ah ... the age-old question : how much SF is needed for a series to become a SF-series ;)

The occult does exist IRL, so a show/series about the occult need not be a complete fantasy.

Heard good things about Babylon 5, but only watched an episode or two so I haven't really given myself a chance to get back into it.

One of Bab5's few flaws is that it's dfifficult to get into by the very fact that the whole thing is a 5 year story arc. So if you show up halfway through, then you're not going to get the whole story (litteraly).

I'd track down the feature-length pilot ("The Gathering"), it's a pretty good intro into the series, and it even includes a few start-points for the arc storylines (although you don't miss a lot if you don't see the pilot).

The first series is a little quiet compared to the rest, because it's mainly setting the stage for the events of the other series, although it does have a number of episodes that are very important to the arc stories. It also helps develop the characters (the depth of the character development is a massive part of the series, and is one of it's best features IMO).

Series 2 onwards is where Bab5 starts to heat up, and in Series 3 onwards it's firing on all cylinders.

Spaceballs! \o/

I'd have to go with Star Trek TNG and X-Files. Red Dwarf is brilliant sometimes too. B5 was really good but their budget really hurt the shows and changing everybody up in the later episodes also didn't do well for the series. All of the other shows listed I've seen at least an episode of (probably) but never really cared for them or got into them.

Now someone please give me a few cameras, some comps, actors, and money so I can go make my own series. If I had the time to sit down and write and were talented enough at it I'd go create that whole series I made up in my head while sitting on the school bus for 12 years looking out the windows because I was bored being there for 42 minutes each trip.

I kind of wondered ... is that a real tv-series or just a few movies ?
AFAIK there are two versions of Alien Nation. In one the 'human' detective is played by an old guy instead of that Mel Gibson-wannabe in the series.
Definitely an interesting if sometimes a little 'soft' show.
It was a motion picture, then a tv series on Fox (take a guess how long it lasted there) and then a series of tv movies.
