment on Sigma 2 as I haven't played it, but from what I understand is they fixed the framerate issues.

NG2 was way more enjoyable than NGB...

Itagaki was the one in charge at making the original versions of both NGB and 2. That's a big difference than re-taking the game and simply add-remove-change stuff. And I'm honest, I didn't even care that much about the boobs (Sigma 2 was definitely worse on this).

After Sigma 2 which ended up being awful in comparison to the original version on the X360 (female characters were not fun to play as, memorable level sections removed, purple mist replacing gore and most of all, terrible gameplay changes), I don't have much faith anymore - especially after they said that NG3 will be more "accessible" to players. It was already accessible enough.

Eh, NG2 was enjoyable (never played NG/NGB), but I wouldn't put it or the series on any best of list. Any game that uses button combos cannot qualify as a top quality action game in my book.

Had I just played NGII I wouldn't put the series on any list either, except maybe on a "most disappointing sequel" list.
NGB is where it's at.

especially after they said that NG3 will be more "accessible" to players. It was already accessible enough.
Really? Because I feel like if I hadn't played NGB (beat Master Ninja) before I would have found NGII to be even more frustrating than I did.
Nothing wrong with guiding new players into the game a little better than throwing them into a fight with ten or so regularly strong enemies before even telling them how they can attack. Granted there is an easy difficulty where everyone can spam their way through the game but accessibility was really not one of the strong points of NGII.
I don't see improving on that as bad (yet). It's all a matter of degree, of course, and if "accessibility" is really just a euphemism for making the game both easy and spammable that's bad, obviously.
If NGII was accessible already I would be more suspicious but right now this still sounds like learning from NGII's mistakes to me and not necessarily like marketing lingo for dumbing the game down.

NG2 can only be defined hard/frustrating - aside the stupid cameras - from Mentor mode only. Acolyte mod is extremely easy, and Warrior mode was balanced enough.
From Mentor mode, goddamn, but not impossible at all. Completing MN mode was extremely satisfying too but **** that afterwards.
It's not like I found NGB hard either, the harder difficulties are the real deal. So yeah, that's why "being more accessible" worries me - I mean, are they going to modify the gameplay system? Or just another Easy Easy difficulty (which would be the best choice at this point)? It could mean everything.

And yes, I believe NG2's gameplay was much more fun to play than Black, and doesn't have many terrible bosses (plus a final one that isn't extremely disappointing).

Ninja Gaiden Black felt a lot more polished and fair, where the sequel crossed the border of hard-but-fair and just felt cheap sometimes. I will admit, however, that NG2 had a much better selection of weapons (****ing Kusari-gama).

Pick your poison I guess.

Also Fallout: New Vegas is fun....

I'm gonna take you for a ride

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - mo'****ing awesome / 10

A lot of review sites are bitching about lack of content in MvC3; lack of game modes beyond versus, arcade and missions. I say to that: who the **** cares?

I was worried this game wouldn't be ridiculously over-the-top with its combos and flashy moves, and I can safely say my fears are unwarranted. Over-the-top doesn't begin to describe how insane this game is.

And Dante is ****ing awesome. Along with pretty much the entirety of the cast. It's nice to see that the game isn't as horribly imbalanced as 2 was (well, guess we'll see what tiers look like soon enough).

Heck yeah man. The only good thing i got out of my free copy of Quake 4 is that it came with Quake 2 and it's mission packs. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, 9/10

Only drawbacks were the (though obviously optional) fedex quests and gear system being a little uninteresting, even though it tries something new.
While I'm not a graphics whore, I am indeed a "holy **** these 2d sprites look fantastic" whore. I just hope we haven't seen the last of these type of visuals now that the 3ds and psp2 rolls in.

I clocked about 15 hours on my first playthrough, not counting deaths and lacking about 5% in secrets. After finishing the game you unlock hardmode and a new character which is pretty sweet replay incentive.

I agree though, the game was, as I would put it, very polished. I like most of the things they did with it, but I'm not too big of a fan of the magic and combat system.

I was trying to make a difference between 'technical graphics' and a well developed visual style with artistic merit. I feel post-SotN castlevanias are about as good as it gets when it comes to 2d visuals, and they have that little bit of magic to them that I don't get from most 3d games, regardless of specs.

I suppose I'm an arts whore. Where's my hipster scarf.

And yeah the magic/items system. I was keen about it at first, but it just felt a bit odd casting "archery spells" and "sword spells", and combining them wasn't as fleshed out as I had hoped. I found a couple of interesting ones, but nowhere near the amount they could have potentially done.

One thing I liked about OoE is that it didn't have crappy anime-like art for characters and so. Plus, I really like the playable characters in it.

Glad to see some OoE lovers here

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia - 9.5/10
Unlike previous Metroidvanias, this one was very linear, and some of the levels were cut and paste jobs of earlier levels in the game. But it was a nice change from having a 10 hour romp through the castle. Now its a 5'ish hour romp through mountains, swamps, a cave or two and some manors, followed by another 3 or so hours of castle. It was pretty good fun and could be the closest thing to Symphony of the Night since Dawn of Sorrow.

From my own take of the game. Kinda skimped on some details but meh I suck at reviews. I did like that it was much more of a challenge compared to earlier games in the series. Even when you over leveled a boss could still wipe you across the floor in no time. Also did anyone feel that Dracula was a tad bit easy, especially when you glitched him out with that wing power. *You could put him into that upper cut animation pretty much every time.

*Can't remember how that attack went as its been a while since I played. Basically he would do an air move and it hurt pretty bad if it hit.
