UT3 Patch 3 In The Works, Features Slowly Being Revealed

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Ah friends! I had to exchange like 5 request/confirm messages with one my friend. He was able to add me right after first one, but I saw him in my list after fifth try or so. Not to mention that messages navigation is really dumb, no reply (IIRC), a lot of navigation depth for such a simple feature. I don't have UT3 now (at work) but from what I remember there are too many screens with too little features on each. Why I have to confirm friend and then select send message instead of having this right away in the first screen?

the voting menu:

  • needs a map preview option
  • needs to be able to start voting mid-game
  • should switch to a given map once enough votes have been recorded. It should not wait for the timer to hit zero when the majority - if not all players - have already voted for a given map.
  • needs the ability to switch gametypes and allow player kick voting
  • doesn't need the list of players on the right side - that can go.
  • a chat window would be nice also

[EDIT]Forgot a few things that aren't related to the vote menu:

1)A server option to randomize teams every match
2) the colon/semicolon problem with ingame text - it's not that big a deal, but I don't think it'd be that hard to fix either.

These are the most important things for me

I have been trying to use user created voting systems...but they are so buggy I have to remove them and use the Epic map vote which sux...but at least is stable!!

I think they could learn alot from UT2vote for a map voting system!

You're unbelievably wrong. Horrible UI with no copy/paste, no explicit Add Favorite or no history of servers visited via "open IP" command... these are UI bugs (or omissions) that killed my taste for UT3. I'm not competitive, but as they play mostly on private servers I know what they miss. Do I need to tweak (and learn) INIs before I can play on my favorite servers? This is really easy to see. There is no (really NO) support for working with private servers unless you go for INI tweaking.

I'm not wrong. That was my observation, you can not claim my observation is wrong because you don't have the raw information I used to report my observation.

Competitive gamers play on a predetermined server against predetermined players. Hence a server browser is kind of obsolete.
Sure a competitive gamer can play on arbitrary servers just for the fun of it, but that's more recreational than competitive.

Also, you only need to tweak your ini files once. Not constantly. You can never expose all things you want to edit in a user interface. It's an information overload, the vast majority only needs to change a few settings, these settings should be exposed in the UI. A game is not an so-called "expert system", so it shouldn't behave like it. It will only confuse the majority of the users.

Then again, I'm not an expert in the field of user interface design, usability, human reasoning. The only thing I know is that human stupidity is infinite, and to expect the least from users. And because of that you should not expose too much to the user. Experts or wanna-bes will find their way.

* A way to have an Open IP dialog so I can _paste_ IPs into it (from IRC) without instead having to write down IPs on a scrap of paper and then type in 'open 123.456.789.123:4567 in the console. This is the 21st century damnit.
* When I go Join Game > Multiplayer, please show the Friends tab at the top, along with Filter, Server, History, Favourites
* When I join a game via the console, please show it in my History tab
* When one of my Friends is on a passworded server, I want to be able to try and join the server from the Friends list because I may well know the password to the server my friend is on. (Someone tells me this works like this. TBH I haven't tested it recently so maybe it is fixed now, but I'm writing it here in case it's not)
* Properly nice customizable cross-hairs please

As they say : QFT ;)

In general : less is more ... so while the tweaking majority may hate the supposed lack of options but for the average/casual gamer they're enough.
I'd even argue that there still are too many options as there's no preview to show the non-experts what the majority of the options actually are meant to accomplish.

Besides ... isn't BradG's tweaker just the kind of thing for the obsessive tweakers and geeks ?
In fact I am convinced that if the majority of the settings in the configs were useless then you'd still find people that are convinced that they got 'better' framerates by changing them.
// ---

A better/improved server-browser seems like a more realistic request as that would be vital for new players to join the community (although I also wonder how many newbies actually worry about which server to join, I used to pick the fastest one that had slots left ... ).

You can have "less" if they make the UI like UT 2004. If you don't select "advanced", you won't get it. The UI in UT3 is slow, clumsy and lacking features. You shouldn't have to rely on user mods to get basic game features.

Please make motion blur a client-side option, so we won't have to use a mutator.

I'd like to play online again :)

- Added fake pings for bots, and randomized their names, included a few random clan tags, just to confuse people. And make them believe they're playing with real players.
- Bots now have the ability to vote for their favorite maps.
- The ability to customize bots, with pink dresses, gothic lolita skirts, corsets etc. To make the game feel more like YOUR game.

Don't forget the ****ing furries.

Don't use arrows? :p
Perhaps I'm left handed and don't like keeping my hands three inches apart

I'm sorry... but that is the most ridiculous reason not to play online I've never heard. Did you just boycott all games until 2007 (ish... I don't recall when the first motion blur game came out)?

I think I know one thing a huge number of people would really appreciate Epic fixing (especially those of us who invested a decent amount of money for a high end system) and that is the ability to play using the high poly models you see in the character selection area. I still don't get what the use of showing off how great the models can look if you can't actually use them. It just doesn't make much sense.

I fail to see how the UI has any influence on the "competitive scene". There is no browsing for servers for competitive playing.

And with the exception of the something server browsing parts of the UI I think most of the commentary is vastly exaggerated.

I never said that it has got a big effect on the competetive scene, more like on the whole game. It isn't exaggerated, even epic has said that the UI is really bad.
