Hate to flame you but: A post that long is about complicated it is, in fact I even oversimplified it in a few places. And while yes you can't please everyone, don't be mistaken, it is that complicated.
For some reason, I felt you’d still take that personally. I can assure you it wasn’t meant to be. All I was saying is that I wasn’t going to read all that. From what I did read, there was nothing new to me, & I have no control over those matters anyway. So there was no point to me reading it all to begin with.

On the other hand, I didn’t take your statements as a flame against me at all (even if you meant it to be). I didn’t say anything about it being complicated or not, so not sure where your going with that, but it really doesn’t matter.

Having to work from scratch or not when porting it over to 2k4, I like the weapon balance from XMP the way it is. I’ll leave it at that.

Well my post was well thought and rather complete summation of the situation, in response to you. To say:

Well, no offense PRG, but I’m not going to read all that,

Well, that basically takes you out the discussion logically. I'm sure many disagree with all or parts of my post especially considering how long and in depth it is. You are saying, what I posted is wayyy too long, hence it's useless. The point is to convince FMI to get the best weapon balance possible. I assure you: FMI thinks of game balance as deeply as I do, whether they agree or disagree AND do it or singularly or collectively. Once again, I apologize fully for the flame, but do not cop and say you can't please everyone. YOU can't, that's true. However, my post is 2 ideas(minigun and gas change) and fixes back to 6496-7, which is the closest thing to empirical evidence you're gonna face, barring proper testing. Saying it's too long, is not a proper response. The point is to get it right, not get it right from the U2XMP beta and not the from the 7710 patch at the other extreme. UTXMP should early on be an experience where a veteran XMP player get's into it and does 2 things: thinks it's over %95 XMP and doesn't think it has the gross issues of U2XMP(several of them are bad and about the game having precisely zero support.) Hence that player should feel at home with rather minimal trouble getting used to.

Easy kid, easy. You’re blowing this WAY out of proportion. Don’t take it so personally. While I may not want to spend MY time reading all that, I in no way said or meant that anything in your post was useless. If you want to interpret it that way, that’s on you.

I don’t think you understand what I’m trying to convey here. Okay, so I sit down for 30 min, find you a publisher & read it all. What then? What am I going to do with all that? I’m not working on the mod. I’m a simple player who likes to play XMP & thought the weapon balance was great. Why do I want to engage in a debate regarding some lengthy 16-paragraph post about weapon balance?

You give me & my opinion of what I should do with your post WAY too much credit. At no time did I say the people who actually matter on this forum shouldn’t read &/or do something about your post.

Moving on.

No-one forced you to post and join in ;)

I'm posting here partly because I'm enjoying the discussion, but also because it may result in giving FMI some ideas on how to make UTXMP as good as they can make it. If nothing else it should highlight areas that need looking at to make sure the balance is right.

I guess it's also because we love xmp so much, we all want to be allowed to make some contibution, however small, to a project that could keep the game alive.

Not what i call a instant kill.

You can get one hit kills with the sniper rifle, but you have to hit right in the middle of the head, so you don't see them often.

Also the rangers grenades can one shot someone if you hit the head.

Well I read through most of the posts and can find a lot of common ground. (Very good posts on your side PRG).

1. Ranger Pistol
2. Tech Shotgun Range
3. Tech Gas Grenade

need to be fixed. Therefore Tech Assault Rifle has to be made a little stronger as a trade-off.

Iam unsure what the gunner needs but the blinding effect could be far stronger to be useful at last.

Headshot with any grenade will do it :D .
Which makes me think: What is kill message for killing someone with a smoke grenade?

I think that it should be exactly like when XMP was released the first time.. it was good then.. some people were better with some weapons, but overall i think it was balanced very good..

Everything is fine other than gas duration/damage and shotgun ranger/damage.

Very few people can snipe with a pistol... Just like in real life you CAN hit targets from long distance with a pistol...

Leave classes /weapons as they are imao.

Tech is the weakest class (speed/shield ratio) and the class with the worst long range weapons (or better: w/o any serious long range weapons).
The tech is the best class for close range/quarter battle instead. So why change it?
To kill a gunner with one shot you need to sneak pretty close to him - the only situation being sucessfully is when the gunner hacks or camps in def.
Can be avoided easily by moving or listenig to footsteps. Gas nades...no problem in open ares. Keep out of range and the tech eats sh**. In closed area as cheep as being sniped while hacking a deploy or running through a mined teleporter.
This turrets farming/spamming is a serious problem (because of interfering with the whole team). A personal count of X turrets can be a solution but any defender will hate it (perhaps an increased number of turrets when hitting the "I`m on defense button" (no just kidding ;) ))

(No offense against the other classes. Just because the techs seems to be the bastard class outta hell. But taking a look at any games I see a good tech getting pwned by an equally good sniper or gunner every time)

The duration of the flame thrower secondary needs an improvement.
The energy usage of the laser tripmines should be decreased.
:D

Okay guys this has been an ongoing argument since the beta days of xmp . I agree alot with PRG and Zak about weapons , but I got use to getting spammed with gas and being a sitting duck on an outside map . I just keep plugging away at gameplay and try to win . To change the code for weapons , is it gonna make it a better game ? I don't know , but take away the gas duration and where does it leave a tech , Probably dead . Like I said I don't have an answer . I just play the game .

I disagree completely. It is not difficult at all to be a tech without using gas.

Most people don't have a problem with gas being a weapon, its just right now you can cover too large a surface area over a long period of time with 6 in a row, and while rangers and techs can get away from it, gunners can't.

Fleury , I agree with you, on gunners can't get away from gas and no it's not difficult to play as a tech . But -( I don't want to say this ) most techs I face spam me with gas and then do me in with the shotty . I really see it as being the weapon of choice for the tech , to minimize it's duration or completely take it away - leaves a tech with a assault rifle and shotty . The shotgun is a powerful weapon , but the assault rifle against a gunner is another story .I got use to it and learned to compensate for the gas spamming . I've been - like many others trying to get to a level playing field for a long time . To take one's weapon and decrease it's ability and not the other classes weapons , does this make a fair game ? I'm not looking for a heated argument on this topic - been there , done that . This topic will go on forever , I really don't see an answer to this .
