UT99 to Ut2003--Modders, start the Engine

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Okay, I know I'm a bit late to the thread; sorry. :) But, I do have a theory....

Mark says that you can't use any UT content. Maybe he'd allow it if you force them to have UT installed to install it (which can be done when building the UMOD), and (although myLevel fans will throw a fit) make them supply the textures and sounds themselves. so that all you're supplying is maps, music, and maybe models that they can't use without having UT installed anyways?

(Heck, I think you could make it so that paths pointing to their UT texture and sound directories--or at least the default ones--are added to the INI, so they don't even have to copy stuff over....)

That could make it impossible for Mac/Linux gamers to use though :p

a) Assuming that the directory name is the same, if you used relative paths it should be fine (and, in fact, would be more likely to not break things, since UT and UT2003 are probably installed in the same directory on most machines).

b) If the name is different, then they can always edit the .INI file themselves, or copy the files over manually. :)

Importing the textures is part of what Mark Rein had a problem with, though (or so I understand his message, since no one's posted a clarification or retraction on his behalf).

If you wanna catch the UT feel, there are two important things to consider...

The models size onscreen (I´m not talking about scales, heights, or whatever else)

Sound in general, wich is more "explosive"/bigger dynamic range in UT than UT2k3.

Well, my suggestion would b to make a classic and revamped version of all the masp we port.... just photoshop the UT1 textures so they look similar but not the same.

And as for the map pack, here is what I have for CTF Face as of yet, and what i have started redoing of DM-Zeto.
