but honestly, the XMP "tech looking" characters don't bring any of those ^^ or anything i can think of to the game. ie, have a swords man that's tech looking.

This game has been described a tactical/strategical fps, so how about adding a commander unit to the game. He should have a possibility to observe the battlefield from bird´s view and give orders to fighters. And of course he also needs to see some action and for that he could have a mech-like enermous power armor like the ones in original U2.

I was surprised seeing so many capital ideas in a single thread. Verü uncommon. :) The vehicle repairing mechanic and the one-guy-fixes-all idea were both worth considering. Personally I´d be delighted seeing stuff that requires more than one player to participate in doing it. These could be heavier deployable cannons and temporary health/supply/shield stations.

The only weapon is distraction. By stopping to make small talk whilst casually disrobing the other team's crew slut (because somewhere on the buttocks is the secret 'word of the day' displayed {said WOTD if typed into the console gives ya lots of points}) you might have to give her a ride to the home node maybe spring for a pizza in order to clinch the deal. Female and male models....(hmmmm, which do ya think would be most effective?.....).
Sorry but I don't think this is any sillier than any thing else proposed.

this suggestion although intertaining, would make it fairly hard on me to recruit anyone ( one person got scarred away just because of the button layout on u2xmp, but he might come back, once i get him hooked on somethin else)

I would rather see "Epic battle between Humans and Skaarj come into the game than an additional class. Although, having two different teams with similar strengths would make a fourth class easier to come up with.

That could work well, as it would give a nice theme for the map. If it just changed the look of the one team, and keept the same weapons and movment, you would not get any balance problems.

Well you could add melee weapons for the skaarj ;) Claws of death would rock!

And then you could give the humans a "halo-2-esque" plasma sword.

So you get jackals butt on one of the skaarj models and give the humans a plasma sword and you've got it ;)

The unreal2 weapons would have to be changed for balance like all the Unreal2 weapons were for XMP. In case you all forgot what the Unreal2 weapons are:

Drakk Laser

This is an excellent weapon and will become part of your regular rotation once
you've got it. Primary fire acts like a railgun, firing an accurate orange
burst at whoever you're pointing at. This works very well on Skaarj, especially
the unarmoured or lightly armoured ones. The secondary fire shoots a short beam
of controlled Laser which is a bit like the flamethrower only twice as
powerful. This is a great way of killing practically anything, though it does
eat up ammo like nothing else and only has a short to medium range.

Taika

These are strange balls you pick up on Na Koja Abad. For those of you who play
scrolling shooters these are a little bit like options. Primary fire shoots a
ball which then floats around firing at the person you attached it to. It
doesn't do much damage, but it is extremely annoying and the enemies will try
to shoot it out of the air, which gives you a chance to switch weapons and
shoot them in the head. Secondary fire makes the balls hover around you and
shoot the incoming fire. This is great if people are trying to shoot you with
rockets, as they move quite slowly and balls are very quick. Use them sparingly
though, as you don't get many.

The new weapons I added were:

Target Painter Grenades

These grenades mark enemy targets that get caught in its radius with a yellow arrow above their heads for the duration of the effect. These arrows can be seen through terrain and walls by the HUD every player wears.

ECM Grenades

These grenades blind turrets from targets inside its blast radius for a short amount of time.

Friend or Foe Jammer

When deployed, this jammer causes turrets in its radius to treat everyone in the turrets line of sight as an enemy player.

I still like the idea of some kind of Melee weapon. I mean, come on, that been an Unreal game staple since UT99 at least and even Unreal 1 if you count the Skaarj.

Personally, I would have liked to see XMP Skaarj vs. Humans. Would have rocked. Plus, if the Skaarj had melee attacks and could run a tad faster using just their claws? Weeeeeeeee...... :p

I like the idea of 'teh supplier'. Another class that you could add -> Spy:
Can deploy spy cameras
Can shoot attaching spy cameras to enemies (effect like the one in Starcraft.. > see what that unit is seeing).

If you are to create a new class please make it so that it looks quite as close as possible to Aida, the ship's commander of Unreal II. Perhaps you should give her superpowers too, like smacktalking and turning her ennemies into chickens for a short laps of time. And give her all Unreal II weapons that were left unused in XMP. I don't believe she would need any kind of amor, just give her a very tight and short gear.
As a side note I would also like you to give her the extra ability of riding rockets, so please make it possible. We dramatically need a female model in this game and I bet this was your primeval intention when starting this thread. Thanks for taking my considerations into account!

Well you could make the Drakk Laser secondary a melee range ability. It basically made this short range cutting beam, but turn it into a melee range light sabre for all I care :) It's too powerful in its Unreal2 form anyway.

At first at least I would like to see no change to current. I think the balance is great right now.....but.....maybe at some point you could add a class

My first thought was a driver/mechanic class. Slow mover on foot, low ammo, but auto heals vehicles while in them and can disable vehicles also. maybe they could hack vehicles to fix them and or hack to lower health. Like maybe sneak up on tank with enemy in it and start hacking it and disable its driving ability or shutdown turrets or close the view hatch. I dunno just thinking out loud. Maybe even be able to disable turrets and mines by hacking. I have a friend that I think would love some type of driver/mech class.

i like the idea of a mechanic for repairing vehicles, giving the mechanic a weapon no one else could use in order to repair those vehicles.

Another idea.....

A Skaarj Class - instead of 3 skaarj types, just make 1. it would be interesting atleast to the people who like eye candy. make the skaarj as good as the ranger with weapons not even in the game. This way, we can attract people from ut2k4 into xmp so they won't get bored of playing only men. plus if there was new weapons that only the skaarj class could use, maybe people would actually play as it if it had a significant role. Voices of a Skaarj could be easily made thru computer generated software and some manipulation of tone and pitch of voice.

I really couldnt care what my character looks like, because I cant actually see him. Others can see him, and I can see others, but the only visual indicator to what I am is a hand holding a rather large gun. So having a Skaarj just because it looks nice wont really work.
