UT3 Patch 3 In The Works, Features Slowly Being Revealed

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

* Why is the /demo/ folder only scanned at startup? If I start UT3, then minimize it and put new demos in the /demos/ folder, and then go back into UT3, they're not listed
* Why, when trying to play a demo, does UT3 not check my /cache/ folder for packages that are required but not installed?
* Why, when playing back a demo, does the weapon shown for the player I am viewing not match the weapon they are actually using (rocket launcher firing TL disc, etc)
* Why, when I am watching a demo and the guy who I am watching is killed, am I occasionally left looking at the area where they were killed rather than shown them respawning and going about the map?

OH OH, I just remembered, please fix the bug where, when you die, you can respawn. It's as if you're in flyby mode and can't get back in the match. Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but it's bug that happens often for me.
Thank You!

Also, you only need to tweak your ini files once. Not constantly. You can never expose all things you want to edit in a user interface. It's an information overload, the vast majority only needs to change a few settings, these settings should be exposed in the UI. A game is not an so-called "expert system", so it shouldn't behave like it. It will only confuse the majority of the users.

Ok, I agree with that. But what was so wrong on UT2004 UI that they took such a big step back? I modified inis in UT2k4 a lot, but never because of servers. I used Favorites for 99% of games and I was never good competitive player. UI of UT3 maybe doesn't confuse users, actually it makes them experts in UI usage, because it forces them to use it much much more than needed (forgetting settings for Instant action for isntance). Anyway "add server" in Favorites wouldn't be so confusing, would it? :)

I mean - if you like the game and you play competitively you probably can get through the UI, but it really doesn't help you to get where you want. I'm curious about changes coming with patch 3. Then - hopefully - half of this discussion will be pointless. :)

I basically been finding the game unstable in Nvidia (yes with the latest drivers) and XP.

Apart from that I really would like to see the custom content moved off the system HD (My games) and back into the UT3 folder on whatever drive that is located on.

It seems like this bug was introduced with patch 1.2 ... I don't recall seeing this problem before that. Does anyone else? I think I would remember something like that.
I've noticed it since the initial release, made a thread about it and I was surprised the two patches later, it's still there.

Maybe patch #3 will be the one to finally fix it. If not... that's really pathetic and totally negates any reason to use any model besides Demo Guy.

I installed all the custom content I have into the program files directories...

So you mean adapting a product to the ignorant minority is good bizniz? ^^

It wouldn't be a minority if the game was actually fun to play ... ;)
And I seriously think you underestimate the lack of technical know-how the average computer-user has.
I've met and seen plenty of people that think that 'Office' = their OS.
It's the same kind that think all mp3-players are iPods and all GPS's are TomToms ...

There's only one thing worse than a stupid user ...
and that's an expert who doesn't even realise that he isn't one.

And if you don't believe that ... then answer me this :
why is Windows more popular than Linux, even though the latter has infinitely more options ?

Leth, use the keypad for everything :] So then you can say, "I use 8456" when people ask for your movement keys.

If you count them, the numpad setup has immediate access to about the same number of keys (less actually) as the arrow keys, and both are way less than something like wasd, esdf, or ijkl :(

It does?

With 8456 within one key reach you have: 791230.+-*/= plus grey enter and numlock, and if you're using your right hand, your thumb can also reach -> and you can also reach page up and page down with your index finger.

With the arrows you can reach 0 and Ctrl easily, and Alt . 1 2 3 if you really stretch out your fingers uncomfortably.

No, I'm a very average computer-user myself. ^^ But sometimes less is just.. less. Discovering new features and tweaks helps keeping up the interest for the game and makes it live much longer then a shallow click-and-play game.
