Agreed, but it only takes one crooked mind that will make a NoCD patch that will give away your CD key. I am well aware that not all that is found on the internet is bad, nor is it all good. As far as I'm concerned, I preffer not to risk it.

In general you can trust Deviance and other teams that are pretty honorable even for "warez" teams.

I always use NOCD Patches, unless I play a game that has punkbuster enabled and it detects the NOCD as cheating.

One game, is Raven Shield, if you have a NOCD patch, it detects it as cheating. Just something lame UBI is doing.

Obviously I'm going to go to someplace like gumkepiewerld and get the noCD patch.

It's extremely annoying when I've got to leave a disk in the drive for months because it's the only game I play. I'm sure it's not the healthiest thing for my comp either. :/

or for the disk!!

as for RavenShield, Ubi supporting PunkBuster was probably the WORST idea ever.

From the time the game is released, to the time Epic patches the check out, I don't think I"ll use my computer for much else. If I do, I got two drives, one for UT, and one for whatever else I may do when not on UT. Not like I watch DVDs in my DVD rom drive anywyas...

Exactly. I used to have an old CD drive installed just to hold the UT2k3 CD, and I use my DVD-ROM drive to hold BF1942 now. Seeing as how UT2004 > BF1942, I won't be having any problems.

.

What was sweet was on old blizzard games they would let you spawn on or two copies. It would be nice for UT to do something like that for LAN play, but break online function so only people at a LAN can play. Heck limit the player models and number of binds to inspire people to buy thier own. LANS sell games after all. It would probably be a programing nightmare though...just a random hungover thought...that would be sweet.

eh? ... why do you think? there were way too many cheating.. Punk Buster is good.
cuz all the same people still cheat. PunkBuster is one of the most terrible cheat-protection programs available. It really only keep casual cheaters from cheating (which in RavenShield was hardly any of the cheaters).

i could careless about this whole cd stuff, once i get ut2k4 ill have no need to put a diffrent cd in the drive so it will just stay in there forever and wont collect dust, not even a spec!

Aye, punkbuster was a joke. I mean, a clientside download that checks you dir? How hard could it be for the cheaters to write a small app, that tells it to check a different directory that happens to have a clean install on it? Most third party cheat protections are an uphill battle. 's why I'm glad DrSin is on board now. He can just patch it in.

But he won't, you know.
A new cheat protection means an updated netcode, which means that everyone will have to get the new patch. The main reason they never fixed the cheat protection in UT2003 (which has been broken ages ago) was the netcode compatibility.

Do you still have the shards laying around somewhere? I wonder what it looks like now.

By the way, if you're willing to cough up money (and you still care about 2k3), you can send them back to Atari for replacement.

Ummm....2k3 broke network compatibility in two (2) different patches that I know of, aka they aren't afraid to do it.
