I heard that you're definitely not a one-trick pony in bed, if that makes you feel any better.

On a serious matter, how much more can you do for the UT engine (besides being a limited technology demonstrator for future Unreal engine builds) and do you like tinkering with other games yurch?

Unreal engines certainly are some of the easier ones to mess with (while still remaining powerful) as far as I've seen. The UT engine seems to be quite inefficient when a game like inf puts a strain on it, but you can probably put the same non-graphical non-physics features in UT or UT2k4. They're structured a bit different, so convinience is a factor of course.

Everyone's got thier own pet graphical feature they love... mine is motion. Physics, particle effects and animations are becoming a necesity for me nowadays.
And a framerate past 20.

Messing with HL2 was an eye-opener, they do similar things in very different fashions, and it's quite possible an "easy" feature in unreal will be quite difficult in HL2 - or vice versa. HL2 is far more complicated and intimidating as well. However, it has a stronger ability to change netcode. In UT you're stuck with anything that's already replicated - you cannot change/remove the replication variables of an existing class, only add, which can become bloated. Especially if you're modding a mod, but you won't be doing that in HL2 anyway.

Biggest problem with HL2 for me, is that it seems nobody here is interested in it.

Oh, and STO$%#!@R%<M11!

This is a wrong assumption - majority of all German INF players I'm in touch with, bought and played HL2 and were eagerly waiting what you/Sentry could do to it.

It's like always: those unhappy with a decision cry the loudest... and Mac/Linux users beeing 'kicked out' was an obvious reason...

Exactly the same here. Without SS's announcement that they were moving to HL2, I probably wouldn't have bothered to buy the game, or would have picked it way later in the bargain bin. And going through HL2 single player with iron sights has been a very good experience :)

Ugh, there isn't much that can be done with 2.9 either way. I'd rather take on yurch and pursue other projects than try to resurrect a mod thats well...dead.
It's not dead! I am looking at the server browser right now... 21 INF players online. That's not bad at all IMO, especially for a tuesday.

Also, more people still play UT than UT2k4. Lots of players out there to attract still.

It's undead. Last night I was playing alone with a bot when suddenly the clock struck midnight and an Owl flew down from the skies and onto the server. So we started chatting, cause I talk to animals... After but a few minutes, from out of nowhere zombies crawled out of the ground and soon filled the server with their violent cravings for BLOOD! It was fun :)

What is this thread about? Oh, Yurch's antics. Hi Yurch, your antics are nice! You need a marketing manager to help create some buzz for your projects :p

Nonsense, gamespy's reporting almost 3x the number playing UT2k4.

It really is new engine or die time, at least if we want to keep a playerbase beyond the extremely dedicated.

Be careful where you get your numbers. I am more enclined to believe csports.net than gamespy. I don't have any hard evidence as to which is more accurate tho.

Gamespy seems to miss a lot of servers, Red Orchestra doesn't even appear on their list for UT2k4. Csports doesn't miss anything tho. It even tracks lowly me when I play INF, although it doesn't know what to do with EAS (no score and all..).

I'm just dropping in to give a big thank you to Yurch; it seems like an important moment to do so. Yurch, judging from your work that I've been privelaged enough to experience, I feel you're an amazingly resourceful and hardworking person. Thank you so much for everything you've done for this community - you've contributed an amazing amount of brilliant material that I know has been the main reason that I am still playing Inf after so many years, and I think there are a lot of other players for whom that's also true. I value your judgement and ideas above anyone else's in this community, but I know you and anyone else who works on this mod, rarely get the credit you deserve - I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever said thank you to anyone here. I'm sorry about that, and I hope that the community, which everyone should remember has its strengths as well as its weaknesses, isn't driving anyone away from developing Inf. Thank you Yurch, and everyone else who has developed for Inf. I harbor the selfish hope that you'll keep doing great work here or in some similar project.

Also, where can I get your IS mod for HL2 (just started the sp campaign today)?

Lol, just realized that my name isn't even spelled correctly. How terribly like me. Please forgive any other grave errors I made in this post.

You can probably ask one of the administrators (not moderators) to fix the spelling.

The hl2 irons 'thing' can be found here, although at this point I'd describe it as 'terrible'. I'd recommend playing through the game normally first.

IAMP, if it ever happens, will be far more refined. I haven't updated IASP in a long time, wonder if it even works with the latest steam...
