I'm probably in the minority (as usual) but maps like Dasa Cellars and Nali Castle are still some of my favorites. I actually like getting lost and having to wander around the map trying to figure out where I'm going next. It gives me a better sense of place and a deeper feeling of immersion, since I actually have to pay attention to my surroundings and remember where I've been and wehre I haven't.

That's why I love the Stalker series. Only other game that's been able to do that to me. Finding a place to settle down as the sun sets, especially before I get nightvision. Listening for Bandits or dogs and hoping they don't find my hiding place...

...

Some revolutionary things that I haven't seen all that much since. You could aim at a Skaarj with the Rifle and he'd dodge before you could shoot. Dodging fire was almost un heard of, and these guys were dodging line of sight!

Unreal finally made me start strafing.

The dark fantasy / gothic feel combined with the Alien-esque sci-fi has influenced my art and aesthetic ever since, and the Mothership is still creepy, despite what 2k4 did to it.

I could slap myself now. Dasa cellars is also one of my favourites. Simple because of the amount of krall you can frag. There are three waves. The first one is in the stone titan room (just let big T smack the crap out of them), the second near the flak cannon (incredibly fun), and the last near the end (it's thight, but there's room to escape them though).

Dasa pass is one of those quick maps. I mean, same as "naliboat" is to "nalicastle" and "sacred passage" to "chizra nali water god". It really is an annoying map, and I'm glad the "extension" of it so enjoyable.

Dasa Pass is my least favourite map. Just a lazy long pathway with some weak Krall and many levers. The storage area at the beginning was nice with the Skaarj's ambushes.

Dasa Cellars, on the other hand, is the sh1t. Still the most entertaining SP map to date.

WAR-Hostile from the Titan Pack feels great. A lot like Unreal.

That's true, yet Valarna still does a better job of catching the mood... Morbias with Unreal sounds is also quite nostalgic.

Is there a remake of DmTundra? That was my first played map, and it was awesome! Even despite bad pathing! Especially the ice cave visuals were neat, and that skating on ice.

I certainly like both maps. I just think Hostile does a better job of capturing what Unreal could be like in UE3 (obviously).

As far as Tundra, that was also my favorite DM map in Unreal, but I've yet to see an actually good port of it. There are a few maps in Unreal that could have used ports, but I've not seen an good ones (Radikus anyone?).

Yeah Tundra was fun, bit thight though. Also my favourite mp map. Deathfan was hilarious (as a spectator), Fith was a good find.

As for custom mp levels I'd go for dmstrictlydiesel, Dmterroristremix, Dmdowntown, Dmmeldrak iirc, dmunreality etc. (But I preferred playing that one in UT)

You just piqued my interest in Stalker
Unreal finally made me start strafing.
Good point! I don't think I started dodging until Unreal also.

It's only funny cause it's true :(

Sadly, yes! :\ :p

Well, I've always enjoyed games that allow you to explore at a slow pace. It took me forever to beat Far Cry because I loved sneaking around picking off baddies for super far, (and normally inaccessible) locations. I found a way to get to the top of almost every mountain in that game.

I think Stalker would be my type of game though if it plays how you suggest. Besides, what does it cost now? $20? Even if I don't like it, it's not like I blew my money on a full price game.

You see, this is why most modern gamers are idiots/trolls, and I'm not saying that because I love Unreal. You can give them a genuinely good game made in the 1990s (Like Perfect Dark) and they'll say it sucks because of the graphics and then run off to play Halo 3.

EDIT: Actually, I realize that you were just trolling, so I probably should have just not responded to your post. Oh well.

You are calling me a modern gamer? Dude...dont open your mouth unless you know what you are talking about...Im 25 and have been playing video games since the NES. Some of my all time favorite games would have to be Super Metroid, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger...both on the SNES. Which doesnt have "blow your face away graphics".

I dont play games for graphics...I play them for story. If I played a game for its graphics I would be praising RE5 but Im not...I actually dont like that game at all. I also dont own an Xbox so I dont play Halo (dont like the game either). So dude.....dont talk **** unless you got some cred to back it up. There are TONS of games from all throughout the 90's that I LOVE. Like I said...a majority of my favorite games are from 90's so dont EVER EVER! ****in say I like a game for its graphics and call me a "modern gamer"...if you were here I would bitch slap the **** out of you.

And no...I wasnt trolling...I was stating a fact that from the trailer there was nothing in it that grabbed me whatsoever. If it was 1998 and I saw this I still wouldnt be grabbed by it. There is NOTHING in that trailer that shows any kind of story or anything.

Thank goodness we can have an argument without resorting to superfluous swearing. Quaglax, has it occurred to you that your posts can come across as trolling if you use that kind of language? Looking at that post that instigated KillerSkaarj's reply surely you could see how it can come across as inflammatory/derogatory?

I love Unreal1 because the story of the game was largely embedded in all the little notepads that let you discover what happened, or you could ignore those and just have an awesome journey through a fantasy world. Can't believe it's been 11 years already.

Way to sound mature... calm down, dude, how was I supposed to know you liked games for story and not graphics? Your post seemed to say otherwise. Unreal has great story and you bashed it for its graphics. What was I supposed to think?

And Quaglax goes bat**** insane again.

Err, how do you suppose they would fit a story to a trailer?.. Besides, the trailer is from Beta times, they probably weren't sure about the story then.

It was probably the last beta of the game. Or one of the lasts.
