Are you open to the possibility that people have already made a decision about whether UT3 rocks or sucks and that they have voted with their feet? "The player counts don't lie." The online multiplayer player counts are telling us something. What do you think they are telling us?

Unreal Tournament 3 needs to become f2p every Saturday via steam.

Where least expected
It was many small things adding up for me.
Everything seen alone wouldn't matter much. But it all added up.

For me it was the sum of:
- the graphics and artstyle (lack of color darkness)
- no Unreal/UT feel at all (settings and characters)
- the UI and Serverbrowser
- WAR as ONS replacement didn't work out at all for me or a large part of the ONS community
- players I had a lot fun with over the years not migrating because of the point above
- all the small bugs
- the horrible wheeled vehicle steering
- no zooming or 1st person in vehicles
- gamespy
- a lot of missing little and comfortable features from previous iterations of the franchise

After being hopeful for the Titan pack new bad things were showing that made me unistall the game after the fourth attempt to like it:
- lack of players (and decent servers that are populated) online
- mainly gimmicks added in Titan-pack opposed to solid, lasting gameplay (fun for two days, then boring)
- Betrayal not thought out till the end
- horrible maps voted for Greed on the few populated servers (which is a very good gametype)

The plain DM gameplay was good though. And yes, I tried to like the game...

Thank you for telling us all your personal gripes about UT3. I'm sure your chart is uniquely different than the hundreds of other complaints we have seen over the last few years.

I didn't know that you were akstylish too.
Is everyone who is tired of reading people whine about Ut3's problems akstylish now? :p

We all know what was wrong with Ut3 when it came out (or even now, I guess). I like UT3 I just have other games that I spend my limited amount of gaming time playing. Does it have everything I could wish it had? No. But that doesn't prevent it from being a good game in its own right.

That argument can be applied to every other game with a sequel.

Not really. A sequel of System Shock and Deus Ex added story, even if the game play is the same, it is a new experience.

A UT sequel is just more of the same because it is MP, with really no single player. On top of that, everything in it is just a compromise between two generations of UT, so it is a mix of 8 and 3 year old games.

Agreed. I don't mind the game compared to others, even with the flaws, but it is nothing like 99 and 2k4 where for me, where I didn't even play other games for 2-3 years after.

It's just a compromise at the surface. Below that, it's very different. UT3 is/was dissapointing for fans of UT1 OR 2004.

If that where true, there woulden't have been thouse monstrous debates about UT3 that there where, if we had all just been agreeing that "yeah this part of the game is pretty bad" then there would have been no reason to argue.

There are millions of sequels that play very similarly to the previous versions. Halo 2-3 more of the same, COD 2-5 more of the same, etc.

Most of the complaints here are because UT3 didn't bring in half the stuff (ie: same) from the previous games or that the gameplay changes (ie: what isn't the same) are for worse.

Were there a lot of people arguing that there were NOT problems? I think most of the "optimists" were arguing that the flaws in the game didn't make it as bad as people were saying. There was plenty of agreement going on, but like I said in my last post, I like the game just fine. I just dont' have enough time to devote to it. To be honest, I was having the same problem in 2k4 (except that in 2k4 I didn't even play it when there was nothing else to play) :)

kinda going off topic but i had a thought

how cool would it be to see gears of war maps, on unreal tournament? :lol:most of them would have to be DM or CTF games but im sure some gow maps would be good for onslaught/warfare

I just installed the CBP3 along with a whole mess of character packs and maps. Over 8Gb of zip and rar files total. Lots of really sweet stuff. I am not much of an offline player, but I did try some of this out and it's great. Thing is, most of this stuff is basically offline only stuff because most peeps do not even have it installed.

The CBP3 was so nice with the installer. Too bad most of the other stuff is such a pain to install. There is no standard package for so much of this stuff. You unrar or unzip it and move it to where it goes. Then deal with the ambiguous package errors when you start the game.

JD, are you playing UT3? I have gotten on a few times and I always check the friend thing, but i never see you on, or anyone else I know for that matter.
I play every night Mattlydoodlydoo.

The friends list in ut3 is a pos and never worked from the start. It's a useless waste of resources and something that Epic should have gotten rid of because it's pathetic how bad it is. If you're not on Steam, you'll probably never find anyone. :(
