It finally happened!

My first Camera Casualty.
One camera slipped out of my hands at home and hit the other camera on the grip. It was just 1 foot in the air! The XTI landed on the 20d directly on the LCD screen. XTI still works just dandy. You cant preview your shots or change any settings that aren't listed in the viewfinder. For now its like using a film camera. Shoot and pray your cameras light meter is correct.

Although It looks like the bunny is guilty, I have only myself to blame for this one.

The impact cracked the clear casing. Then the clear casing destroyed the LCD screen behind it. I will have to replace both.

A close up of the damage. It really is quite beautiful in a pixelized artistic way.

Canon wants $250 to repair the LCD screen on a $450 camera. The warranty was over long ago. I'll make the repairs my self for $100. Cameras are a lot like Computers. All parts can be swapped and replaced so long as you know what you are doing.

Damn, the same thing happened to a relative. Can't you order a replacement LCD from Asia or something ? If you know of a place, let me know because I'm interested.

I'm just going to purchase the LCD screen and the plastic cover.
LCD can be found here:

For the non hands on type.. they will do it for you:

I'm still looking around for the plastic cover. I hear its only $10 but I have yet to find a place that sells it.

LOL

No, its a good idea. An idea Canon should have though of in the first place. Perhaps their 1d series models have them. XTI is the cheapest of the DSLR models in its day. Cheaper parts are required to keep the price down.

Wow BBA, that one sort of reminds me of yin yan.

Hey Mike sorry for your loss, I have a similar story to tell but now is not the time :)

Oh go ahead and post it!
I plan on putting together a short tutorial on how to fix the problem. There doesn't seem to be any online instructions out there on how to repair the problem. I'll post a link here when I have completed it.
