    6 Bullets - 4/10

Jean Claude Van Damme goes all serious from an acting perspective to try & prove that he can actually deliver a semi-serious role when he puts his mind to it but that doesn't stop him delivering his trusty roundhouse at any given opportunity.
Nothing incredible about the story though, he plays an ex-mercenary, specializing in tracking down kidnapped children and is subsequently hired by a MMA fighter to help find his daughter, after she is captured by a gang, specialising in smuggling children out of the country - you get the idea.

    Blow - 7/10

Nowhere near Goodfellas, but still a very entertaining drug film.

    Mr. Brooks - 7.5/10

I really enjoyed this one. The amount of killing was actually a lot smaller than I'd expect from a serial killer movie but it was still plenty suspenseful. Kevin Costner is an awesome actor.

Blow's a p good film. Like an American, Mr. Nice except he moves into Cocaine.

Movies I've seen lately that weren't terrible were, The Big I Am, London Boulevard, Sucker Punch, Moneyball, The Fighter, Big Fat Gypsy Gangster, Killer Elite, 22 Bullets & Bonded by Blood.

Movies I've seen lately I wouldn't inflict on anyone, Apollo 18, Rec, Rec 2, [It was a double bill] The Grown ups, Skyline & Battlefield Los Angeles.

So I found the simply awesome underground part of youtube that allows you to watch full length films. Surprised the copyright nazis didn't come out full force with this one.

Anyway I watched some Dario Argento classics Demons and Demons 2 and well....

    Demons - 6/10
    Demons 2 - 5/10

Both movies feature excellent practical effects, which is why I love 80's era and even earlier horror films. No crap CGI to take away from the experience. Problem is while the first movie was trying to be generally frightening, the 2nd movie came out looking like a clown show. Demons doing leaps over cars and damn near full somersaults. A full armada of body builders that acted as a sort of comic relief, the list goes on. Both movies are an average affair though.

Maybe I am spoiled by Lucio Fulci, but so far Argento has failed to impress me. Not going to cast judgement till I find more of his movies though.

    Primal Fear - 7/10

Good court room thriller starring a young Edward Norton. What didn't work for me was how predictable the ending was, but then I again I went into it knowing to expect a twist.

    Resident Evil: Retribution (3D)-6.5/10

Great visuals and action. Good 3D. However not as good overall as the last flick. I thought the story was weak and lacking in places.

This time Anderson instead of trying to make a video game into a movie seemed to be trying to make movie into a video game.

Mila; you are still hot. :D

    Sucker Punch-8/10

I didn't rate this movie as highly when I first saw it at the cinema but I enjoyed it more the second time around.

I still don't entirely get the story but it's one hell of a visually stunning flick.

As for the story: Who's fantasy is it anyway? ;)

    Reign of Fire-7.5/10

I never get tired of revisiting this film. In my opinion this is probably one of Matthew McConaughey's finest screen moments. Christian who?

    Green Lantern-7/10

I saw this when it first came out. I don't know the comics that well. It was entertaining enough the second time around.

    Setup-1/10

(C)rappers like No Cents shouldn't be allowed near film.

An ordinary Detroit gangland story that has a script that tried to be Tarantino.

A bunch of poor acting and a confused plot end up producing a film with no substance whatsoever.

    Worthless......

    Premium Rush - 8/10

Normally I'd laugh at giving a movie like this such a high rating. You know that feeling when you're watching a movie, and something epic or super exciting happens, and your brain just releases a surge of adrenaline that sends chills throughout your whole body? Well that happened to me multiple times throughout this movie, hence the high rating.

It's a non-stop adrenaline rush (no pun). Nothing super deep or anything but a movie doesn't need to be deep to be good. This was fun as hell.

I appreciate that none of the bike stunts were unrealistic.

    The Tall Man - 7/10

The legend of the tall man is told through this clever story that has some really surprising twists and turns.
This is a film that, on the surface, seems a little too weird and convoluted but stick with it because the ending is a real surprise.

    Eastern Promises-9/10

Cronenberg doing what he does best; turning a gloomy and depressing story into a gloomy and depressing film. Great acting and, unless the actors in this film are native Russian speaker, some of the best language coaching I have seen on the screen. Just as good the second time around.

    Thirteenth Floor-6/10

A little bit Tron,a little bit Matrix, a little bit Brainstorm and a little bit Inception. Interesting enough..........

Perhaps I've just been unlucky with the films I've seen that had Matthew McConaughey in them but describing something as one of his "finest screen moments" seems like very faint praise indeed.

I've never seen RoF, so please tell me you are describing a gruesome ending for the character and not his acting. Please? :)

It's a good story and it doesn't end well for some. ;)

Matthew McConaughey's character in RoF is nothing like you would expect from him; that's why I like it.

    Arbitrage - 5/10

Richard Gere really showing his age now but his personna seems exactly the same as it did in Primal Fear - pretty sure he's wearing the same suit.
In this film, he plays the role of a hedge fund magnate who runs into financial trouble with his business empire.
I was about to give up on the film after 15-20 minutes but then things started to get interesting, so I stuck with it but only just.

    Paranorman - 8/10

I genuinely really enjoyed this one and would like to have been able to rate it higher. It's another stop-motion film from the studio that produced Coraline, and comes with the same fantastically high production values. Some of the art and effects, especially towards the end of the film are stellar. The plot is quite strong and the film does change in tone quite dramatically as it progresses, with plentiful minor surprises. It doesn't quite score a nine, as unfortunately the plot is in some ways a little predictable and derivative in its direction.

Ultimately this is a good family film and comes highly recommended. Due to it's content, it may be a bit too scary for some younger children (it is about the undead, after all).

A modern day dragon movie before Dragon Wars came along. I caught it on SyFy a few years ago and was really surprised.

As for McConaughey's character I won't spoil much but if you hate the guy then the ending is worth it

    Dredd (3D) - 8/10

A far superior & grittier version of the Judge Dredd film Sly Stallone dumped on us back in 1995.
What I liked about this film was the way the Dredd character was portrayed by Karl Urban.
His laconic character is complimented by his utterly ruthless persona - just how a judge should be.
Even more surprising & refreshing, was the city environment that favours a more contemporary cityscape. It's still a vast sprawling metropolis but very grounded - not crazy like the new Total Recall stuff - quite refreshing.
    If you've seen the film
    The Raid Redemption
You know exactly what this film is about - it's almost identical in every way.
A real surprise but the 3D didn't do a lot for me - doesn't change the score though.
