It's either got to be fixed or removed... There was someone on earlier using the PSG1 very effectively in CQB! reminded me of SF v1.55

Mmmm... zen....
I can picture it now -

'PSG1 Spear-Chucking Experience'

-Enter two soldiers from opposite sides. One carrying P90, the other a PSG1. P90 soldier readies to fire only to find the sniper rifle hurtling towards his head. The sharp, pointy, thin gun pokes his eye out and he collapses in pain.'

The End. :D

And THAT is why a PSG with a bayonet on it isn't that bad an idea. :D

And what's so inherently bad about being able to hit something at point blank, even with a sniper rifle?

PSG will kill in two shots on average, with 1 or 3 shots in extreme cases.

Perfect!

Anyone who's played SF v1.55 should know what I'm talking about... They completely removed all ROF restrictions on semi auto weapons, the PSG1 did 130 damage, and you could bind the trigger to mousewheel      Which effectively made the PSG1 a hand portable HMG with a 2000 rpm cyclic rate. [edit] forgot about the bug which allowed instant reloads, and the ability to carry a dozen magazines.

'Luckily' Yurch's goof up just make it a semi auto robar... :hmm:

Well, I have a bit of a problem here -
In order to make the damages the way I want it, I have to wildly fluctuate the amount of damage done.
And we all know, some things shouldn't be purely by chance... especially not something as core to gameplay as damage.
Lemme know what you think, I'm somewhat torn on this one.

I guess it wouldn't work to have two calcs? Grab a random int 0-9, if it's below 6, do x damage. If it's >= 6, call random damage function, that way it's more heavily weighted towards default damage. could play with the above number to change it up a little.

Well, basically it depends on where you hit, so in a controlled environment, it's really not random at all. However, combat is hardly a controlled environment, the targets are often moving, and people are often firing from crappy unstable positions (sometimes even on the move) so unless one were to completely model the flightpath and figure out exactly where the impact is, then accurately model the effects of said impact (did you get a CNS hit? a lung hit? any arteries?) etc, random probably isn't a bad way to do it. I'm sure most players wouldn't really notice the difference between a really accurately done damage system and a random one ;)

I liked the way it was for the PSG because a 7.62x51mm bullet will definately mess you up if you are hit by it, and it didn't ALWAYS kill in one shot, just if you were hit squarely. If i hit the edge of the player they still required a second shot, which seemed very realistic to me. If i shoot you squarely in the chest with a 7.62x51mm bullet i will almost definately put you down, and there are plenty of vital organs to puncture in the upper part of your chest. Besides, the robar still had a better zoom, and one shot kill no matter where you hit the guy.

- Well, as the exemplary of everything a sniper is not I'd still tend to agree... :D

I like shadowkil's idea for the random damage as well... maybe for the PSG 100 +/- random 1-20?
