For edhe, from left to right: The Unstoppable Juggernaut (invincible in his armor), some Asian guy (power probably involves martial arts), Magneto (control over metal), some metro-sexual guy (probably hair mousse +5), Callisto (don't know), what I'm assuming is a chick (cross-dressing +2 maybe?), Pyro (control over fire), and Phoenix (greater psycho-kinetic powers than Jean Gray (or Xavier even). Also, Jean wouldn't be siding with Magneto, so it has to be the Phoenix persona).

Isn't Phoenix and Jean Gray the same person? :con:

Yes, Jean evolves into Phoenix, but she only gains greater powers, iirc. I could be wrong though.

Actually as I recall, Phoenix is another entity entirely, that is using Jean Grey's body. Although the person who mentioned the Phoenix persona presumably meant just that, that it was a different persona, which would obviously be the same body still.

Hence: 'isn't Phoenix and Jean Grey the same person?' is a pointless question.

But, in the latest magazines I have, Phoenix is on the good guys(X-men) side and is reffered to as both Jean and Phoenix.
In this upcoming movie, she seems to be on the bad guys(Magneto) side.
Do their "wills" co-exist in the same body? Who is in control? I'm totally lost here...

To be honest it's been a long time since I got any of the comicbooks...All I remember is that there was one storyline where the Phoenix was killed but Jean Grey wasn't. Although I suppose it's possible that actually it later turned out that Phoenix was a part of Jean Grey and they just thought it had died.

Trying to work out the X-men history is bloody confusing.

That sounds like it could be correct.
Jean Grey becomes Phoenix(who is evil), Phoenix dies, Jean comes back and gets to keep Phoenix's powers. :)

I'd ask Wolverine to expound on the differences between Jean and Phoenix but he's still crawling 4 miles to find where Hulk threw his legs.

No Nightcrawler = teh suck
Frasier Beast = teh win
Early rumors of the storyline I've read = not promising
I hope they prove me wrong.

Here's what i remeber about Pheonix:

In the late 1970's, Jean Grey tried to pilot a space shuttle to earth and it crashed in Jamaica Bay. Everyone thought she died but she emerged as Phoenix, more powerful and with a darker side. It was assumed that the cosmic rays that gave a lot of Marvel heroes their powers did something to her.

In 1980 or so, Phoenix lost control of her powers and committed suicide (the "Dark Phoenix Saga"). That was that.

Or so we thought. In 1986, the Fantastic Four found a pod beneath Jamaica Bay that turned out to be Jean. Turns out, Phoenix was just some cosmic force thingy that impersonated her and locked her down there when the shuttle crashed! Whew! X-Factor was then formed from the 5 original X-Men, and Jean was just "regular Jean" again and never really was Phoenix in the first place.

And that was that. Well, except for the other Phoenix, Rachel Summers, the daughter of Jean and Cyclops from the future.

Heh - i haven't read the X-Men in a while, so who knows where this has all gone in the last 10 years.

^ it doesn't matter cause the movies have a completely different story, only thing they kept are the characters. i mean honestly the blackbird doesn't come out of the pool, it comes out of the basket court!!!!!!

Makes sense to me. I was trapped under the ocean for almost ten years with no food or water and I felt fine after.

This is historically regarded as one of the worst not-really-dead rewrites in the history of comic books. My personal least favorite is the snowjob they did to bring back Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern. That's in some other thread and I'm not going to derail the topic by going into THAT again.

But yeah, the movies only loosely follow some of the storylines that flow through the comics.

You think THAT'S cross dressing? Oh the naivity...

...on the other hand that does indeed look bra-like...
I know it's not full-on drag (hence only a +2), but that is a bra, under tight mesh, under a woman's-cut jacket, over pants showing way too much skin below the navel to be meant for a man. Kinda looks like Joaquin Phoenix, too.

I found Callisto's mutant ability, by the way: Enhanced tracking senses and fighting skills. How that will be portrayed in the movie, I don't know.

Thanks for the info guys. I admit I still have my collection from back in the day. I think i lost interest around 1995 when things went wierd...again. I just dont remember the details about every character.

I would imagine that some characters will come and go while others will stay as a big part of main xmen team. Although there are many characters that I would love to see in an xmen film I dont think having them all in one film would be very interesting. It would change the films dynamic all together. Hopefully there will be many more movies to come.

I am still looking forward to the Magneto movie... and I though I heard something about a wolverine movie? Wasn't brian singer going to head one of these movies?
