I don't see anything wrong with taking whatever you want from the bible. Value and Quality are only ever determined by the usefulness of something, if that's all they find useful then whatever, take it and run. I bet plenty of god-believing people have had their beliefs evolve. The church just can't go around preaching that they change, it's bad form. You have to make a position and strictly defend it otherwise, most people aren't smart enough to see any value in a softer position.
I don't really have a problem with the hippocracy, it's just part of the message, that it doesn't make perfect sense. It's simple and it gives people hope. Whatever they do with it can get pretty annoying, but that doesn't mean it (religion) is wrong on its own.
