I dislike psychics in scifi simply because they are too overpowered and therefore quite predictable. I dunno, it's quite campy to me. There isn't a 'right' to be done with them.

Not to mention, living with a psychotic woman who knows the answer to "does this make me look fat?" before you open your mouth would quickly become unbearable, if not completely hazardous.

Also, what's with Whedon and overly skinny bitches in close combat?

I have an excuse. I'm still in bad shape after a lot of general anaesthesia.

Some fans asked Whedon why all his strongest and most powerful characters are female (Buffy/Willow/Charisma/Illyria/River). His response was along the lines of "because I like them". What's wrong with a chubby male sci-fi writer fantasizing about skinny mythical teenage goddesses/warriors?

Welcome to the suck

Snooze-fest. Either this adaptation does the series no justice or the series was in fact a bleeding pile of something awful. But the part where Malcolm kneels down with a pashmina or whatever the fuck on his head mumbling something about a plastic missile was alright. And how they kept the space sequences soundless was cool too. But that annoyingly ugly girl pretending to know how to fight was a resounding no.

Go see this movie. Twice.
Yeah, this coming from the guy who proclaimed Episode 3 to be Man's greatest movie achievement or some such nonsense--

Wake me up.. when this movie ends...

Remember kids - my opinion is law. Also, there is no such thing as 'exaggeration'.

I've said myself that George Lucas is an awful writer (countless times). However - as a film in that awful trilogy - it was god's gift to man.

As for hating 'Serenity' - I can only presume you prefer to be in the company of naked men.

Sirrah, I draw into question your sexual preference and that of your mother, and furthermore consider your mother's profession to be of dubious repute and the illegitimacy of your birth a matter of public record. You dull, witless prat.

No, I just don't think you possess even the faintest hint of intellectual capacity, and your comments justly reflect that.

I concur with the senator.
You my friends, need to read more.

I found it quite boring. It's probably one of those nostalgic things you need in order to appreciate it. And the acting wasn't anything to scream about either.

It's been almost a month since Serenity hit theatres across North America and a while since it premiered in Europe. As much as I would love for the series to survive, they are still $10,000,000 away from recouping their losses. Considering that ticket sales are dwindling and theatres are dropping Serenity from the marquee, I think it's over. I highly doubt the fans will be able to buy $10,000,000 worth of DVDs when it is released.

I wonder if Doom will even make it to half of it's $80 million budget. It's been 3 days, $15 million in sales, but terrible reviews. Stupid sells.

Ok, let's say by some great miracle of god, Europeans spend another 2 million dollars on Serenity tickets. That puts us 7 million dollars away from breaking even. 7 million / $20 Special Edition DVDs = 350,000 DVDs to be sold. Let's pretend Serenity won't be outsold by Garfield the Movie... They did terrible in DVD sales, reaching only 700,000. So that's twice the target number of DVDs required to break even, which puts Serenity at $7 million in the black. Hooray!

That's not very much of a return. Look at that Jodie Foster movie about the girl in the airplane. $44 million surplus and it's still in theatres. Darn that Jodie! How about making Serenity ][ with Jodie Foster as a new crew member? It would probably guarantee a Serenity ]|[ :)

I'm far, far from optimistic about this, but DVD sales for Serenity are what's going to make it if it makes it at all. The series DVDs have been wildly successful, and they are a far harder sell than a single movie. Expect them to rock the fuck off. It's happened before (Bourne Identity, most notably), and it's hardly improbable that it will happen here.

Movie started in Germany theaters 24th Nov. just saw it yesterday.

I gotta say I'm somehow disappointed after all this "AWESOME!!!" comments here - though my expectations were pretty high.

It's not that I regret paying to watch it, but I actually fail to see where it is "very realistic SciFi" or all so innovative. (Movies like Starwars, Alien were way more innovative at their time IMO)

All spaceships look crappy and fly like there was an atmosphere in space. Most guns look like 20th century stuff (those anti spaceship guns look like WW2  ) and the showdown is typical hollywood standard stuff that leaves a cheap aftertaste. (amputated nerv saving the main character while surviving a sword stab)

Maybe it was more fascinating if I watched Firefly before hand....
