Would it be possible to do the scope like the p90 sight instead of as a simple texture overlay? It would be very cool if the sight looked a little like the p90, but when you aimed it, you whole screen would zoom in to the magnification of the scope.

I don't know if this is possible, but it would be very cool to have a scope that gave you a better idea of its alignment.

Its two parts (grenade launcher and assault rifle) are still developed, but in two seperate weapons and one of them (the assault part) is the XM8 which shall replace the M16 and M14 in the future.

Fairly recently, but it was. The grenade launcher part is being continued as a seperate part (can't remember what the designation is) and the XM8 is a modified version of the AR part.
