Taji Mustafa, a spokesman for the Muslim Action Committee, said the protests are sparked by the Muslim people's reverence for the prophet.

"So when he is demonized, the young and old are deeply affected," Mustafa said. "As long as the abuse is ongoing we will continue to rise up in protest."

The general anger over the cartoons was stoked when several newspapers reprinted the cartoons and by Calderoli revealing the T-shirt on television, he said.

Mustafa added that the cartoons were reminiscent of attacks on Jews in European publications in the 1930s.

"Now there is a demonization of the Muslim community, so we have to speak up to prevent something like the Holocaust from happening," he said.

The true ridiculousness of this situation is that the cartoons do very little to villify muslims in the eyes of europeans, but their frothing-at-the-mouth apeshit-crazy reactions to them have even peace-and-love-grooving hippie pothead intellectual elitist liberals like me seriously considering the benefits of a really, really final solution to all religion. Auschwitz-style.

That being said, it'll take much more than xtians and muslims killing each other* in Africa before I vote FrP.

*) Which, when you think about it, isn't really such a bad thing, conceptually.

It has gotten to a point now where I would actually consider voting for them. However, the package you'd get is too large to swallow. So, the first party, NOT counting FrP, gets my vote.

Tell me, what exactly have those people done to promote goodwill and friendship across religions, race and other differences? Muslim kids, in Norway, are burning Norwegian flags in school. I spoke briefly with an old schoolmate of mine just before the weekend. We grew up together. He's a muslim and he told me he hated this country because of the cartoons. And no, he hasn't seen my posts here. If he had, he'd probably try to kill me.

Up until all this started, no one has had to earn my trust. I have been nothing but forthcoming and, in my opinion, tolerant towards any and all. From now on, muslims are going to have to work hard(er) to prove worthy of my trust. The ball is not in my yard anymore.

I'm sick and tired of this.

Thing is, Almost, we see the world differently. I see everybody as the same, easy to understand and easy to manipulate. You're seeing muslims as a new breed, which doesn't make any sense. But since you do, I'd say do something about it. It is your way of thinking, so carry it beyond this point and think of a solution. Personally I believe ending the 'group' way of thinking is the best thing to do. It's something that has geen going on for thousands of years and has NEVER brought us anything good.

So am I. What makes somebody a muslim? When he tells others he is one? Is it the colour of his skin? Is it his behaviour? FFS, everytime somebody spits on me it is because of YOUR kind of thinking. The fact that you're not stupid enough to do any of that doesn't matter, the way of thinking still causes nothing but hurting.

Up until now I haven't had anything against any religion of belief. Right now, people with muslim beliefs are doing more harm than good in this world. And to repeat what I've already said, the fact that other muslims doesn't speak up against it makes them no better. And you are asking me to do something about it. I don't believe in violence, burning and killing so I do what I can, right here. I voice my opinion. Oh, and just so you and everyone else know, this is not about colour. It's about religion and belief.

Did I have these views a month a month or two ago? No, I didn't and I wouldn't if it hadn't been for the crazyness displayed here and elsewhere. Like I said, the ball is not in my yard anymore. What is, is, and will be for a long time for my part. And I honestly don't think I'm the one to blame for that. Until something or someone comes along to show me that my views are wrong, I'm done discussing this. As long as the muslim leader in Norway has no other comment than "You only have yourself to blame" and as long as muslim kids keep burning Norwegian flags in Norwegian schools, the above are my views.

Perhaps search a bit around to try and find some videos about it. This is probably one of the hardest pieces of evidence that group mechanisms are the #1 reason to blame in just about all conflicts.

So, are you saying Almost [or myself] do not have anything to fear if our point of view is different from a Muslim? If so then you are clearly wrong - since this whole issue comes down to a point a view. One view is we have the right to say/print what we like and the other is if you do we will put out a bounty to have you killed.

Like I said when I started this thread I thought the issue at hand was from Extremist - I no longer think that and I no longer will give the benefit of the doubt to Muslims.

Voluntary work on schools. Showing that having my colour of skin does not make you a terrorist. Not much, I know. But then again I seem to think the problem is somewhere else than most people think. If somebody thinks the problem is with a group of people, then concentrating your help will easily mean better help. I believe the problem is with all people however so while I'm doing just a bit right now I do litteraly spend hours a day trying to think of something more effective.

Odie, if I were to call myself a muslim tomorrow, like I did a while back, will anything change? Will I start to burn flags? Will I kill people, blow myself up? I doubt it... takes a whole lot more than that for somebody to hurt others (in contrary to what some might think, hurting others is actually pretty damned difficult for most people). Things like dehumanising the other group of people play a big role, but there next to a zillion factors that play a role in modern day conflict. You blame islam, I blame the other zillion.

I do not think the issue is with Islam, just the way most Muslims use their religion. I just want to be clear I have no issue with Islam [or any other religion]. The fact is Terrorists (real ones) and some political parties like FrP (FN in France) are precisely waiting for people that are "sick and tired of this" to join them and to justify their bad ideas. I can understand you but don't fall in that, i know it's not easy but the only way to force people to discuss/negotiate IMO.

Another point is to understand why muslims react with so much violence (because yes they do) , behind a burning flag, i think there are few feelings that we could analyse :

-For muslims in westerns countries and when i look in France, dunno for others but certainly the same, they don't live in the best places and their wages are low (bad adaptation to the local culture & the racism they live because it exists), when TV talks about the arab world, most time its about terrorism but rarely about their art or other good things (for few reasons) and because it's a minority, i think all this contribute for them to feel unconsciously inferiors and consciously humiliated. So give them a reason (even an infime one) and their reaction will be disproportionate. I think my country needs to assume its responsibility with that since we asked them to come in France for our need in workers.

-For muslims in middle-east, they live their religion as a culture, and it's a fact, Islam is not only a religion but also a culture, like it has been for Catholicism before the secularization of our countries. So unfortunately they don't joke with that kind of things.
