Moving on?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

maja, you're a bit late. We have already found the guys who are responsible and have dealt with them in the most suitable manner. I think they've moved to BF2, where it's really hard to ban peeps from servers.

One problem is that I think they know how to change their IP's and get on INF anyway. We'll see if we can catch them doing this and immediatly report them to the admins.

There used to be some immature asswipe in the .cat clan awhile ago. He/she came to INF with a bad rep from UT, and only proved their bad rep time and time again.

Other than that, I hold no reservations towards any member of the INF community.

I'm shocked! Someone used my name with PR tags. I call this person a 'bad guy' and he should be spanked. Yeah, ooooooh yeah spank him

3 of them have been permanantly banned from GD servers. I asked Shan to do the same on his server, but he didn't even reply to my private message although he saw it. Because of that I even considered publishing logs and IP... I will not as I still hope he'll reply to my private message. It's hard to ban friends from servers... but not that hard.

I am 99% sure at least two of them are involved in what you mentionned.

Sad.

Shan and I went through and banned at least 7 people, Including, but not limited to, Pipe Dream, Ping, and Eternity.

We went through counting by tks, rather than who was offending. In some people's defense, and the defense of others, I would like to present some evidence against a member of dotcat...

If you read the filename, comming form his server, Ping believes this to be "Funny." The banning did not stop at offenders only.

IIRC, Ping did NOT intentionally blow up the mine. Their team spawned on it inside the cave. When their team blew up, everyone thought it was funny. He shouldn't be banned because he spawned on a mine.

Eternity was simply TKing them before he got TKed. While that is something I don't do (since it makes you look just as guilty) I don't really think that is a ban-worthy offense.

Please post the entire list of banned persons.

I'm not to sure what that would accomplish...

As for choosing who gets banned or not, I do not think the number of tk is enough. The intention is important too. In a case where one person was tkled in his spawn 4 times in a row by someone trying to piss him off, if this person tks the teamkiller before getting killed again, just to be able to play, I think this has to count in the decision to ban or not to ban.

I guess cracwhore would call that double standards, but meh.

WHY is this community so afraid to call people out publically? The threat of being ostracized by the INF community is a large deterrent to any would-be lamers. When we secretly ban them and don't tell the community, the lamer can continue their offenses on other servers or in other forms of harassment.

Furthermore, if people are banned wrongly (which I suspect Ping was) they need the opportunity to explain themselves. If they are secretly banned, then it is much harder to do that.

I guess cracwhore would call that double standards, but meh.
No, while the action was the same (Intentional TKing) the intent was radically different. One's was to harass, disrupt, and ruin the game, the other was basically self-defense.

I find myself agreeing with Keihas on this one, something that doesn't happen too often. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Teamkilling just for the hell of it and teamkilling in self defense are two completely different things. The same thing goes for unintentional teamkilling. Anyone who says they haven't killed a team mate unintenionally is lying.

If the evidence is clear (I wasn't present so I'm not the one to judge in this particular incident), why should people who are set on ruining the game for others be granted any sort of mercy? Just ban them and be rid of them. And then make sure they can't ruin anyone's (or your own) game elsewhere either.

As for Maja, I hope you decide to stay.

I'm not affraid. I just don't see what it would acheive. Anyway, I banned IP address of people that clearly use a lot of different names online, inlcuding yours...

But crosschecking with the forums I can tell you that from those I banned, one was identified as Pipe, another one as Mercie and the last one was not identified. That last person usually plays with "bot names".

I got the exact list of all nic they used and what offense they did. I don't mind posting that... but not the IPs. Not in public forums.

I understand that at some point server admins had a forum to discuss such things among themselves. That would be much more appropriate IMO.

Ah... I see what Geo's talking about. He won't release names because there's no point. They use the names of anyone, so saying (P^R)Keihas was banned, would make people think you were banned. But it was just the IP of the player playing as Keihas at that moment in time.

Not releasing the IPs, well... I guess he doesn't want some crazy INF hackers to go launching DDoS attacks or something against that person's IP or ISP. Best way to permanently disable lame people would be through account based authentication.
