To expand on the point, polling data suggested a dead heat in Colorado in 2000, Bush ended up winning by 9%.
Something I saw early yesterday or the day before (possibly polling data) also suggested Kerry would take Ohio.
I still think it should be the popular vote and just leave it at that. So, in my mind, Gore won 4 years ago and Bush won last night. Doesn't look like Kerry has enough in Ohio anyway. I'm just glad it's not Florida.

Bush has 136,000 popular vote lead in Ohio.
They have 135,000 provisional and other votes to count.
Kerry would have to get 100% of those votes to even contest Ohio, because Bush's lead is a little too high there. It's statistically impossible for Kerry to win Ohio.

There are other ballot numbers still to be submitted. But the big Democratic strongholds in Cuyahoga and Hamilton counties have already submitted their provisionals. So I can't imagine there being any more than 175,000 provisional ballots to count. And even if some 90% of those are validated, Kerry would still need 86% of the vote. Provisionals won't be counted for the 10-day period they use to validate voters, but once the actual number of ballots are in, I'm sure Kerry will use statistics and some of that "statial logic" and determine the lead is what our attention-whore Scretary of State Blackwell likes to describe as "statistically insurmountable".
I have exactly one thing to gloat about on this day of a somewhat-victory for Bush.
