What nerf? The dodge-jump may be gone, but the wall-dodge itself is more powerful, not less, than it was in 2k4. So much so, in fact, that if you time your movements properly, you're no less mobile in UT3 than it seemed you were in 2k4. No offense to anyone in particular, but this notion that you can't move freely in UT3 is mere fallacy from rigid 2k4ers who simply haven't learned the new game yet.
And what of the fact that you can't dodge up ramps anymore? Is this rigid 2k4'ers whining? You could do this in EVERY UT game.. Until now. Of course, in the end one must accept this and other changes and move on.. but the fact remains that in some respects the extreme possibilities of movement have indeed been handicapped.

This sounds pretty promising but I'd hate to see Epic do what has always doomed them in the past which is make this the 'final' touch on the game and then leave it at that. ...despite this patch, I'm with the guy above me somewhere, cautiously optimistic, but not convinced this will be the 'one' to fix everything.

One fix to rule them all,
One community to whine about them
One Epic to bring them all,
And in the DARKNESS, BIND them!

thats the map i was working on that had it, it had one base that switched align ment depending on how had the most war fare nodes (the main node connecting the 2 in the center is the main node that decided which base it switched to which was triggered by the team that had the most amount of nodes, it was the domination concept). i had the same map set up where both core where not accesble and every node captured would tick away health over time (the more you have the more it ticks down) non of the nodes where connected to the cores and the base did not have any alignment when starting out, if this was made liniar (which i was testing out in a different enviroment) it amount to having an assault map, sevel independant nodes that are not attached to the cores and can be triggered by different things one has to defend it main objective and the other has to destroy it (one core is just un destroyable, i.e. does not have anything triggering any damage)

it was a fairly simple setup. and yes it did work, ill see if can whip up something this weekend that will do the same thing

I don't know how good or bad the online PS3 community numbers have been but coffee machine conversations reveal the office's PS3-owning UT3 players to be pretty excited about the Titan Pack.

The interesting thing is that they did not know about it until I told them and they probably would not have found out from any auto-update unless they played the game sometime after the release of the patch/pack.

On the basis of a very small sample, Epic have a potential winner here amongst the general PS3 audience if they can just reach them to let them know about it.

One hopes* that Sony will push this on Epic's behalf as it should be an example of one of the PS3's big selling points in comparison to the XBOX360.

What are the routes to players on the PS3 like? Is there a MOTD type facility for the console that could alert players to things like the Titan Pack?

*Whilst I regard consoles as a blight on the FPS scene :), I still wish Epic well.

One thing you should know in relation to the Dark Match map, from the patch notes:
Added slight player glow support for darkmatch (maps with DARKMATCH at start of worldinfo name
So I guess you can flag a map as a darkmatch map for purposes of whatever this does.

I'm starting to be afraid they'll drop support after this pack...
I mean, if they never make the campaign/thundercrash/necris-jester pack/expansion it would like shooting themselves and the community in the foot. And I'm sure the community would shoot back as well...

I don't need any of that. Some people couldn't care less about Malcom, the Necris, the Campaign. I being one of them. I play for the MP aspect. Not the back story or any of the characters.

So still no UT2K4 style bot management (drag & drop avatars, individually configurable settings etc.) and custom voice pack support?

The new DMs seem promising, especially looking forward to the Darkmatch map and the Turbine & Koos Galleon remakes, and the Titan mut sounds pretty cool, but otherwise... well, not bad, but not terribly exciting, either. Personally I'd much rather have them wait a few more months with the release, and add stuff like 4 team support, more realistic gore, an advanced species stats mut, some interesting new characters (like Nali Cows) instead of those 2 generic ones, some crazy Necris weapons, and a full-blown Conquest-esque gametype with resource management and such. Now that would have truly been 'Titanic' (and Epic).

But I'll respectfully close the gift horse's mouth now, and hope the (presumably, hopefully) improved mod support will inspire people to add some of the above features.

That bot customazition menu was horrible, so I don't mind that. It should be the way it ws in original unreal and UT.

You had some more options in UT99, like renaming your bots which was pretty cool, but overall the avatar based 2K4 setup is much more user friendly, imo. Of course, both are vastly superior to the nerfed, retarded mess that is UT3's bot selection menu. OK, so maybe they 'didn't have the time' to do it properly (pretty lame excuse, but ok) back in 2007, but it should have been fixed in the first or second patch, and it certainly should have been fixed in the expansion. But it's not, wtf!?

You're one of those people that just likes to complain about everything aren't you?

TIK didn't complain about "everything" with the new pack, he mentioned specific things that I think are legit to beef about, and also said some good things about others. Whether you agree or not is something else.

1) They were probably under significant pressure by Midway to ship the game on 3 platforms for the 2007 holiday season. As we all know, they failed on this front since they staggered the releases.
2) They probably didn't "fix" this because they had bigger fish to fry. While botmatching is a significant feature, having a nice UI isn't a high priority. Be thankful you even have the option of customizing them in the first place. There are probably limitations in the entire UI system preventing them from meeting your expectations.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Quake Live. The game it's based on is incredibly cheap, runs on anything and has tons of awesome mods, while Quake Live runs through the browser (slow?) and can't be modded.

So it could do well, but some of it's current popularity is surely just the novelty of being in a beta.

I'm in the beta. It feels no different from running my install of old q3:ta
Hopefully id will do like epic is doing for ps3 and offer selected high quality mods directly in the web interface. Actually, I wish that would come to the pc as well. It's a bit of a pain for me to install custom characters. They could at least put some official support behind people in the community working on cache converters and map/character install/uninstall management applications. Editing .ini files isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I want more colorful, visible and interesting skins with less ugly normal mapping (like ut2k4 characters). Honestly it's the overall art/design/audio direction of ut3 that made me not like it above anything else. I'd have preferred taking ut/ut2k4 assets and characters and upgrading them to ut3 specs (but take it easy with the poopish normal mapping!)

There should be a necri-fied skin for all standard weapons and that's what you see if you're a necris character. Even better would be full necris versions of the standard weapons with the same damage values and alt fire modes. I think it would be a refreshing change to kill a necris character and pick up their weapon and have it look so different from the weapons you were using for the last 20 minutes.

I am happy with the character design. As long as it doesn't look as cartoonish/****ing terrible as UT2k3/4 ones, it's all right.
