Ice, have you tried reformatting and using just one HD? Make sure you D/L all updated drivers. Start with your Motherboard Drivers, Graphics and make sure it runs with that. Then start adding hardware and checking.

The computer runs fine, just not when playing games. That's one of the reasons I think the video card is a factor here, though I have no clue how the sata controller fits into that. I'm wondering if there are some settings I need to tweek in the device manager--like I had to when I installed a new DVD burner in order to get it to burn at its max speed.

I don't have the time or patience to do a clean install of everything if it's not going to be on a new computer, especially so close to my (hopefully) building a new one.

Sounds to me like your file system is just a wreck. When was the last time you cleaned out some garbage? When was the last defrag? And yes, when was the last time you updated some drivers? And dust it out while you're at it :p

I'm having some trouble with partitioning some unallocated space on a hard drive. The Seagate Disc Wizard won't let me allocate the space since it is on the boot HDD. Windows disk management will let me do it, but it will only let me select primary partition. My question is: will that pose a problem? I already have a primary partition for windows, and two logical partitions as well. It looks like the logical partitions were bundled into an extended partition, which I guess might be the standard way it is done, leaving me no ability to add another logical partition, since windows only allows one extended partition, and by making a new logical partition, it can't create a second extended partition? Maybe I should just get partition magic and increase the size of the current logical partitions.... Hrmph!

Like you said... With 'Partition Magic' you can add new primary partition then extended and logical - feel free. There is no differences when you have one or more primary partitions. Only one can be active.

Use bootable backup. If you need, you can fully restore system in 15 min. All personal data stay the same...
...
Anyone know if they can have issues communicating with video cards?
...
No relations...
But i can bet - you have problem with power supply. NEED MORE POWER!

I don't see the problem Ice. My C: and F: partitions on the primary HD are Primary partitions. Both J: and K: on the second drive are Primary partitions as well.

Granted it is always better to do this on a clean HD. Why don't you just get an external for temporary use or wait til you upgrade? I carefully plan how big I'm going to make each partition.

I'm almost out of room on my music partition. But I'm not going to mess with it at the moment. Planning on getting an SSD sometime in the future and doing a complete rebuild. I like keeping things tidy. Haven't had virus problems for quite a long time. ;)

Yeah, I forgot about making a primary partition active. I carefully plan on the size I want for my partitions as well, so the only reason I ran into this problem is because I ghosted my old HDD onto the new one, but I didn't want to allocate all the space on the new drive into the three partitions I was ghosting. There's no sense getting an external drive when I have about 250gb unallocated on the HDD. Anyway, I guess that will make my partitions on the drive look like this: C: - primary, D: and E: logical in an extended partition, and F: (and maybe a G: as well) - primary.

Anyway, thanks for the help. I was just a bit concerned on allocating the leftover space into a primary partition because in its infinite wisdom, Win-Doze informs you that a primary partition is used for booting up, but it doesn't mention its fine for using it as storage as well. I was also tired, like now, so I wasn't thinking straght (like now).

Don't understand why so many partitions on one Hard Drive. Is this the new 4TB Hard Drive if so I can understand breaking it down some.
What happens after you use up all the alphabet letters does it go to Roma Numerals? Got my MP3's on XXIV!!!!:lol:

The beast unpacked.
Edit: BTW this case is HUGE!!! Lots of room in it. Will seriously consider water cooling in the future.

Installed the CPU and A70 heatsink. The iheatsink install went without a hitch. except it would have been nice to know to screw on the plate to the heatsink before applying the thermal paste but not that much of a deal. Applied a pea size amount of paste on the CPU and added some to the heatsink which I spread out using an ID card to fill the gaps between the heat spreaders and the base plate.

Alright added the RAM and the 2 fans on the heatsink. Good thing I didn't go for RAM with giant heat spreaders because the clearance between the heatsink fan and the ram is pretty limited. On the second pic the Mobo is installed, shows just how roomy the case is.

Holy Hell Dev!, That's one huge Heat Sink. It's received good reviews and having direct contact heatpipes seems pretty cool. Now will the side panel close? LOL.. Have to start calling Corsair Man!! Nice Gear Bro.. What Graphic Card will you be looking at down the road..
