I don't understand the point of this at all and it is really funny that no one has said anything about the absurdity of this. PC gamers have been talking crap about gamepad controllers forever it seems like and how FPS games are superior on the PC because of the awesome keyboard and mouse use ... and PC gamers would always say they would never play a game with a controller. Now this comes out and its like NOT ONE PC person recalls saying such stupid things. Nope now its lets have a party on a PC using only gamepads. How this makes any sense I don't know. But if the point is to just be able to say "see it can be done" then yeah great congrats.

What exactly is so hard to understand? this is local multiplayer, Splitscreen, it doesen't really matter what you play it with, aslong as both you and your mate(s) use comparable input devices it will be a fair fight, the point here beeing that you are enjoying it with freinds, not that you are "out the pwn the serv0r lulz".

Ofcourse it is not ideal, the ideal would be having 2 PC's (or 4, obviously) connected over LAN, just as having two Xbox'es and two TV's playing against each other would be better than sharing a screen, but such things obviously cost money and take up space, so split screen is the economical solution for local multiplayer, and its better than nothing even if you have to use a less accurate input device to pull it off (having two mice connected to the same PC is.. its not good).

But that is the beuty of the PC, it's so bloody flexible, it can do anything your Xbawks can do and more, you can even turn it onto the all singing and dancing console experiance and play it splitscreen with controllers! anything you can do i can do better, i can do anything better than you, yes i can! yes i can, yes i can! yes i can, anything you can be i can be greater, sooner or later i'm greater than you! yes i am! yes i am... :p

You can on Linux (that option was implanted recently). Then again Epic still did not make the Linux Client, so I guess I try to make you happy with a dead cat...

I'll chime in on this, since we've already got Splitscreen vs LAN, PC vs 360, 360 vs PS3, so obviously we're all picking sides but I'm hard pressed to feel too partisan except for Linux. Consider your bandwagon joined :)

Ironically though this is probably how I'll be playing UT3 for some time to come, since although I haven't bought it myself for lack of a Linux client (it's a good game, but not good enough to convince me to boot into Windows, even all ideological/political reasons aside), but, and here's where I get on-topic here,

this is absolutely perfect for joking around in silly self-made levels!

My one friend has been fiddling with a simple level of his with little tricks, such as for example a slit in the floor that one can slide into if feigning death at the bottom of a staircase. Endless fun has been had flinging our poor playerpawn down those stairs trying to slide into that hole. Throw two players (or three! or four!) in being able to dick around like this all at once? Dear Lords of Kobol I can hardly imagine how much fun this'll be. And of course, since it's mostly simple BSP and light static mesh use the performance hit won't even come close to choking the Windows box.

An endless horizon of possibilities stretches outwards in front of us, my friends . . .

I'll bet the PS3 users just love seeing this...

Well most of therm are just exposed to whatever they're advertised to on TV. (not all of course) But the console community if you want to call them that are a pretty uninformed lot.
EPIC made a game before Gears of War? :rolleyes:

But yeah PC for the win. This is a pretty cool maybe useless to some feature.
I love the flexibility of PC, in general cool to see this.

Only PC game i've played with splitscreen is an old DOS game, Settlers 2- You had to use a special driver in order to have two mice working independently. :p

Is there some way to hack the configs on the ps3 version to give the ps3 users the splitscreen they begged for? :p

lordshoot2kill's Unreal Tournament 3 Split Screen Guide
http://pcsplitscreen.freehostia.com/Unreal.htm
Gives you everything you need to setup your Xbox360 controllers

Oh yeah you don't have to share the same monitor...You can also run it in vertical mode at a 2200 x 1024 resolution (two 17" monitors) and move it over 50/50 over the two screens.

Hah, considering the fact that you didn't need to do anything to be able to do that in the Amiga version, that makes me wonder why it's still not possible today on the PC.

Another case is gears of war. Another friend owns the PC game, but not the 360. The whole effort was done yet split screen disappeared.

Here the problem is simple - Gears of War splitscreen requires two LIVE profiles to be signed in locally. This is possible on Xbox 360 but not on Games For Windows LIVE client.

I tried enabling it, as it appears it's just done with a launch command. However, I get accessed none when it tries to add in the second player.

I tried this out for the day with my friend and it was pretty fun. We went through the CBP dm maps and it was a fun experience. Unfortunately, my aim on the mouse is 1000x better and I cant seem to get the right sensitivity for my logitech gamepad (dual action). Is there a way to get the joystick aim more natural?

I started the game, opened the console and typed:

open wargame_p?Name=Player?Team=255?listen?LoadSaveGame?SplitScreen

This should open the game to your last checkpoint in the campaign in split screen. However, you will notice in your logs, these two lines:

ScriptWarning: WarPC wargame_p.TheWorld.PersistentLevel.WarPC_1 (Function WarfareGame.WarPC.ClientSetCoopRichPresence:01A1) Accessed None 'GameSettings'
ScriptWarning: WarPC wargame_p.TheWorld.PersistentLevel.WarPC_1 (Function WarfareGame.WarPC.ClientSetCoopRichPresence:0267) Accessed None 'GameSettings'

Which tells me that it can't create the second "Presence".

For those wondering about sensitivity with gamepads, I found somethings for ye!

Code:
Bindings=(Name="GBA_TurnLeft_Gamepad",Command="Axis aTurn Speed=1.0 DeadZone=0.3")
Bindings=(Name="GBA_Look_Gamepad",Command="Axis aLookup Speed=.65 DeadZone=0.3")

Modify 1.0 to .65 in both instances of this code in the UI and you'll get a somewhat better outcome (at least on my logitech gamepad), but tweak it yourself if your not satisfied.
