Thought it was time to bring some life back into this thread.

Been playing a lot of Mario Kart 64 recently and got some inspiration from the "Rainbow Road" track. And I'm proud to present my next map, DM-Rainbownate

Looking neat Kantham. One point of criticism: I think it could look better/less 'oh look this is a game level and not an actual environment' if you toned down on the sandbags and made them integrated environment geometry, like closed balcony railings.

I agree with Sjosz, also the textures clash a bit too much with your lighting scheme. Otherwise it all looks pretty good.

looks nice Kantham. Though does anyone really play custom Gears maps anymore? I know for a while there were a few of us that organized custom map nights but did not last long. Or just doing this for fun and practice?

To be honest though I'd love to make more gears maps but I lost patience with the editor can't take crashes anymore.

Did play Gears on X360 (when the console actually worked, after my last RRoD, I was done with that console, decided not to go for a new one, and went with a PS3 ever since), but...it just didn't play too well with me. However, the PC version, it was okay, but...it was more of a port than a remake, imo, and Games for Windows was plumb annoying back in those days. At least UT3 changed all that, you didn't have that middleman annoying app in the middle of ya.

Thanks for the criticisms guys.

It's for my gears mod. I've done some improvements (after the gameplay video) with it and one of the new feature really makes the game interesting. It's a SP mod so it doesn't matter who plays anymore. All I know is that I still receive PM/mails from people who say they hope to see more and even donate (Though I'm not accepting them like Smokeringhalo obviously would). The download count is around 1k for each 3 files so I really believe in continuing the project. I also like to keep me in shape, I wish to find a job in the Industry.

I'd also encourage anyone who mapped for Gears to drop me a pm if they're interested.

To be honest though I'd love to make more gears maps but I lost patience with the editor can't take crashes anymore.

Yeah can't agree more, but I really got used to them. They will happen mostly when you toy too much in the generic browser, like opening 7+ packages is getting risky. Sometime it will crash from opening the static mesh viewer and so on. I make sure I have auto saves on and I do save very often, especially before building lights, it likes to crash there too.

Decided to try out some custom materials that I came up with in MS Paint of all things. Don't ask me why, just felt that I needed to try some tile patterns, and see if this may be something to consider for a real map later on:
