Trying to get Emulation driver working again after disabling for other reasons and it won't work. Deleted the devldr16.exe file a while back and have been told I may not need this if rebooting to DOS for sound in DOS games. I get an error message in DOS when normal booting like this:
error: SBIRQ conflict with PCI IRQ. Creative SB16 Emulation Driver not loading.

Also, get a long beep while rebooting. This would indicate an error I assume. UT works fine and so do other games. I'm just trying to get Duke3D running again. Here's my slot assignments and present assigned/available IRQ's (some IRQ don't change, I've also disabled COM ports):
AGP-ATI Rage Fury
PCI1-Voodoo2
PCI2-Promise UltraATA100 Controller
PCI3-SBLive!Value
PCI4-Ethernet card

IRQ's:
3-ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
3-32-bit PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
3-Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
4-ATI Rage Fury
5-Creative SB16 Emulation
9-SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus
10-ACPI IRQ ........
10-Win95-98 Promise Ultra 100 Controller
11-ACPI IRQ ........
11-Creative SBLive! Value

I have a P3-500, 256MB SDRAM PC100, 3 optical devices (Kenwood 72X CD-ROM, Sony CRX-100E CD-R/W, Toshiba 4.8X DVD-ROM) and 1 HD (WD 20GB 7200 rpm) all hooked up to main master controller, WD 20GB 5400 rpm hooked up all by itself to Promise controller, running WIN98SE on Gigabyte GA-6BXC motherboard. Also, using Razorboomslang mouse in USB port.

What the heck is SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus assigned to IRQ9? Also, why is it saying IRQ conflict when none show in my device manager and the DOS emulator has its own, not even any ACPI IRQ Holder ???

Also, the following assignments match in device manager and DOS SB assignment line in AUTOEXEC.BAT:
SB PORT - 220
MPU 401 PORT - 330
ADLIB PORT - 388
IRQ - 5
8-bit DMA - 1
16-bit DMA - 5

Besides reinstalling SB drivers, does anyone else have any ideas about what might be happening and ways to solve it?

hmmm, 7 appears to be free (unless if LPT is on it) while your network adaptor is conflicting with USB (USB doesn't like anything on the same IRQ)

usaully IRQ tables how i get them is

3/4 com ports
5 SBlive
9 network
10 USB
11 video

the ACPI's o nthe same IRQ (usaully IRQ holders) are teh PCI slot.
main ACPI is something very difficult ot get rid of, if its not in the bios to disable you may need to keep an eey out ofr people who have disabled it and explain how on the manufacturers forums

Thanks for the info. I tried enabling LPT interrupt in SB emulator driver in device manager and SBLive was then assigned to IRQ7, ethernet and USB back to IRQ11, IRQ3 is free, IRQ7 is LPT1 only, but emulator set to IRQ7 and not showing. Tried rebooting to DOS and it still doesn't even do it (screen goes blank and light blinks at me, so I have to reboot to windows).

Apparently, I either need to reinstall Win98SE or possibly get devldr16.exe back. Since I don't want to do either right now, then I'll just wait for Duke Nukem Forever. So much for DOS games. I disabled SBEmualtor and IRQ3 is still free; I guess I can turn on my COM's again, but I won't until I have to (I had both on the same IRQ in the BIOS before).

When I HAVE to reboot to DOS only at some point in the future, then I'll worry about this. But for now I'm moving on. Thank you.

One more question. Everything seems to be working fine with the ethernet and USB on IRQ11. The only thing on my USB is the RazorBoomslang mouse. Actually, they were kinda sharing the IRQ before when I had USB cable. You said that USB doesn't like to share. Does this configuration sound O.K.? It's either that or have my ATI Rage Fury share again. I wanted to give the Rage Fury its own IRQ (4), as well as the sound card (now on 5). Promise controller is on 10, SCI IRQ used by the ACPI bus is on 9.

Is it better, at least in my case, to have USB sharing with ethernet instead of ATI Rage Fury sharing with Promise controller?
