Evil?

Bad for you, perhaps. But not evil.

Look. You can choose to eat that food or not. Everyone in the world knows that certain foods are better for you than others. These people happen to have brands of food that are not particularly healthy in large doses, but eaten sparingly are perfectly fine. They have every right to promote their product. You have every right to not eat it, or at least be intelligent enough to maintain a proper diet.

And, sorry, but that Global Warming is a bunch of crap. The climate is indeed changing, but guess what? It has changed dramatically over the course of history many times. You think dinosaurs drove around automobiles? Yet the ice-age was a considerable change in climate, was it not?

A powerful volcano, for instance, spews far more into the air than any auto could ever hope to.

I'm sorry, but I get so irritated with corporations being called evil. I truly believe that people should be vigilant and fight fraud and deceit. I think that's a good thing. But sometimes it gets taken too far.

You can't use junk science first of all. And this eternal fight to remove responsibility from the individual is truly a dangerous thing. McDonald's makes your kids fat. BS. YOU make your kids fat. You control their diet. You control your own diet. Educate yourself and be responsible. And let's not kid ourselves... is there really anyone in the world that believes that a steady diet of pre-prepared food is a healthy way to live?

And then you have the stories of Coke's ties to organized crime and how they outright stole their design ideas--a secondary result being that they may no longer even own the rights to the design of the original coke bottle.

It's a problem that the mentioned companies tend to do things unethically in some peoples eyes. You can just as well add the majority of the pharmaceutical companies to the list of 'evil' companies. The point is that at least the companies do try to do something for the people. Imagine the loss of work if all evil companies go bankrupt...

Actually the global warming is an issue, but it's totally irrelevant to the discussion since it is not a process that's likely to stop, so it's something we have to cope with, and will cope with. People have lived in ice ages, people can live in hot ages.

I think because we are all consumers that companies have an obligation to be responsible for their actions, whether it's irresponsible ad campaigns that portray their slab of animal fat as healthy... or if they abuse workers in other countries to push their profit margins up...

it's wrong...

Global warming is not a bunch of crap. The flux of the earth's climate takes a long-ass time, and over the past century (and especially the past 20 years) it's changed fairly dramatically. Many alpine glaciers worldwide have retreated to less than half their former size or disappeared completely..... check this out: http://www.zamg.ac.at/ALP-IMP/downloads/session_haeberli.pdf

There was never an ice age during the time of the dinosaurs, it was one of the warmest periods in earth's history (and besides, we're talking about artificial warming here... how could automobiles and the production of greenhouse gases possibly cause cooling?)

Believe what you want to believe, go ahead and think you can't make a difference, but I'll be damned if I'm going to contribute to ****ing up the world for the future generations.

edit: ok so that came across as a little hostile. What I'm really trying to say is you're free to live how you wish; I don't consider it my place to force my opinions on other people. I think setting a good example is more effective anyways. I guess I'd call myself an 'environmental inactivist.' ;)

Pinecone, er.. how can they cause cooling? Easy. Melting the polar caps will lower the sea temp ultimately lowering the temp of our world... expect warmer summers, colder winters.

:)
