Variety, citing multiple anonymous sources, reports that Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the monstrous 2008 film, The Dark Knight is in negotiations with Epic Games discussing an acquisition. The movie studio is currently co-financing the planned Gears of War film.

As always, until confirmed by Epic Games, we will consider this a very interesting rumour.

Anyway, they can take it, Epic's Fate is on the big bucks, so why they don't take that opportunity?

Interesting to be sure, but honestly, significance = 1 / (∞ – 1).

Epic is so corped already that a sellout doesn't even matter anymore, at least from the perspective of the UT/PC user base and what we can expect from them in the future. By all appearances, their commitment is token and divided, and profit has overtaken spirit as the primary motivator. All a deal would mean is one equity group persuading another that it's in their financial interest to cash in now on their assets and IP instead of to continue directly generating revenue from them.

tbh the biggest change will be the mockery when they screw the next pooch: "EPIC FAIL" → "LEGENDARY FAIL".

What the hell is this "ballin" thing?
I don't believe this

And you know jeff morris resigned from epic recently? Maybe he's feeling bad about epic's current ethics.

If you have PM’d WarTourist and have not received a response, it is because he is no longer with Epic. After five great years with the company, he has moved on to pursue other creative dreams, and we miss him dearly.

well, there goes any hope of Linux clients

my first thought was that if the rumor was true, any hopes for continued Linux development went down the toilet... by and large Hollywood wants nothing to do with Linux unless it involves making a picture and 3d rendering... and then they'll gladly use it... but for the home user watching movies or playing games? immediate double standard, Linux must die.

Epic's traditionally been good about supporting the dominant server platform with actual graphics clients, but a Hollywood ownership would more than likely put the kibash any work on getting the UT3 Linux client out the door.

Nothing surprises me anymore and there must be some element of truth in this rumour somewhere.
I didn't realise that Jeff Morris had packed his bags though?

What would a movie studio want with a software and game developer?

If it is true, it will be an epic, nay.. legendary event

(thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week)

Or maybe he moved on to pursue different creative interests (like the message said), maybe something in the field of digital distribution and online games (like instantaction.com)
Or maybe he became a florist.

If this issue was even more than a passing concern there would be more than one person on the payroll working on the client. Hollywood is not going to cause Ryan Gordon to go looking for work.

hope he quit, not sacked. Either way, he wouldn't have any trouble finding employment.

One of the few people that bothered talking to all the haters.

As for the movie, I have no idea how it will turn out. I've never played that game, but Id imagine the overly ripped characters would look funny in a full blown movie.
