Screw anti cheat. No need for it with less than a dozen people who suck anyway.

Smartctf is awesome. Doesn't hat do auto team balance or is that another mod? Gives cookies or something base don various factors and balances team (or gives an option to bslance) based on those scores.

Fast cap is one I used to enjoy. Records ctf capture times. Shows record per map when capped. I always tried to set those records lol.

As for maps, I could be wrong on a name or two but these are a few I loved playing UTEO back in the day:

AlexiasPlayhouse
Almost
Lights_OUT

There are a few more. Don't remember names off top of my head. Think I have some old old screen shots that may indicate names.

Rip, again I want to let you know I really appreciate you hosting a server for us and putting in any amount of work to make it feel like home (lol)

Hey, Thanks Sparky. :) But it's my pleasure. I only started it and went to the trouble in the first place for myself and Osk to have a place, I had no expectation things would come to this! And this is the first time I've really put time into it since then, so it's overdue. Sorry about the SmartCTF for now, but I will come back to it (and the cheat protection), and look for some other cool mutators like that as well. By the way, just added those maps you listed. :)

The competitor in me has always loved stats and being able to show you're on top of something. That's what Smartctf and fast cap did for me. No effect on the game but plenty on my ego and drive to be faster. These days km just curious how close I could come to my former glory.

Alright one more map I can't remember the name of.

Two oversized castle type buildings. Bridge connecting the two with amother bridge/platform in the middle. Water under the bridges. Two side doors to each building. One went directly in kn the right and one went to the middle platform over water. A tunnel went up where you would be in the roof of building. A portal was up there which would bring you right into the flag room. What map is this?

What's the map that's all blueish walls, the flag is on a platform above a super deep pit? Not huge but not tiny. Walls go up go second level which is just one long open hall on either side.
possium???

That's all I care to type on my phone about that lol

I've played that recently so I think it is or was on the list.

All right, skins are up. :) You'll need to have them yourself first. There's a zip with almost all of them at the bottom of Dagger's page here: http://mistrealm.com/UT/UTInstall.html

Every one but the Ratamahaterwhatever bunch is on the server, it didn't like those any more than I liked typing them. ;-)

Oh man, remembering Burgerwars and the house one made me lol. I used to love AtomicIslands. Why don't I have Conquest hmmm. Can't remember Powerslave except the name.

The images of many more maps I loved are coming back to me, but I have no idea about their names. I'm looking through a list of almost all the maps ever made for UT, and hopefully they and others catch my eye as I scroll past.....

Another fun waste of time. Check out what the wayback machine internet archive saved from provinggrounds. For example, I found this writeup of sparky losing to darkwench 1v1:

Date: February 20, 2002 Challenger: {╫tз}╨╦хFз■хоkе
Ladder: Unreal Tournament Excessive DM 1vs1 Defender: {DarkWench}PM$
At Stake: Rung #17 Demos: 6.31 MB

{╫tз}╨╦хFз■хоkе vs. {DarkWench}PM$ Now that's some spam!
We in the press of this great nation have a sacred duty, a sacred obligation. That is, to report selectively, to distort and bias under cover of proclaimed "objectivity" to ensure that liberal causes and complete airheads like Al Gore are taken seriously while conservative politicians/causes are identified clearly as the spawn of Satan. Oh wait. This piece is for PG, not NBC, and that was far too honest to be part of the mainstream press anyway. Let's try that again...

Our obligation at PG, as part of the non-mainstream press of this great nation is equally simple: to make time with hot chicks wherever we find them. Let's not kid ourselves, shall we? If Shepard Smith of Fox News has half a clue, he's thanking God every day that he gets to work with the yummy Jane Skinner. In the same way, I am grateful that I share office space with DarkWench. Now, I know what you're thinking: this is gonna be just some puff piece written by yet another jerk trying to make time with some gal. Ok, you got me on that one. But let's try to set that aside, shall we? DarkWench is more than just a PG colleague; she's also a serious UT player in her own right. Once you get past the tight, leather corset you find... lace?! Oh my. Well, let's see here... Hold still, will ya, DW?! Sheesh. I need to investigate further--solely for professional reasons you understand. Anyway, once you get past the lace you find the warm, smooth, sensuous surface of... of... a minigun?!?! Nobody brings Freud into this. Nobody. Clear?

