I must really be behind... 6 core processors?

Anyway... quick glancing around brought that good old "you get what you pay for" saying into my head. I see this 6 core processor you have picked out for 100 some dollars... and I look at one of intel's 6 core processors for $880... ummm, huh? Might I advise not going for bragging rights here and getting a quad with higher clock speed and bigger cache? It's still hard to find applications that utilize four cores... where did 6 come from?

I also agree with Dev on the video card. Being that you're on a tight budget you have to look for a nice balance. Right now I'd say that video card is a major bottleneck in that setup. Either pony up a tiny bit more or sacrifice a little bit somewhere else for a nicer card.

My buddies at work and I were just talking about the 6 cores from AMD today. They're saying that they are, for lack of a better word, crap. The quad-core i7's outperform them.

And if you want a machine that doesn't chug while playing newer games, do what Boney says and spend a good chunk of your budget on the graphics card. That's what I did.

New Comp build started...

Just ordered an Intel I7 875K processor and a Corsair Obsidian 800D case

OMG, The Corsair Obsidian 800D is one Sweet Case.

Three Isolated Cooling Zones
The power supply compartment, main compartment and the SATA bays each have dedicated cooling subsystems to prevent heat buildup.

A dust-filtered 140mm fan draws in cold air at the bottom of the case and exhausts it at the rear and top. This clever design forces fresh air directly over the graphics card and CPU. The SATA hot-swap bays are cooled by a separate 140mm fan which vents from the case via a sealed chamber and prevents the heat generated by the drives from entering the main compartment. The power supply compartment has its own dedicated intake and exhaust, also isolated from the main compartment.

Need even more cooling performance? The Obsidian Series 800D has pre-drilled support for top-mounted single, dual, and triple radiators, or up to three additional 120mm fans.

That's some nice Cooling Capability! The insides look great and should be excellent for wiring.

The Window looks a little big, not sure why you want to see the Power Supply Area.

Take your time on this build and by all means share some pictures with us.. We want to see your build progress and how it looks when your done..

Don't worry Taz :) I will. Besides, given my salary, I will have to buy the parts a few at the time. Case isn't here yet. Probably tomorrow. Next up Mobo.

Oh yeah, i looked around, I can buy solid panels if I either want a new window or just a solid looking case :)

I would go solid if your not water cooling or putting on any kind of light show.
Windows are nice but you have to keep the insides extra clean any little dust is noticeable..

Killing time at work I was just looking stuff up. I'd say the Core i5 750 is a really good budget processor. It almost performs as good as my i7, but for only $200. I'd say an $800 system built properly could run at least the next generation of games before it would need a beefier graphics card.

I was looking at benchmark charts for CPUs and most of them had at least 10 or 12 intel chips on top before AMD even entered the picture  And the processor I got at least a year and a half ago is still in the top 10 :) I think the one Dev is getting is up in the top 5.
