What do you guys think of the Canon EOS 7D? I was thinking of picking one up as my first DSLR. People seem to complain that it's not "full frame." Is that going to make a huge diff? Surely it's a lot better than a cheapo Digital Rebel?

I was thinking of selling my newish 40D for a 7D.

I did some research and looked at alot of 40D pictures vs. 7D pictures, and like Igoy has said, they are exactly the same. The 7D just has a higher pixel count.

But if you know what you are doing, and have a decent enough lens, then a cheapo Rebel or 40D/50D will be the better buy until you become profiecent enough with that and then upgrade in a few years.

The inclusion of the 1080i video is a neat option, but remember, a DSLR is a CAMERA, not a camcorder. Everyone seems to forget this.

The newer XSi is a great camera that has a high pixle count and lots of options and I think full frame.

I love my 40D. I've almost had it for 9 months and I'm still learning it. I do need to get some new lenses, but the quality is amazing.

Unless you're going to be printing posters or wall sized pictures, I'd go with a smaller, cheaper camera.

Who knows, buying a 7D may not be your cup of tea and you might get bored of it after awhile. For this reason, and the ones I've stated, I'd go with a Rebel or similar camera.

but stick with Canon.

Might not be a camcorder but you can still do wonderful things with video on a DSLR. Case in point (not a Canon but a similar 24 fps video feature):

Also loving the 8 fps burst shooting of the 7d, not that I do a lot of action photography, but I can always start. :D

I'm the kind of person that would be sad that I didn't spend a few hundred more for a better camera, especially when I plan on buying an expensive camera to begin with.

If you were interested in expensive DSLR photography, you'd be pretty damn interested in those features. :p

Anyway yeah, fair enough. I'm happy with my Rebel Xsi (450D) for now. For a cheaper option than the 7D you might like the 500D which is basically the new upgraded 450D. You can spend your extra cash on lenses (because you will want to ;))

Having finished mowing the bloody lawn I noticed there were a few different butterflies about & grabbed the camera as it was such a nice afternoon light-wise.

I like taking photo's but I'm no photographer & was surprised how nice these turned out.

Not the most interesting of shots. I dug out the very first camera I ever owned. It shoots 110 film which is only 16mm so it's pretty lo-fi stuff, but that can be a good time. I have figured out that it's best for minimalistic shots as anything with a lot of detail looks like crap with it. Anyway, here is a shot from it. I plan on having more interesting ones later.