In all seriousness, {DarkWench}PM$ or {DW} recently faced a tough battle for rung seventeen from challenger {╫tз}╨╦хFз■хоkе--that's {XTS}DeafSparky or {DS} for those of you who don't read gibberish--on the PG Excessive Overkill 1v1 DM ladder. Now, I know some of you will object to Excessive Overkill (EO) because it's a "n00b sp4m m0d" or something similarly "clever", and to those persons I say this: get a grip. Sure, EO is all about spam, but what is UT without spam? Spam is good for you! It's an excellent food substitute and has been shown to reduce cuticle problems when mixed with Palmolive. How can you possibly object to spam? Besides, it's just plain fun, and that's what really counts.

Game one began on Viridian Dreams with {DW} taking the initial lead, drawing first blood. {DS} clearly wasn't fazed at all by this, however, as he quickly whipped out the sniper rifle and gave a sign of things to come, blowing {DW}'s head from her shoulders far too easily. Throughout the remainder of the first period, the lead wavered back and forth, {DW} preferring the minigun and occasional shock kill and {DS} sticking primarily with the sniper rifle and rockets. Every time {DW} would start to catch up, {DS} would put steel on target and widen the gap. The headshots were actually pretty painful to watch.

In roughly the middle of the second period and continuing into the third, {DS} began to widen his lead, taking {DW}'s head off again and again. Things were looking pretty glum for {DW}, though she did manage to own the armor more often than not and catch {DS} in a couple of well-implemented ambushes. The spam began to fly even more furiously as the final minutes ticked away, as seen in the action shot for this game. When all was said and done, however, {DS} managed to best our staffer, winning with relative ease 42 - 34.

{╫tз}╨╦хFз■хоkе vs. {DarkWench}PM$ {DarkWench}PM$ shows {XTS}DeafSparky he isn't the only one who knows how to use a sniper rifle.
Thus the second game opened on Deck16][ with {DW} needing a win just to stay in the match. Nevertheless, it was {DS} this time who took the quick lead by drawing first blood, again with the sniper rifle. Despite the troubling start, however, {DW} fought back hard, bringing the minigun to bear as her (obviously) preferred weapon. With some devastating minigun fire and a few tasty flak barrages, {DW} managed to take the lead back, finishing the first period up by two, 8 - 6.

{DS} wasn't giving up so easily, though, as he started using large volleys of rockets down the hallways, minigun fire in the tight spaces, and his (obviously) preferred weapon, the sniper rifle, at a distance. But this time it wasn't spam that ruled the day. Both {DW} and {DS} were going for the more precise kills provided by the minigun and sniper rifle respectively. And this time it was {DW} who began to pull ahead through the second period, ultimately closing it out with a 17 - 11 lead. Fortunately for {DW}, {DS} just couldn't pull his game together in the final minutes, which allowed {DW} to take the second game--also with relative ease--by 32 - 23.

{╫tз}╨╦хFз■хоkе vs. {DarkWench}PM$ She doesn't just frag well; she looks real good doing it.
And so another PG match went to tiebreaker, this time on the relatively new 1on1-Sweetnothings, an interesting map with some custom-coded visuals and text. {DW} broke the opening silence with her first blood announcement, but {DS} came back quickly to nullify her early lead. Throughout the first period, it was clearly anybody's game; neither player could hold a lead for more than a few moments. All the while, {DW} made far better use of the armor while {DS} made far better use of EO's lack of self-damage to rocket-propel himself to the upper regions of the map for some nice ambushes.

The battle continued through the first period and on into the second without any decisive lead forming. Again, {DW} chose to stick largely with the minigun, taking {DS} down with harsh fire up close and personal while {DS} continued to demonstrate his estimable skill with the sniper rifle. Still, it seemed that {DW}'s attention to the armor was helping her stay alive a bit longer than her opponent, which might explain her being up by a few frags at the end of the second period. Nevertheless, the game remained close--a real squeaker, in fact--right down to the end when {DW} took the game by three, winning it 18 - 15.

This was the first match I've viewed on the EO ladders, but I hope it isn't the last. The hyper-charged weapons, greater health and ammunition, lack of self-damage and so many other factors make EO a true blast--no pun intended--to play and watch. In this case, {DW} carried the day, but I'm sure {DS} will be back for a rematch before too long. GGs all!

Now, DarkWench, about your phone number...

nVs vs FBI - 1/8/2003
MÆST, Rip, and Osk, you guys were all in on this match.

The Unreal Tournament Excessive community is small to say the least. But that doesn’t matter when it comes to playing fast paced, thrilling matches. This last weekend as the NFL divisional playoffs drew nearer we find two teams facing each other down on the battlefield. They were not out to win Super Bowl rings or cash prizes, they just wanted to defend or take the other teams rung and have fun doing it. Flag Bandits Incorporated, a veteran clan on the ladder would face off against the newly arrived nVs. Flag Bandits Incorporated have proven themselves several times on the ladder in the past, would they be able to do it once again when they faced up against nVs. Who would be left standing when it was over? Only time would tell as the match started.

