So you're saying the pause on landing and other movement differences from U2 are hard coded and can't be changed? Therefore, everyone should quit whining and this thread should be locked? Works for me.

Can I say though, and I'm not trying to flame FMI, that if this had been mentioned on the first page of this thread, it would have saved a lot of "F*** you!"-"No, f*** you!"-type posts.

probably native in u2xmp as well.
Ya sort of - it's not an actual pause, but the inability to dodge again for 0.x secs in the v2xxx engine... As far as i can remember... ;) Whereas with v3xxx it's an acual pause - i guess aimed at simulating someone bending their knees to land after a jump...

So the 3-4 threads and hundred-plus topics could have been avoided had someone simply said 'We can't do it, even if we wanted to.' from the outset. Awesome.

XMP and UTXMP movement is gay....same thing being said, sprint and double tap yet in both games (u2xmp and utxmp) i do it and well...i try again and my guy doesn't move side to side, he still running forward with his shoulder kinda move side to side (sometimes when i stand still and try it takes 3 taps before he dodges :/ ) seen a guy with perfect movement and i'm fed up with movement more then ever...if this game is till going in 10 years and i still got the same problem...well, i'll slam my head on a table untill blood gushes out and yell stupid movement untill morning. I wanna be fast damnit.

Sometimes I think they get a kick out of it. Ignorance != bliss in this instance! :)

Is that 'it's native and we havn't been able to work around it yet, but are still trying' or 'it's native and we have given up trying to fix the problem.' ?

I know what native means, but can't you just code your own jump movement and ignore the native code entirely?

Way late with this reply, but, yeah. Furthermore, surprise/sneak attacks were also nearly impossible. That is, unless you played against someone who didn't use behindview, and change their fov, and change their crosshairs to show enemy player names from halfway across the map.

EDIT: In response to the movement/pauses being "native", that's gotta be BS. Just look at some of the other 2k4 mods out there. Maybe FMI could try posting in their forums for how to fix it up.

What 2k4 mod have you seen where the movement has the right functionality to expose this problem?

Brizz has a point here...  Name me a total conversion where you can actually dodge... Apart from the obvious

The only way you can do it is to rewrite the engine slightly (as far as i comprehend/know how), which is near enough impossible without the source code and illegal (read terms and conditions of use from UT2004...) as they have not releaed the source for 2k4 as of yet...

They refused to even let the source out for U2XMP/2k3(v2xxx), so no further patches could be made :( c00nts
The only 3rd party (non paying) group to get the source code for an unreal series game is the UTPG for UT99... Who made patches 440 and 451 (correct me if i'm wrong ;))

You mean use a radar? Global ban ;) Bye bye

I guess the only thing to do in this case is to get used to the current movement, coz we're gonna have to live with it ;) Unless Epic has a change of heart :D Or FMI achieve the impossible (as likely as it may be :))

ugh, no, i mean what i said... Behindview/fov (more than 100)/crosshair-mod to show enemy names. Those three things (which are gone/limited now in utxmp) reduced the need for sudden movement a lot, because you could keep a better eye on the opponent who might be approaching from the distance or sneaking up behind you. Just face it, so much has changed besides the whole dodge/jump stuff that affects movement as a whole. We just gotta get used to it.

As for mods, I haven't played it for a long while, but I swear that Deathball had a lot of fluid dodging/jumping action.

U2xmp movement was a bit lethargic and laborous in some respects especially on larger maps. By utilizing combined movements this deficiency was over come by players.

U2xmp will always feel better than UTxmp for two reasons U2xmp was a refined product and secondly you had a year to get used to it. By moving it to a more progressive engine you should expect like changes. Balance between the player classes is really the main stay of the game. For the most part once that is evened out across the board every one should be happy no matter what speed your moving at, well within reason.

Sometimes you just have to accept your dealing with to different animals and all may not be able to be the same. If we wanted things to remain the same we could just continue to play u2xmp. I didn't like the feel of utxmp and my skill level droped, but I adapted and the more I played utxmp the less of a need I felt for my old friend u2xmp or want for that matter.

This is a strategic game, dumbing it down so to speak will only loose its core audience. Learning the basic moves in chess is relatively easy but mastering the game is a whole other story. The same holds true for xmp aquire deploy points, get some energy, steal some artifacts, and frag some peeps along the way, but as we all know that is just the beginning.

As stated earlier some good tutorials and some friendly advice will go a long way towards building the community. When it is fairly obvious your playing with a noob you dont have to decimate them, maybe it's a good time to explore other facets of your game play.

Demoralizing people their first time out is not a golden invitaion for them to come back for more. Everybody be a good sport, and long live xmp. I am happy that I have an opportunity to play the beta I was tired of waiting for it to be released expected bugs and all. Thanks FMI, good job.
