I´m still trying to decipher Beppo´s words in the last paragraph.

"We will not have a 'Select your branch of service' (Army, Navy, AirForce) but we will have a 'Select your 'special' team' where team is defined by the type of included individuals. So you can name it some sort of class system but you do not select your one player type, you select a group."

is not the same select a group and select a player type?

"Without spoiling any further details I can say that you will be able to play ie a 2 vs 2 match with a bunch of folks running around on the map then... not only the 4 guys that would normally be there"

And no idea here...

If you have 2 weapons working, ballistics, sights and basic player movement then in the name of all that is holy release a beta mod/mut for ut2k4. I don't think i can live through a long wait. At least then i can enjoy Angelh@rt's ut2k4 maps again! (*cough* and RO's )

[edit] 'if you have 2 weapons...' - make that one weapon

Time for me to dust off my UT2k4 mapping I think...

I agree on the no tanks thing (or any form of artillery), simply because it looks odd when you shoot buildings and suchlike and they don't even wobble (unless SS have a more advanced damage system than I'm expecting ;) ). Oh, and sure, the mapper can make some things blow up when shot, but that gets out of hand/tedious very quickly...

For some reason I think Beppo is talking about pre-configuring several characters with several pre-set loadouts, so that when you fall in combat, the next soldier you made becomes your new character pawn.

Rather then just magically respawning your original dude, with whatever loadout you selected durring the reinforcement period.

I don’t know why I think that’s what he is getting at, maybe he mentioned something like this in another thread.

don't expect any mbt or large aircraft, inf is still about infantery, so the m113 apc is about the biggest tank you have to expect.

Exactly. As much as Battlefield is good, I don't want everyone running around in tanks and stuff. We have to remember that as fist_mrls said, INF is still about infantry and should be left that way. Where would all that sneaking around go in large maps like RTK? It would be pointless. One team would use the apc as cover, while they get the briefcase. RTK is a map meant to be done on foot.

At the same time, though, it would give all those anti-material rifles a use, finally.
Here's hoping they go for a penetration system rather than a hitpoint based one.

I could dig a penetration system with really good hit detection, simulated organs, incapacitation after a 20% loss of blood pressure, etc.

compounding wounds, shots to the lung/heart/liver, all that good stuff.

*that* would be as real as it gets. :D

Awesome point Yurch. I was about to ask what kind of anti tank (or material) weapons would we have access to. I know the INF team will put all their efforts to prevent anti tank rockets from being whored but I hope to god they don't include shoulder fired rocket launchers. That's just asking for a lot of trouble when it coems to FPSs. I'd recommend larger rocket systems like wire guided missiles that need to be carried (disassembled) and set up in a position in order to be used (with tripod and everything). soem would argue thats a waste of time and it's hard to implement and wire guided rockets are over kill for APCs but I think it would be a good way to keep people from rocket jumping to the CD and back again.

Or you could have a huge ass AT system, with a huge bulk. For instance, the eyrex missle launcher. But then again, any sort of tank should be a real bitch to deal with. In games like BF people go through tanks and armored vehicles like there is no tommorow because it seems that every single guy on foot has the means to kill a tank. Maybe have someone randomly selected to carry an AT weapon?

I would like to add in something about game types: Make any sort of new game type VERY DYNAMIC! Think DTAS. EAS is fun, but after a bit everyone knew where the choke points and stuff are. In DTAS, that changes every single round to something new. :) That will keep it fun for ever.

I couldn't agree more. I really hope some kind of dynamic objective(s) system will make its way to the next Inf generation