The match would start out with nVs' map pick; Das Bolwerk would be the first map to be played. Anyone that has ever played this map knows that it is a fast paced map that does not allow for anyone to get slack in his or her defense. Now just imagine, playing this map Excessive style, you can almost feel the tremendous amount of pressure the defense would be under. As the map began, both teams sent out their offense in search of that first and most important score as their defense prepared to defend their flag. nVs was the first to put pressure on and force FBI to concentrate more on their own flag. FBI would for the remainder of the map keep three players on defense to defend their flag and have only one flag runner. Their defensive primary weapon of choice was the shock rifle, covering their flag with massive shock combos. FBI. Oskeno was the primary flag runner. As he went into nVs' base he would face down with -nVs-Rip and Dr_Funk every time as he attempted to take their flag.

FBI.Oskeno, knowing that nVs had only two players on defense, used that to his advantage as he quickly used his rocket launcher to propel himself across the map to grab and return the flag for three quick scores. Each time he would have -nVs-Rip and Dr_Funk on his toes, chasing him down, and trying to prevent him from scoring. But his rocket jumps were too accurate and too quick for the two nVs players. On several of those flag chases the nVs defensive players would attempt to grab their opponents' flag so they could prevent them from scoring and perhaps score themselves. But with the defense that FBI had waiting it was extremely difficult for them to get to safety. On one flag run for nVs, -nVs-Dro was being chased by several of his opponents when he nearly fell into the lava on the back side of his base. Using quick thinking and fast reflexes, he was able to propel himself out of the lava and back up to safety using his rocket launcher and the walls. But all that work wouldn’t pay off for him, waiting up top was FBI and they quickly dispatched -nVs-Dro and took back their flag. At the end of twenty minutes, FBI’s three-man defense would pay off as they secured the win with 6 flag caps to nVs' 2.

Flag Bandits Incorporated vs. nVs Two nVs players stand guard over their flag and punished anyone that came into their base. The next map to be played was FBI’s choice: Accelerator. This map has many routes a flag carrier can take. However, each route is dangerous (going down narrow hallways, going over small, long platforms with death beneath them, or being shot out of a tube across the map). With a few quick roster changes and a decision to play this map 5v5, both teams got ready to defend their flags. Just after the map started, both teams put their defenses up. Once again nVs decided to go with a two-man defense and FBI went with a three-man defense. But since nVs had more players on offense they were once again able to strike first and penetrate their opponents' base. But with such a hard defense to overcome they were not able to take the first score away. That job was left up to FBI.Oskeno. As FBI.Oskeno attempted to flee with the flag right out the front entrance he was met by -nVs-Rip who was able to cut him off. This move forced FBI.Oskeno to backtrack and take a different route down one of the long hallways. He ran down the hallway backwards so he was able to propel himself with the rocket launcher and make his trip that much quicker. He was able to score with ease once he got back to his base because the defense had pushed out any unwanted opponents.

FBI.Oskeno quickly went back to nVs base to attempt another flag run. This time he didn't even try to go out the front entrance. He chose to stick to the hallways. He reached his base without much trouble. However, this time his defense was under a complete frontal attack and his flag was already taken. That forced these two teams into a standoff for several minutes as they battled to get their flags back. In the end though, both teams lost their opponents' flag and no one was able to score. As the match continued the flags went back and forth and the defense on both sides struggled to keep their flag in their home base. At one point Dr_Funk used his translocator to get himself half way across the map to cut off an FBI player that just happened to have his flag. Both teams fought hard to maintain control of their base, but FBI’s defense once again proved too powerful for nVs. FBI would go on to win the map and the match with a score of 6 to 3.

Both teams fought extremely well. The main factor in the outcome of the match in my opinion was the defense. FBI used more players to defend their base, which made it very difficult for nVs to get the flag and return it back to their base. I have a newfound respect for the Excessive community after watching this match. It was extremely fast paced and very hard to keep up with. It was a great games, guys. I certainly hope to see these two teams going at it again in the future.

I remember being involved in a match that DW did the aftermath on. Not sure if it was 1v1 or a clan match. I can't find it. I remember it being her first.

Some fun for 1v1 maps?

CTF-Ace of Space
CTF-Romera

1v1 is always good.

Rahuah, when I went onto the web archive of the PG forums for EO, I saw you made a thread titled HoV in Saugus Mass.? - The archive doesn't have the threads available (possibly required login?) so I can't view the content. I was curious, are you from that area? I am, I know Retorq is from that area, and juicyfrys was obsessed with the Red Sox (though I think he was from Washington state)
