One thing on the USB refresh rate: it is a well known fact that a person sees about 30 fps (or pictures per second). This may, in some cases, not seem as a fluid motion but might be jerky.
Whatever the case I do not believe that anything above 125Hz (= 125 fps) makes any difference to the human eye under any circumstances... and whatever the eye can't see the hand can't touch (remember that your monitors go up to 85 Hz refresh rate tops).
BTW the mouse movement calculation algorithms may need many more pix/sec to evaluate the movement the hand has made and this is probably so that it can work on many types of surfaces.

PS: I remember the mice the Sun Workstations use to have back in the 80's with a laser and this special mirror-like mousepad /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif.

Uhh... <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica">quote:</font><HR>(remember that your monitors go up to 85 Hz refresh rate tops).<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm sorry?

My monitor does 160Mhz@640x480, 120Hz@800x600, 100Hz@1024x768, 99Hz@1154x862 (or whatever), 90ishHz@1280x1024, 85Hz@1600x1200.

And I know I can tell a difference between 75Hz and 100hz on a monitor. I may not be able to see a frame rate difference between 60 and 80 (though I believe you can see the difference when turning the view), but frequency, I certainly can.

What you've likened (Hz) to Frame rate would basically make us blind. If we could not see differencees in frequencies greater than 125Hz, we couldnt tell colors apart, much less see the colors. I don't remember what frequency certain colors of light are, but I KNOW they are over a few Gigahertz. As for the frequency separation of the colors, I'd be willing to bet that you'd be able to tell the difference between two colors if they were only 100Hz off.

UMMMMMMMMMMMM while I may have been out of school for a long time and it has been a while since I was a puter tech, How can you relate Hz to being the same or as you put it 125Hz (125=Fps). They are two totally different aspects. While one may have a bearing on the other they are not related. And Rooster is right about the frequency of colors with pure white being the highest freq. the naked eye can see.And pertaining to your statement:

One thing on the USB refresh rate: it is a well known fact that a person sees about 30 fps (or pictures per second). This may, in some cases, not seem as a fluid motion but might be jerky.

If 30 frames is jerky and 60 is smooth I for one can tell the difference between them (30 jerky, 60 smooth).

Also most newer monitors do refresh at a higher rate then 85Hz.

Please Don`t get me wrong I am not trying to FLAME you if you know something this dumb old timer doesn`t please enlighten me. I will be the first to admit I was wrong.
