Very good points. I am VERY excited for Pariah, I think it will be an awesome game.Anuban said:I don't understand the comparisons to Unreal2 I have seen. This game is very very different from that game. Besides support for bump mapping and a different movement system and richer storyline (well so they say anyway) there are vehicles you can use in the sp campaign and this game has bot support out the box with the DM and CTF gametypes (yes these are old but they are still the best pure fun gametypes around that everyone can instantly enjoy and play without too much frustration ... good for getting better so you can play more advanced gametypes .. and just plain fun for the SP who doesn't play online).
Plus the weapon system is VERY VERY different (upgradeable). And the physics engine it uses is the Havok physics engine ... the best around that is pure software. So from my vantage point this is a very different game and one that should be much better than U2 ... which was too short but still fun. But the one thing I am curious about is if there are any 'cut scenes' that use advanced graphics (CGI) or like U2 which just used the U2 engine for it's 'cut scenes'. If someone knows the answer to that I would be interested in knowing.
Also my understanding is that the engine used is the UT2003/UC1 engine that has been extensively modified. Is this the same as U2 2.5 or is 2.5 the engine that is being used for UC2 (or is that 2.5x) ... all these versions of the U2 engine around can get confusing. Thanks.
From a review site (ign.com):
"Faces are quite detailed and pretty expressive, and the voice acting consistently above-par. The sound in general is great, particularly the music, which mostly consists of tense orchestral pieces. You can tell that Pariah is supposed to have a movie-like appeal, with a dramatic setup leading into a sequence of reasonable situations with clear goals. And the presentation is a heck of a lot better than Unreal II, for those of you who are worried about that."

U1 - UE1
UT - UE1
UT2003 - UE2
UT2004 - UE2.5
UC - UE2
UC2 - UE2X
Pariah - UE2.5 (free upgrade to UE2 licensees)
VE3D - What version of the Unreal engine will Pariah be using?
James Schmalz -It's using a highly modified version of the Unreal Championship engine and we are integrating many of the good things from the UT2004 engine. Beyond that we have added some incredible optimizations, the Havok physics engine, great bump mapping that you can see in the weapon in one shot, new fast decal system, and tons of other things.
