I kind of like those sharp b&w pictures. It really makes detail stand out.

Das_Ben, does that first pic have a story to it? That second pic has a nice mix of light and shadow.

I'm working on a series of self-portraits in different locations, that is one of them. It was taken in an art museum, where I saw the red carpet and after some consideration on how to put it to good use, I decided to take a shot of my shoes. It did earn me some stares (and somebody took pictures of me taking pictures).

Lens with the camera was mounted on a tripod, then I tuned the focus via notebook, using LiveView and then did a series of shots - took me a good 50 shots to get a crisp shot as hot air from something kept blurring the image.

I also did some minimal processing - changed the color temp, so it would look more like I saw it, darkened it a bit to add contrast, cropped and downsized. Originally it looked like this:

edit: just saw your pic Lizard, its great. Its pretty amazing how much detail you can get with just a camera.
